The memes on the Commies are going to be brilliant. Amazing that they must have paid companies so much money to do this rebrand and nobody thought about this.

I did think they should have shortened the name to just the Reds 10 years ago or so when it already clear the Redskins name was untenable. 

 

Have a logo of a red bird and a helmet design of:

and the pressure would have moved to other teams. 

 

That said, the ship sailed on that approach, but something like the Redhogs would have been a unique name with a link to the glory days. 

 

Commanders sounds just awful. Even when it seemed to be the frontrunner a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't see they would actually choose it. However, I think its worth giving it a couple of years to bed in. There are some bad names in the major leagues, but once they become part of the language they just fit. (I'm already getting used to the Los Angeles Chargers), so might not seem as bad down the line...
