, a decent manager wouldn't have tried to just sit back and not concede like he's done.

Him playing that way has kept us from getting battered and ensured goal difference and confidence remain intact. We have been a c*nt hair away from picking up better results from playing conservatively and you wouldn't have complained then.

People forget that while we put in spirited performances against Arsenal, Chelsea (which we comfortably lost) and Everton at the beginning of the season we were still 'plucky underdogs'. There was no way Hammond and King would sustain that level of performance over the course of the season.

Things had to change because our midfield couldn't control possession like they did last season. Drinkwater in particular has not made the step up.

If he keeps us up it's a definite stay for me, because it'll have meant over a quarter of a season we've played very well and there's hope that he's finally sussed the division. If we go down - 10-12 games, see where we are from there: would be madness to chop a successful championship manager as punishment for this season - the words nose, spite, face come to mind.

Very true, good post

IF he keeps us up I would want to see some proper investment going into the playing side of the club.

None of this failing to land (realistic) targets.. We would want to identify targets, pay the going rate and get them.

I remain of the opinion that both the club and many fans grossly underestimated the Premiership. The weekly grind of having to be fully on your game at all times.

We haven't had enough quality. We would need a top quality left back, a really good centre back, and a quality creative central midfielder player, along with some steel in that area to really kick us on.

Weighing things up, I wouldn't want to simply survive to just have another season like this one has been. What's the point really?

I'd keep him and give him all the backing he needs to assemble a squad fully equipped to do better.

However, if we go down I'd change Pearson. I think a fresh approach would then be wise. Not that Nigel wouldn't be ok again in the Championship. ..I think he would. But I'd want to see us doing things a little differently. I detest this bloody long ball game thing. The first half against West Brom was dire, it really was. I'd like a fresh approach and to design a way of playing that could probably see us well if we came back up again.

In the unlikely event of us escaping relegation let's no forget the dark days we endured for most of this season. Yes he got us out of League 1 and promoted us to the EPL but the owners, although they are not really football savvy, must realise that for this Club to get to the next level a change in manager is essential.

I know some will want to bestow on NP the 'Freedom of the City' should we stay up and all will be forgotten but mediocrity will reign if he is kept in charge. It is time for change and change for once will be for the better.

And none of the managers that people suggest could possibly be regarded as capable of taking us to the 'next level'

Just out of interest what would you consider the next level to be? Not being sarcastic by the way

I disagree personally Col. I think it's unfair on Pearson and the team he has assembled to suggest we're a hoof ball team. We played some of the best football I've seen supporting Leicester last season and sometimes this season we've looked a good attacking threat.

Sometimes needs must though and getting the ball out and reshaping is necessary

Keep regardless of division. Not too sure how people want a sacking even if we stay up. As I have said earlier you can't compartmentalise a season to suit your argument, if we stay up then we have achieved our goals for the season. We had a tough run earlier in the season, but it doesn't matter when you get the points as long as you get them.

How could you want him sacked if he keeps us up? lol

I can understand it if we go down, though I still wouldn't want it, but sacking a manager who has taken us from League 1 to the Premier League and accomplished the objective of staying up :nigel:

Just playing Devil Advocate and saying look no further than Nigel Adkins and Southampton (Yes, he was sacked before the end of the season but it was likely he'd keep them up anyway).

That's the frustration mate..no we aren't a hoofball team. So why play that way? I recall when we had that awful run under Pearson a couple of seasons back (when we played Wood up top and Kane our wide). We played hoofball then too.

A Nigel Pearson side has always looked better when we've played quick football, on the deck.

Keep regardless.

Despite what some people say, Pearson is a manager who learns incredibly well. What he doesn't do, however, is learn quickly. If we stay up, I think he'll have a productive summer and we'll be a lot more comfortable next year.

At the end of the day, it wont make a scrap of difference what we may think. It's down to the owners, and they are likely to keep him, more's the pity.

I know, but why a poll about pearson every 10 seconds

True, but then we have the many examples where sacking the manager hasn't worked. Plus there are no decent managers out there too.

So up until the last 3 games i've been losing patience with Pearson, he's been frustrating me with his stupid selections and set-up, ok the selections havn't changed all the much, but set-ups have dramatically, before the last 3 games we've been setting up not to lose as opposed to going for it, giving it a go, attacking the opposition.

Finally at Tottenham that changed, we still lost but atleast we tried to win the game instead of simply trying not to lose the game.

I have never got to the point of wanting him sacked, i've been in the position when I wasn't bothered if he got sacked but not actually been able to say I wanted him gone, when I was of the opinion that we were already down (Which part of me still say's it going to happen, but we do have alot more hope now!) I said he should be given the first 10 - 15 matches of next season in the Championship, however if we're struggling and we don't hit the ground running, without hesitation he'd have to go. That goes for if we stay up, however if we stay up he'll have to prove that he's learnt from this season and we'll have to improve the players massively over the summer.

I have been as critical as anyone this season but one thing keeps me thinking Pearson is the man for us.. It's the way the players keep busting a gut for him. Whatever faults he has that team just won't give up. Maybe some tactics haven't worked, maybe the players just aren't good enough at times, but they keep going.. Pearson keeps going. The desire is still there on and off the pitch to keep this club where it belongs. For that reason I say stay whatever division we are in

Really love the love after 2 results when so many were slagging the few down that thought we could do this.

Also those that thought Nige was the man to bring us back up.

Can you add a 50% 75% 95% fickle fans to the vote.

Really would like to know what some on here smoke (but can you just tell me what it is when ur up?)

Imo teams revert to hoofball when they are low on confidence and both periods that we have done ut under Pearson reflect that

Pearson the man for me took us with record points and he has built the current squad it was never going to be easy in the premiership but he is learning quick.

He'll be here next season. I'm not exactly sure that's what I want but I couldn't give you a name of who we should turn to if he goes.
