Leicester City v Southampton Post Match Thread 2 - 0

Another good performance again today, managed to control the game against a normally good Southampton side. First half we were excellent both attacking and defending, Mahrez scored two beauty goals both came from Vardy. Second Half we decided to look to frustrate Southampton by keeping possession in which we did well. Our defence managed to closed down any threat Southampton threw at us, Huth had a cracking game and deserved the man of the match from me. That back three is like a stone wall.

Don't want to be a pedant but we were 33/67 for the second half possession. Not sure keeping the ball was our strength today! Their pass and move was excellent. They were a bit like villa under lambert but with more penetration final third. However, a long way short of Chelsea as they lacked the individuals with real capability once they reached our box.

not sure we would have coped too well had they nicked one early in the second half or towards the end of the first. However, we didn't and another clean sheet to put on the mantelpiece. Up to double figures in wins!

The thing is though we didn't allow them to do anything with the ball.  We were 2-0 up, all season Southampton have been good at keeping possession of the football - they are a skillful side.  We were like:  Have the ball but go play with it over there.  Kasper made one save.

Goals win football matches, not possession stats.

What we lacked attacking today the defence certainly made up for it!!

i can't wait to see what high quality signings we make in the summer, and cambiasso proves quality really does shine and make a difference.

Not sure what your point is? I agree with what you just posted but was querying the bit earlier where you said we kept possession well second half to frustrate them. Clearly, we didn't keep possession well second half but we did frustrate them. anyway, tactically decent today, especially out wide.

Possession doesn't really matter with our set up. Defend fairly deep, force them to cross balls onto Huth's head all day. Lots of room to counter quickly with Vardy, Mahrez, Schlupp etc.

Wasn't our best performance today but giving ourselves a 2 goal lead early brings so much confidence, we can then control things and play at our own pace. I think the team was a bit tired towards the end after a heavy run but they coped really well with the added pressure of the Sunderland result. Defensively we were great, the three centre backs gave so little away, looked rather open down the sides but Southampton, who looked a neat side, rarely got in behind us to cause trouble and Schmeichel dealt with the long range efforts.

Two more matches to go, two big displays needed and we can enjoy a survival in our first season. Great to have a points as well as goal difference gap and the table looks fairly healthy this evening. Good work all round.

First goal came from Ulloa. He headed it to Mahrez from a Wasilewski throw in.

Completely agree ALZ - been saying all season that we shouldn't lose hope in Pearson! Stunning performance today!

Bloody amazing! Just goes to show what sticking with a manager and side in tough times does, you build character and absolutely smash it when in form!

We have the best team spirit and most fight in the PL - forget about Dyche's championship merry men.

I'm sad about Jaymo's injury - wish you the best, Matty, but Kingy and Drinks can get us through the last two.

Feel confident we can win up at Sunderland and seal the deal!! :scarf:

Thought we were magnificent defensively today. Got an early lead and then just completely nullified them tactically. Defence was absolutely immense!

Also that first half from Mane was just embarrassing. Got to be worse than even Sterling for throwing himself to the floor lol

What we did very well after allowing them to do it in the first ten minutes was keep Bertnand and Clyne quiet. This did mean playing basically 5-3-2 and as a result, some of our attacking play was a little blunt.

Not as expansive a performance as in recent weeks but a very mature one. We basically played within ourselves after going 2 up early on. That back 3 has done so well, especially Huth who was immense today. I still think we might not have lost to Chelsea if Huth had not gone off injured.

Just got home and what a performance by the lads!

Seeing how the players react to a win every time the final whistle goes is a credit to their attitude to keep this club in this league, Cambiasson again proving what a class player he his never letting anyone's heads drop even if they make a mistake a proper leader and Huth well we all know the difference he has made!

Can't be prouder of the way the team are playing, and fair play to Southampton fans in the pub after they gave us the credit we deserved!

Didn't even realised Burnley were relegated until 5 minutes ago, one spot filled and I'm certain we won't be in one of the others!

Come on you Foxes!!

Woy was in the crowd today? Maybe to cast an eye over Vardy as well as the other England lot?

I'm not suggesting he'd get anywhere near the Euro squad but we've only got a couple of pub teams in slovenia and san marino in the quals after Ireland away.

the two former are no more than conference standard. Vards would run riot

Not true as they would have two games to play.

Anyone who thinks this is done and dusted should think again. We were good in the first half and did enough in the second. It was a professional performance and just what was needed after Sunderland's win. Great goal from Mahrez and we worked hard. But next week will be much tougher and a lot more physical. We've given ourselves a great chance but that is all we've done and it could still go wrong.

Spurs are dire and I can see Hull winning there. There is a possibility though that QPR could beat Newcastle. We just need to win our last two games at the moment and not hope other sides do us a favour.

You've got to take your hats of to Nike, back in the 80's I doubt hardly any top flight footballers wore their boots, this pic speaks volumes.

Marketing, sponsor deals, quality, colour whatever it is, it's working.

World Cup 2010 I think it was, almost all the USA team had the half orange, grey mercurials on, biggest stage to show the world.
