"Genuinely horrific 90% of the time" is absolute rubbish.

Mr Consistent in his first couple of seasons at the club, steady decline since but that's to be expected with age. Always tried though.

Good servant to the club, definitely one of Svens better signings.

Good servant to the club in his time here, I'll always remember my reaction to the pre season photos where he had hair...scenes!

Hopefully he finds an MLS/A League team for the next couple of seasons.

To have had the career he has had you can't knock him.

I just felt he was exposed a lot this season. To get someone across to help him out would leave gaps elsewhere and you can't let that happen at this level.

Good solid player but no longer up to the Premier League.

Has never done anything particularly special but that's not what he was ever in the team for, did his job well and was fairly consistent. He was at fault with his poor distribution at times but he was very solid at his primary job which was to defend in the no nonsense way in which he did

His redeeming quality for being a mostly horrifically limited footballer was that he was solid, he's not even good defensively anymore.

Seems inevitable he will be released now. Good servant to the club and we got our money's worth out of him. He was fine in the Championship but did get found out big time at this level. Nonetheless he's been a model pro for us and we should be thanking him for his role in getting us to where we are now. He does not deserve a sour departure! Solid enough defender but time to part ways now.

Besides, we'll always have: - "Konchesky, that'll do it! A cracker from Konchesky!"

In his first two seasons he was very consistent, played a decent part in the promotion season but has looked out of his depth for the majority of this season. However, especially given the money thrown around at the time, his signing was good value.

Seems like a great bloke as well. Time to move on but certainly wasn't a waste of money.

That Villa game. Need I say more?

One bad game hardly defines his career here.

What about the Villa game that he scored in?

One of Sven's 'better' signings. But for the wages he's on, it's about time he went. Thanks for the Championship seasons Paul, I think you'd be honest and say you're not good enough for the Premier League anymore.

Best of luck anyway.

No it doesn't. But everything that could have gone wrong for him did go wrong. Simple things he messed up like the back pass at west ham etc. He's not technically or physically what we want now. Championship was his level and he's been found out at PL level. 35, thank you and move on. I'll take a player with Champions League experience or Schlupp over him any day of the week.

So much unjust criticism to a solid performer. He has made mistakes but who hasn't? when we played 442 we looked better defensively we him in the team, and the few times he has dropped in at CB he has looked fine. Yes I agree we need to move forward but some people need to look back at some of signings over the last ten years and say is he really that bad? the answer is no by the way!

Good Luck Paul (if you do get released) and if you don't then I am sure that you will do a job for us if called upon.

Fairly steady performer. A few mistakes, a few stinkers but if you averaged out his match ratings over the last 4 years you'd probably come out with 6.5/7 out of 10.

Came in on big money but without the big money attitude which is something that can be said for him. Not the brightest and a couple of unsavoury moments (swearing at the fans at Millwall) but overall a good servant to the club.

Kudos to Nigel for, once again, knowing when to phase out a player who has served him well (if he does go). We need to step up to the next level and saying 'thank you and goodbye' to the likes of Konchesky and Nugent is part of that.

I know he's not gone, but we have two players better for his position.

All this said, he has been a good servant to the club, and would have no issue with him getting a one year contract, as a squad player on vastly reduced wages, if that's not what he wants, good luck to him, let him move on.

Some of you lads need to cut him some slack. It's quite sad the amount of disrespect he gets on this forum and twitter. He's won the Championship with us and contributed his part this season for us to maintain Premiership football. I'd like another year on his contract and have him act as cover for injuries. Good post on Konchesky for a change.

This^^^^

Apart from renewing his contract.

Now we have Fuchs and Schlupp competing in that position Konchesky won't earn his place in the squad. He'll almost certainly be released unless Schlupp is off to Arsenal.

He had about two consistent seasons, for the last two or three he has been a liability.

Just not true.

We need better, that much is true, and during our slump he was poor, making a number of costly mistakes. But he was excellent last season, and surprised everyone this year with his early season form. Check the match threads if you can be bothered, even the miserable gets on there acknowledged his performances.

I'm glad we are improving, but the hysteria and revisionism about his decline is ridiculous. As the OP says: thanks Paul, you've been a great servant to the club.

It bugs me the shit Konch gets. Ok, not a prem player but he gave 100% in ever game - never sulked nor moaned just got on with things. Show me a single defender that doesn't make a single mistake in a game. There are some idiots on here who berate him. He played when there was no one better in that position. OK Geoff has a played a more wing back role this season but when Geoff played left back to start with he had howlers. If you go Konch, good luck for the future and thanks for all your hard work.

A bit crass to wish him well? lol

I wish him well even if he gets offered another year contract here you donut lol

Think he will be gone though to be fair

And when he does go I will wish him well, creating a thread saying good bye when he is still one of our players and could play a part next season is a pretty crass.

Not aimed at you directly just the thread in general.

Been a good enough player for us. Had a good career too, played for a few big clubs as well as England of course.
