So did he say this -

New Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has said Esteban Cambiasso will be club captain - if he signs on for next season.

Currently the Argentine midfielder has not yet put pen to paper on a new deal after playing a key role in the 'Great Escape' of 2014/15 and earning the club's Player of the Year award.

Speaking at his first conference since taking the reins, Ranieri pledged to put the armband around Cambiasso should he sign.

Reporters were also told the club was "hopeful" Cambiasso would return, although the veteran player was "well sought after".

He mentioned Cambiasso being a team leader, think his words have been misunderstood.

What's his nationality got to do with anything?

What do you think it has to do with it?

He has been learning/speaking English for 10 years so I think that is a poor excuse.

I'm sorry, what? How do you know he has been learning / speaking English for 10 years? He might use it occasionally, but his jobs have been in Italy and France since he left Chelsea. It's not an excuse, it's basic common sense... something people on here clearly lack judging by the reaction.

Like I said its important to not get carried away thinking we will be playing for Europe etc this year but 1 point isn't really an improvement is it.

I hate to break it to you, but yes it is.

For the money spent in this club already this season does it justify 1 point?

The club want to stay up, that will be their focus. We've hardly spent a lot this summer so far, certainly not enough to expect a massive jump in the league.

I take it should we get to one point more than last season's total we aren't going to just stop and lose every remaining game for the sake of it.

Given the changes I'd take survival this year but do want us to push on in the long term.

What's his nationality got to do with what he says in an interview? Just cause he is a foreign manager doesn't mean he doesn't have to answer questions correctly.

How do I know? Well he got sacked from Chelsea 11 years ago? It's been quoted that his English wasn't great during his time at Chelsea and he was learning then, his English is a lot better than what it used to be and once again has been quoted in number out news outlets that it has improved so unless he has had a bang on the head and suddenly picked up the language I'm guessing he has probably been learning it?

Yes 1 point is clearly more than last year but over a whole season is it really an improvement!? Not really especially with how poor we was for large parts of the season.

Yes we would like to remain a premier league club and like I have said before you just copy and quite certain posts from here we can't get carried away thinking that with 1 premier league behind us we should now be challenging for Europe BUT as mentioned in other posts I don't think it raises much expectancy for next season from a fans prospective.

We have already spent in the region of 10mil so far and been linked with 3/4 new players with CR stating he would like to sign 2/3 more players so I'm sure we will be in the region of around 20 mil this summer, like I said isn't very ambitious for the money spent.

So you would prefer him to say we are going for top 10 when it isn't realistic, to make you feel better?

Agreed

Furthermore, 1 point more 'really' is an improvement, not much granted but, an improvement nonetheless, as for expecting more from a 20m outlay (speculated), seriously?

I am hoping for a slight points improvement, (5 or 6 more) but to hopefully be safe 3 or 4 weeks prior to the last game, a decent cup run wouldn't go amiss either, delusional to expect european football at this stage (unless fair play) and to see how Wigan struggled with it the other season, not sure it's in our best interests for now until we are much more established

Not really, just something more ambitious than 1 point.

He's just saying he's trying to improve year on year - the big bucks roll in if we stay up this season.

Try not to take his comments too literally buddy.

This will also help me not smash my laptop up if I read any more of you continually posting the same end of the stick.

Speaking on the clubs diverse outreaching of merchandise Ranieri said: 'I like the fact we have fans in Thailand, I think our store is the best in the world, however we need more hats with club logos on'

he can't win with some people, they've already made up their mind. I for one am glad he's being completely realistic and isn't looking to upset the team.

I agree with this.

He wants to add quality to help us improve, no need to add players for the sake of it. I think that the majority of us wanted this. No?

Not really, just something more ambitious than 1 point.

Just think, if we improved by 1 point every season for the next 40 years we might be champions of England.

Why say this? Not a great message to the current players is it? Surely Huth is a more long term option anyway

He didn't say anything of the sort!

Hang on - I don't think he's said anything other than he's a leader?

I see your point, but i think our players realize that, for a team like Leicester in this stage of their development, players like Cambiasso don't come around very  often....

Very much liked Ranieri's interview today.

He again mooted the 'consistency' thing.

And also said the first half of last season was different to the latter part. 'Which is the real Leicester'? He asked.

And then said something about it being the team that finished the season.

I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. It seems he's not going to change it up very much.

He also was articulate and media-friendly.

Agree with this.... i remember from his time at Chelsea, he was a very likeable person... He's perfect for the Thais....

I like him, think he spoke well and made some points we can all be glad of.

More importantly though, when do we get to see the rest with question for Wheelan and Rudkin etc?

Has he ever played fast countering football, which brought us our unprecedented success?

Or is tactical, containing, possession football more his thing? The players certainly aren't suited to that.

Sure, he's targeting a more even season, but everyone was long before Pearson was sacked anyway, other than that it seemed mostly filler & waffle as opposed to anything incisive.

Hopefully with his open mind to keeping Shakey & Walsh, then our style shouldn't change including the focus on sports science & marginal gains
