Crazy Stat Time!

We may be eighth best in xG

but we are sixth worst in xG against.

In 16 matches, we have exceeded opponents' xG only four times (and equaled Brighton).

The scary bit: five mediocre-to-poor opponents we beat exceeded our xGs in those matches: Watford, Brentford, Palace, Norwich and Wolves.

We're doing a decent job of creating good chances (and have quality up front to finish some low-percentage chances) ... but we're giving up a ghastly number of them.

(Opta figures as reported by fivethirtyeight)

From an article about Salah on the beeb, but I didn't even realise this was a record Vardy had.

Goal contributions

I'm pretty sure it runs along with his scoring 11 games in a row record. Scored for 11 games, assist for Mahrez against Swansea in game 12, scored v Chelsea in game 13 and assist for Okazaki against Everton in game 14.

Another totally made up record to placate Liverpool fans, just like when James Milner broke the record for assists in a Champions League season and Thiago broke the record for pointless sideways passes in one half.

Consecutive games with a goal or assist. You know, the record you didn't know Vardy had until Salah broke it.

Literally didn’t even know this until yesterday, media certainly didn’t report it. But when Salah eclipses it we’ll be hearing about it for weeks on end.

So predictable ……if he doesn’t make it then I expect he will have managed to do his shoelaces up the most times in sixteen games which will earn him an award ……

I expect liverpool fans are preparing for the news that VVD has the largest viral load of any player with covid ……another award on its way …..

Well according to the Liverpool Echo it's.................... Astonishing*

Mohamed Salah equals astonishing Premier League record after Liverpool goal

Mohamed Salah has now equalled Jamie Vardy's record of consecutive goals/assists

Quote

astonishing
adjective
extremely surprising or impressive; amazing.

Well it certainly surprised Leicester City and most other football fans

It's a nothing record that Vardy probably had no idea about himself nor cares about.

Goals in so many games in a row yes; adding in a stat where you could play a two yard pass for someone to run 50 yards to score (like Beckham to Owen in the 98 World Cup) or kneeing it unintentionally into the path of a team mate to slot home doesn't count for anything.

See mahrez Assist for cancelo goal today as an example of assist being pretty pointless without context to actually doing something that made the goal/chance possible

Just did the quiz on the PL site...

Jamie Vardy is one of just three players who have scored over 100 PL goals but never on Boxing Day. Who are the other two?

Who can name the other two?

(time for him to break that curse anyway...)

I did the quiz too so won't answer, but was surprised by which two it was.

Pure guess, if its surprising...

Alan Shearer and Didier Drogba?

Nope.

There were choices on the quiz, but they give away the answer if you know you're premier league 100 club trivia.
