Some people take a very "rock paper scissors" attitude to football and sometimes sport in general where if one knows what their opponent is going to do then the magic counter formula is really not that hard to come up with. Doesn't work like that.

Exactly we have been playing this way for almost a year now, some teams we have already played more than once and beat them more than once... when you have genuine quality in your team no matter how you know that team plays it becomes very difficult to stop.
AKCJ Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 I don't buy this. If teams don't know how we're going to play before they play us the managers are not doing their jobs properly. Nor me. It's not like our system is difficult to stop, it's just that we play a relentless attacking style that some just find too hot to handle. The day will come when our strikers don't finish our chances and our defenders will give away more opportunities that will be taken by the opposition, that's inevitable. The secret is making sure that doesn't happen from our perspective because I'm sure Premier League managers can work us out.

I'm also confident that CR will know a bit more about the opposition next time round.

At the halfway stage, Ranieri is going to flip reverse it and go 532 and play as an ultra defensive possession team Inler becoming the fulcrum of play and we just pass teams to death and score long range screamers, just to show everyone that he can.

We need Stoke to beat Man City and and nip a point off spurs again. We need West Ham to beat Arsenal and Man City again. We need West Brom to beat Arsenal again. It would be great if all of these big teams keep draw with themselves as well like tonight with Arsenal and Man City. And everyone else to nick points wherever they can. It's not in our hands. We can't win a drag race with any of the big 4.

Of course not, but the principals have been the same, making the small changes is always necessary. But the style remains in place

I'd like to see him open the second half of the season by saying "We want to replicate the first half of the season in the second half. We want 40 more points." Discreet yet ambitious. Humble yet confident. Claudio is all about Diplomacy. He'll say either "yes" or "no" then laugh then say something vague like "We want to go to Europe" even if his ambitions are much higher.

Ranieri himself said it's good for the fans to dream as long as the players and him keep their heads. What's wrong with enjoying the moment? I've supported Leicester for ages and we have never been in this position. If enjoying where we are right now which is the best position we have ever been in the prem and dreaming is embarrassing to you then so be it. But I'm just going to carry on believing/dreaming and thinking what if???? And even if it all goes wrong then that's what everybody expected anyway so no shame in that either. Oh and Merry Christmas As fans it's our right to dream, it's what footy fans do/should do, otherwise what is the point of supporting a team. However, what if doesn't go tits up, what if we continue in this rich vain of form and we win the league, take a top 4 finish or Europa, then I've not let negativity or fear of failure taint the ride for me. Either way I'm going to enjoy it, I think I predicted about a 9th or 10th place finish this season with us hopefully stearing clear of any involvement in a relegation scrap.

Still it makes great entertainment while we are keeping up with the pace setters the longer it goes on the better. Ironically, we've been more consistent than any team so far. I think the lack of pressure and superb focus and determination in every single game has shown that we can keep this up, injuries and transfers permitting.
4everfox Posted 21 December 2015 Posted 21 December 2015 Since the Premier League began only 13 teams have cracked the top four: Manchester United 22 times Arsenal 20 times Chelsea 14 times Liverpool 13 times Manchester City 5 times Newcastle United 5 times Leeds United 3 times Blackburn Rovers 3 times Tottenham Hotspur 2 times Aston Villa 2 times Everton 1 time Norwich City 1 time Nottingham Forest 1 time If we make it onto that list it will make ourselves only the 7th club since 2005 to crack the top four. If we somehow get into the top four then the summer transfer window will be the most important transfer window in our history. We need to somehow fend off the sharks who will surely be circling us and trying to pick off our prized assets. We must also make sure we get the signings right. We will only need 3 or 4 Kante-esque signings. If we get it right we could become one of the big boys in this league for the foreseeable future, but if we get it wrong we could become another Newcastle or (god forbid) Leeds.

Claudio rightly pointed out its ok for fans to dream - using the word dream because these are things that are usually unexpected / unlikely to happen. Yes, OK dreams sometime happen, but the concern I would have with getting too caught up in this "can we win the title business" is what happens if we suffer a few unexpected results - which will happen. It's not inconceivable that we lose our next 3 - Liverpool are not going to just give us the points at Anfield on Boxing Day, as ropey as Manchester City have looked, they still have a mass of talent in their side able to get a result and then the Bournemouth game is no gimme especially after the excursions of the two games before it. We then have a Spurs double in a the cup and league - again, not easy. Furthermore, even if we came through the Christmas / New Year test with creditable results, there's the Man City and Arsenal double header in February to get past. If,and its a BIG IF, we got to this stage and still look in a good position then I may be ready to take the dream a little more seriously... but for now, it is but a dream and still a long way from reality.

I'm not so convinced... A few defeats and all this euphoria could turn into something more horrible and become a weight around the teams neck. For example, if we finished 7th this season and then started off with a disappointing start next season - couldn't you see the daggers starting to come out?

For the record, I really am expecting top 4. Lots of relatively sound reasoning for that, but it boils down to 'we keep wining and other teams keep slipping up'. I don't expect the title, but it is a faint possibility for the first time since I was born. We are more likely to miss Europe altogether than win the title, but I'd rather spend my time dreaming of the latter than dreaming of saying I told you so.

Thracian Posted 22 December 2015 Posted 22 December 2015 How many people thought Bournemouth were guaranteed to be relegated when they were losing every week and had the injuries? 3 wins in a row and now everyone thinks they will stay up. Newcastle the same. Football can change very very quickly. Please do not get your hopes up. If we're not going to have the highest hopes when we're five points clear at the top of The Premiership we're going to be a pretty hopeless set of fans. People talk about how many games or points will be needed but I know this .... every team in league needs points more than we do. Pressure? Compared to this time last season we're in footballing heaven. We've just about arrived at the next transfer window, have every opportunity to strengthen our squad from a position that ought to attract most anyone who's available and we're hardly short of readies. Whoever thought we'd beat Chelsea and Everton in successive games? And who else in The Premiership is likely to get six points from those two now? And it wasn't just the six points. It was six points and two fewer games left to play and left to slip up. More pressure on the chasing pack. All that matters now is Liverpool away. All our closest rivals will be thinking "They could lose at Anfield. Big test". But if we win at Anfield it means another game where the chasers could fall further off the pace. So, given that we've got the points and others have to make them up, I'd say the real pressure's everywhere else. All we've got to do is keep playing the kind of football we've been playing so far and perhaps even better. Hell we've only had the ball about 35/40% of the time as it is. If that's not giving our opponents a chance I don't know what is. If somehow we can get the ball a bit more often that's less chance others will have to spoil our day and momentum. So for me it's all pluses. We've done the hard job of climbing top and creating a gap. Now it's all in our own hands Why would we suddenly doubt ourselves now?
