What a total shit heap of a signing this has been.

Another one signed with 3 at the back in mind?

I suppose that by PL standards Inler and Benalouane aren't especially expensive 'shit heaps of signings', but it's hard to argue that our foray into the world of signing experienced Serie A players has been anything other than a failure. To be shipped out after a smattering of appearances, fourth in the pecking order behind a 35 year old who we paid nothing for way back in the second tier, and with nothing more than a few eyebrow-raising tweets to remember you by... Hopefully he does something in the future to begin to justify his fee.

Blame it on the manager. Wasn't Benalouane a Ranieri signing?

Besides, he's impressed me quite a bit in his most recent appearances. I think we haven't seen the best of Benny yet.

Apart from that, Amartey is an able centre-back. So we shouldn't go overboard with hypothetical 3-at-the-back scenarios.

This is always the approach: blame it on the manager.

Blackburn took the same attitude when they sacked Henning Berg.

They didn't blame it on the sunshine. They didn't blame it on the moonlight. They blamed it on the Bergie.

After being linked with Dragovic and assuming we get him or another marquee CB then next season I could see

Morgan & Dragovic as our first choice

Huth first reserve

Maybe Was offered another one year deal as he seems fit and is not a depreciating asset and we have Amartey as emergency cover who I suspect will be mainly a defensive MF.

Benalouane to be cashed in on.

Darn you - now I've got that track stuck in my head on long-time rotation! :D

I've thought he's looked steady when he's played CB for us this season.

He wasn't so hot on the right, but generally speaking seemed to do his job in the centre on the few occasions he was needed. Always looked a risk in terms of giving away free kicks in dangerous positions. As it stands, the signing hasn't been much of a success, but I suppose you never know. The same, of course, goes for Inler, Kramaric and, arguably, Lawrence. I still hold out a bit of hope for Lawrence.

Bit harsh. I think Benny is a decent player, proved it in his cup games too.

He's not played and cost upwards of £6m... I'm not sure how it's not a shit heap of a signing.

He's ok as a player the little I've seen him, but he doesn't even get on the bench ahead of a 35 year old.

This is what happens when you sign 'squad players'.

No it's what happens when you sign people no better than your current squad players. If he was better than Wasyl, there wouldn't be an issue... but he can't even play ahead of him.

Not sure what you're basing that on.

My guess is that he's struggled to settle into England. He's been fine in the Cup games.

I'm basing it on the fact Wasyl is more often in the squad than Benny is.

People moan when we don't sign players to give us strength in depth, then moan when we do but they don't get game time due to no major disciplinary or injury problems in the said position. From what little we have seen I think he could have held his own but I was not aware we had major defensive frailties that needed sorting out presently with either Huth or Morgan being dropped.
