Eastwellfox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Bit of sour grapes i think. We wouldnt be in the position we are by playing the long ball. We played some neat football last night.
davieG Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 We are to some extent I think it's more a case of mixing it up. I think it's inevitable that against the more accomplished passing teams we'll hoof more as I'm also sure the more successful we are we'll integrate players that are more able whilst hopefully retaining the pace.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 We can play flicky dicky and long ball, either way, we won the game and we're joint top, evidently our tactics work better than his
ozleicester Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 did he describe us a 2nd in the facking league!
Vicki Vixen Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 This season has showed that you don't simply win games by dominating possession. There are a number of football purists who refuse to accept this and plead ignorance to the way football is changing. LVG is one example, Pochettino another. They come out with these statements that they cannot understand how they didn't win since they controlled the game, dominated possession etc. The people stuck in this mindset are the same people who think longer passing is something to look down on. On the contrary, longer passing is what turns defence into attack in an instant and is a critical part of our game and our success.
KFS Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Always got a lot to say this **** hasn't he? Would be so delightful to dump them out of the cup!

Great post, because we are not playing "their" way it's confusing them and somehow not the right way, sour grapes I reckon. The media, experts and pundits will go into meltdown if we do manage to finish top 4.
filbertway Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 So what are you all getting mardy about? If long ball football is good for us then there is no problem with him stating the truth.
dylanlegend Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Oh no.... Not long ball.... Quick give the 3 points back to Spurs!!
ScouseFox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 So what are you all getting mardy about? If long ball football is good for us then there is no problem with him stating the truth. cos like quite a few other bitter managers fans an pressers he's trying to use it as a stick to beat us with. "oh how on earth can a team who play LONG PASSES!!!! beat my glorious young english passing pressing geniuses, it's just not fair, they kick it further than us and score more goals than us and have more points than us but our centre back pass completion is 10% higher, what do we win"
Finnegan Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 If be didn't play such a silly high line against one of the fastest teams in the league then we wouldn't play so many long balls. Ain't rocket science.

AKCJ Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Don't care what povertychino wants to bleat on about. We won fair and square.

On the contrary, longer passing is what turns defence into attack in an instant and is a critical part of our game and our success. The thing is we've been playing the purists game all season, apart from the last few games. Good football is quick, attacking football. Passing it to death is a modern thing in England. It's annoying to hear people like Higginbotham talking about us as if we've been playing as we did last night for the last year. We were playing far too many long balls last night and we know we can play much better than that. But it says a lot about Pochettino and Tottenham that they lost and couldn't create much against us. He probably needs to look at his own tactics.
katieakita Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Must have been having to stop crying then give an interview to the media. Spurs in fairness play some lovely football for me 2nd behind Arsenal in the league for that and have assembled a very talented squad that has cost a considerable amount of money over a considerable amount of time. For all their possession they created probably less clear cut chances than us. Kane 1 on 1 and the guy getting in front of Fuchs and then some shots from distance that Kasper would expect to stop, we had a Vardy scrambled effort deflected over the bar by Kane's chin and the ping pong episode when we had about 3 attempts blocked and the DD shot from outside the box which was an excellent save, then the goal. Think a know a bit about the game I can remember there being only 2pts for a win but as far as I am aware the victor has always been decided by the team that scores the most goals and have never been aware of any results being based on the amount of possession or the completed passes by the back 4, sadly some footy fans cannot grasp this but they will, boxing fans understand it. Probably one of the most famous fights in boxing was the rumble in the jungle, anybody who follows boxing knows the greatest sportsman of all time won it never heard anybody argue he didn't because big George had won every round up to the knockout.
cc_star Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 According to Opta stats in FFT's 'Stat Zone' app (can't embed screenshot from mobile) We are pretty long ball but we know we're capable of quick attacking 3rd passes too Amazingly Drinkwater & Kante only passed to each other twice
ealingfox Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 There's a difference between playing long balls and being a hoofball outfit. Absolutely no way you could describe us as hoofball, though you can hardly argue we don't do a lot of long balls.

Would rather my midfielders play a forward pass that comes off 60% of the time than a sideways/backwards pass that reaches its target 90% of the time.
Fox92 Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 We don't retain the ball, nobody can deny that, but there is a difference between just smashing it route one and playing long direct passes. I do get frustrated with Kasper though, he should roll the ball out instead of just aimlessly kicking it to our small forwards. With the likes of Drinkwater and Kante we have the quality to keep the ball.

Pretty sure I heard Drinky tease Kante yesterday telling him to go play with pogs or something...
foxfanazer Posted 14 January 2016 Posted 14 January 2016 Can see us winning the League but then all these pioneers of the beautiful game like Spurs and Arsenal appealing to the FA to have our title stripped because of the way we play
