rmahrez Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 So, if you were to pick an England team now for the Euros, what would it be? Who would you put in the squad? Think it would be interesting to gauge some opinions currently with only a few months left now. Currently, this would be my squad: GK: Hart, Butland, Foster DF: Stones, Smalling, Cahill, Dann, Clyne, Walker, Bertrand, Baines MF: Alli, Drinkwater, Barkley, Henderson, Dier, Sterling, Walcott, Delph FW: Vardy, Kane, Sturridge (if fit), Rooney And my starting 11: --------------Hart----------------- Clyne-Stones-Smalling-Baines -----Henderson-Alli-Delph----- ------Sterling-Vardy-Kane------ Squad is a tough one, leaving out guys like Cresswell, Shaw, Oxlade Chamberlain, Shelvey, Jagielka, Welbeck etc. Think a counter-attacking 4-3-3 would be our best option, with Alli possibly playing in front of two more defensive midfielders. Drinkwater would definitely get in the squad, not sure about first team yet though.
StanSP Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Given their injury records, Welbeck, Shaw and Sturridge shouldn't go if they've not played a considerable amount between now and summer. I doubt Drinkwater will go as much as we all want him too. Hodgson will face way too much criticism considering there are players ahead of him purely on reputation than form. I bet Carrick gets picked. I wouldn't take Delph either.
Ross-Kemp Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 The form English team at the minute surely would be: Butland Clyne / Simpson Smalling Dann Bertrand / Cresswell Sterling Drinkwater Alli Albrighton Vardy Stroke face
Bert Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 How can you pick a squad now with Sturridge in it? GK: Hart, Butland, Ruddy DF: Clyne, Jones, Baines, Bertrand, Smalling, Cahill, Stones, Jagielka. MF: Sterling, Walcott, Milner, Henderson, Alli, Barkley, Dier, Carrick ST: Vardy, Kane, Rooney. As much as we'd love to see Drinkwater I just cannot see it happenin. Them three strikers are surely nailed on.
whoareyaaa Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 GK: Hart, Butland, Foster DF: Stones, Smalling, Cahill, Dann, Clyne, Walker, Simpson, Baines MF: Alli, Drinkwater, Barkley, Henderson, Lallana, Sterling, Walcott, Wilshere, Oxlade if sturridge or Wellbeck not fit. FW: Vardy, Kane, Sturridge or Wellbeck (if fit), Rooney
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 I'd rather top mesen than watch that prat Baines
AKCJ Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Hart Walker Smalling Cahill Bertrand Henderson Ali Barkley Sterling Kane Vardy
Stadt Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Butland Clyne Smalling Stones Cresswell Walcott Alli Dier Sterling Vardy Kane Probably shit defensively but lord the pace
Fox92 Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Butland Clyne Smalling Stones Cresswell Walcott Alli Dier Sterling Vardy Kane Probably shit defensively but lord the pace Which is why anything like that your team won't happen. Hodgson is defensive-minded and under him we're sideways and boring. One up front. Can't see us going anywhere in the competition.
Stadt Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Which is why anything like that your team won't happen. Hodgson is defensive-minded and under him we're sideways and boring. One up front. Can't see us going anywhere in the competition. Not having that, yeah we're pretty boring but we're probably the 4th best side there. Germany, Spain and France are the sides better everyone else we have no reason to fear.
Leicesterpool Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Why Rooney deserves to go I don't know?, but sadly he'll be there.
AyewJoking Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 How can you pick a squad now with Sturridge in it? GK: Hart, Butland, Ruddy DF: Clyne, Jones, Baines, Bertrand, Smalling, Cahill, Stones, Jagielka. MF: Sterling, Walcott, Milner, Henderson, Alli, Barkley, Dier, Carrick ST: Vardy, Kane, Rooney. Buzzell Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 I don't care who goes aslong as Vardy's on the plane and starts up top.
theessexfox Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Hart Clyne Stones Smalling Bertrand Alli Dier Wilshere Sterling Kane Rooney Will probably be who he starts with. Unless Andros Townsend and Danny Welbeck score a goal a piece, in which case theyŕe shoe ins.
Jimothy Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Do we have to pick 3 goalies? Seems daft to me. Yeah, I'm 99% sure it's a rule.
Bryn Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Hart, Forster, Butland Clyne, Walker, Bertrand, Cresswell, Smalling, Shawcross, Stones, Dann Alli, Dier, Drinkwater, Barkley, Henderson, Sterling, Walcott, Lallana, Milner Vardy, Kane, Rooney Think those are probably the most deserving players + Rooney if he keeps his form up. I'd genuinely play a counter attacking 4-4-2 and just go to **** other teams up.
Ozwin Posted 25 January 2016 Posted 25 January 2016 Might as well take a young up and coming English GK cos the third choice isn't getting anywhere near the first team.
maynefox Posted 25 January 2016 Posted 25 January 2016 ------------------ Hart --------- -------------------Walker, Smalling, Stones, Baines, ----- --------- Henderson, Wilshere, --------------Walcott , Alli , Sterling, -------- ----------------- Kane, --------------------- 4-2-3-1 formation
AyewJoking Posted 25 January 2016 Posted 25 January 2016 we've got a decent young team when you think about it. might stick a fiver on us winning this.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 25 January 2016 Posted 25 January 2016 If everyone is fit my squad right now would be... GK: Hart, Butland, Foster DEF: Clyne, Smalling, Stones, Cahill, Baines, Jagielka, Shaw MID: Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barkley, Wilshere, Henderson, Alli, Milner, Lallana, Walcott ATT: Kane, Vardy, Rooney, Sturridge Starting line up... GK - Hart RB - Clyne CB - Stones CB - Smalling LB - Baines CDM - Wilshere CDM - Henderson CAM - Barkley RW - Lallana LW - Sterling CF - Kane
Benguin Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 Vardy should 100% go Drinkwater should go but I can't see it happening given that reputation is a bigger prerequisite over form. There's an argument for Albrighton as well but not going to happen. Obviously Rooney will get in but it's extremely undeserving. I think Kane and Vardy up front should be the starting strike force but of course Vardy has to prove he can play up front by playing as a sub in the wing apparently
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 If it were me, I'd consider something along the lines of; Hart (has the experience) Smalling - Dier - Stones (Dier allows for a change of shape) Clyne - Cresswell (wing backs) Sterling - Henderson - Barkley (midfield 3) Vardy - Kane Naturally my guidance and instruction would be key to this formation being world beating.
Richard Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 I reckon it'll be something like Hart Clyne Smalling Cahil Baines Henderson Alli Walcott Rooney Sterling Kane All in all I don't think that's a bad team, probably capable of the quarter finals which is about as much as we can expect. The right wing is an issue unless Walcott/Ox find some form. Vardy to be used last 30 against tired defences in place of Kane. I reckon Dier, Lallana, Barkley, Walker, Stones, Shelvey, Delph will all be on the fringes maybe Sturridge, Welbeck, Shaw, Wilshere will get a chance if they can get fit.
daddylonglegs Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 Form team:Butland Clyne Shawcross Stones (when he's not being a moron) Creswell Drinkwater Alli Dier Deeney Kane Vardy Team big Woy will pick Hart Walker Trippier Cahill Rose Alli Mason Dier Carroll Rooney Kane
