Babylon Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Okay but my point is still valid. All we are really spending more than last year (when we paid quite a lot for Krameric for example) is the extra that we should recoup from finishing higher than we budgeted for. If we did only budget for 4th bottom (assumed the sensible option) then a top 4 finish still gets you about £30 million more, even on the old prize money figures. I'm not arguing against your point, just the figures. The club have to plan long term though, players don't sign one year contracts, they sign four year contracts. So yes, fee wise we may only spend the extra that comes in. But when you add in signing on fees, agents fees, and then wages over the course of the contract the £30m extra you spent can become £50m extra. I trust the club, I think they have proved they are doing things carefully now. But I will still question amounts etc, I think it's healthy for fans to continue to do that... as sometimes people do lose the plot chasing dreams.
DB11 Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 I'm sure one or two people can actually remember him from the champions league and world cup but let's be honest, most people are just excited about the fact he's rapid on fifa. Yeah but if he signs his stats will be decreased cos he's at LCFC

I was just pointing out that it's the extra income that we are getting above that we have budgeted for that we are spending (over that of last season). Last season we still had to pay wages and fees for multi year contracts for example. I view a deal as a whole, all fees included. But even if you do that I'm pretty sure that we have not yet come anywhere near spending the extra prize money between finishing 4th bottom (our assumed budget) and finishing in the top 4.

Until we get the next accounts it's hard to say where we are financially... if someone like Vardy was on £40k a week before he even started to score goals, we could have a whole raft of people on huge amounts. Will be interesting to see... for all we know we were already over budget. The extra £30m could be more like £15m for example if we're already running at a loss... unlikely, but who knows.

GaelicFox Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 20/30/40m Doesn't matter , All that matters is , can he score and will he score at the Nou Camp next season
deep blue Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Only going from the description of the type of player he is (and his goals v Argentina), but he looks our type of player. Good for the long term, but also a possibility of making a contribution in our run-in. Wants to come to us too. What's not to like? A huge fee, admittedly, but as long as our owners are happy to sanction it, and our recruitment staff & Ranieri are happy that he's the right player for us, then we should trust their judgement. He looks a more complete solution for us than any of the others mooted. As an aside, I've just read an article where Ulloah reckons that Vardy is too fast for our other forwards to keep up with when he breaks. Looks like this signing could solve that problem.

foxes21 Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 His pace makes him an asset, hopefully he has the work rate to assist with our high pressing game. But is anyone a little worried he might be too lightweight?

You also have to bare in mind that the vast majority of our players would be on for HUGE bonuses if we finish anywhere near the top 4, much more than they got last year for staying up. I dread to think how much we are going to have to fork out to some of our players if we actually do win the league this season. I'd hazard a guess that it would be in the tens of millions.

I remember reading that CR is not bonused on Champions league qualification therefore the entire squad might not be contractually bonused on winning the league due to it being deemed so unlikely.
EGBFitness Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Gotta admit I want this guy more than any of the other strikers we've been linked with. His and Vardys pace will be frightening!

Surely if the owners want to sling a bonus to the players for whatever reason (or promise them one based on finish etc), they are free to do so whenever they please, regardless of what the Premier League say. Just like you and I could get one next week if our respective bosses deemed it appropriate.

Been told the only bonus is for staying up or winning a cup. We have no bonus for a league win or Europe through a league position. No one at the club seen us finishing that high up this season.
