Carl the Llama Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Where are all our forum experts watching these Russian league games from? Sounds like a lot of people have been following that league very closely and definitely aren't basing their opinions on a video game or a quick glance down a stats table.
Fox 4 Life Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Lot of money and not a very good scoring record Vardy didn't have a very good scoring record until this season. Raw pace is a nightmare for prem league defenders as we have shown, he could be ideal!

Finnegan Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 The Champions League? I'm sure one or two people can actually remember him from the champions league and world cup but let's be honest, most people are just excited about the fact he's rapid on fifa.
Carl the Llama Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 The Champions League? So what, a couple of games against Man Utd?
Max Power Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 So what, a couple of games against Man Utd? Yes that's the only time he's played in the competition of course. How many games do you need to form an opinion?

Steven Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 We should be concerned how the club spend their money, too many bad value buys and over inflated contracts will eventually see us relegated. Just like in any business you have to squeeze every bit of value out of your money if you crave success. Like Derby? £6 million Bradley Johnson; £5 million Kante. Value is not directly linked to price but to what one gets for that price.
Max Power Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Like Derby? £6 million Bradley Johnson; £5 million Kante. Value is not directly linked to price but to what one gets for that price. £30m spent so far for Derby. They'll be in trouble if they don't go up.
Carl the Llama Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Yes that's the only time he's played in the competition of course. How many games do you need to form an opinion? I'm sure you're very CL keen and don't miss a single football match ever and you can explain to me in fine detail exactly how this guy plays, what kind of goals he tends to score and what his attitude is like in the dressing room because you've been following his career since he was 16, I was just expressing my surprise that there are so many guys as informed as you on here.

I haven't given any thoughts on the player other than he's fast. Just find the attitude that every opinion on a player who doesn't player in the Premier League is formed from FIFA or Football Manager a poor one.
J.Lisemore Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 £30m spent so far for Derby. They'll be in trouble if they don't go up. And I bet their still not labelled 'big-spending Derby'

Just find the attitude that every opinion on a player who doesn't player in the Premier League is formed from FIFA or Football Manager a poor one. I wouldn't have suggested it if he was playing in Spain, Germany, France etc. where I'd expect a fair few of our members to be quite well informed about the league, but Russia? Come on now, you must know that FIFA/FM stats are why most people are excited about him. Anyway, back to the pointless newspaper speculation.
goose2010 Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 People need to trust in the club, the money next year is insane! this quote really sums it up It also means that all 20 Premier League clubs could break into the top 30 richest clubs in the world - currently they all occupy a place in the top 40. Burnley are richer than Ajax
Grey Fox Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 He got two goals against the eventual world cup finalists Argentina in 2014: (Not a great quality video mind)
Les-TA-Jon Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 What the hell is the Nigerian GK doing for that freekick. He's moving over fine, and would have probably saved it if he'd been diving rather than walking...

Burnley are richer than Ajax Exactly. Last year we reportedly received 71.6m for finishing 14th: http://www.totalsportek.com/football/premier-league-prize-money-table-2015/ This year is the first of the new deal. If we could make the top 4 we would get at least £140m plus 12 million euros for reaching the champions league group stage. http://www.totalsportek.com/money/premier-league-tv-rights-money-distribution/ http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2597622-champions-league-2015-16-prize-money-club-by-club-breakdown-after-group-stage The way I think we are looking at it is that it is worth spending the extra 10-20 million in this window if it then helps us to bring most of that back in the extra prize money. At the start of the season we probably only budgeted for finishing 4th bottom which would have given us 103m. In that sense we are only looking at spending some of the extra unforeseen 35-40m that we likely now will be getting for finishing higher than expected. We are not borrowing it, it's been earned from what we have done so far this season.
Jon the Hat Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 And I bet their still not labelled 'big-spending Derby' People have to be interested to give you a label.
Babylon Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Exactly. I think next year is the new deal... you just have to stay up this year to get it. A top 4 finish could bring in £13-17m more depending where you finish. It's the facility fees that bump up the cash massively, but we've not really had that many games on. So you could end up with not much more than last year for facilities payment. Champions league is very much performance based, so not getting any points would get you just £12m in the group stages. The more points you get, the more cash you earn. You could win the league and get knocked out in the group stage and potentially only walk away with only £25m more in money than last year. Which is nuts, when you consider how much you'd get for doing the same next season.... excluding all factors like sponsorship and so on that would obviously drag in a fair amount.

Okay but my point is still valid. All we are really spending more than last year (when we paid quite a lot for Krameric for example) is the extra that we should recoup from finishing higher than we budgeted for. If we did only budget for 4th bottom (assumed the sensible option) then a top 4 finish still gets you about £30 million more, even on the old prize money figures.
