Hollism Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Like the title says. We've become a bit of a second team for anyone who doesn't support someone else in the title race over the last few months. People mentioning how they want us to do it, break through the monopoly of the big clubs, prove that anything is possible in football, blah blah. It's bizarre. If it were a similar sized club doing it in our shoes and we were sat firmly in the bottom half (like we expected to be), would you also be rooting for them to do it, or would you feel little more than indifference? Say for arguments sake it was West Brom leading the league. Or what if Burnley had stayed up last season at our expense and it was them doing it, with us flapping around the championship play off places. I honestly don't think I would be that bothered. Not as much as some neutrals seem to be, at least. I dislike both North London teams, so at this stage I'd probably be rooting for the little guy, but I wouldn't want them to win the league for the sake of upsetting the big guns. Thoughts?
foxfanazer Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I'd like to see the underdog do it but I don't think I'd be as excited as some opposition fans are for us. If we do it it's gonna take some beating to ever better it as a story so I thought there would be a bit more resentment
MPH Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 All depends on the team and the style they played and who the manager was and what their fans were like and if they were a midlands team Hard to say, really....
fuchsntf Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 W.Ham, Norwich, Swansea, Stoke, at a push WBA, and Southampton. One as to be fair..
foxfanazer Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Wouldn't mind Everton, Saints, Watford or West Ham doing it. Maybe Norwich at a push
Mark_w Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Depends entirely on the team doing it and who else was challenging, if it was a Hull/Burnley/Forest/Derby/Aston Villa/Watford then I wouldn't be enjoying it one bit and I'd be desperate for Man City to win it. Someone inoffensive like Swansea or Bournemouth and I'd be relishing it and hoping they could give us some hope by going on and winning it.

DB11 Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I think I'd be pissed off but, in saying that, when Man City won their first league title I was so happy and celebrated just cos it had ruined Man Utd's season
Nalis Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Will about 95% of the 'smaller' teams I'd want them to do well. Exceptions for Hull, Bournemouth, West Ham and Crystal Palace (last 2 purely because of the London media). Even then, I'd probably just accept it eventually and get behind them.
Danizen Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 When Southampton were flying high and we were still in the Championship I was happy for them but also very, very jealous. Same for Swansea and Villa when they were doing well. If another team was in our position, I'd definitely be rooting for them.
Salieri Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I think the fact we have Ranieri in charge who seems to be universally liked has made a difference, if Pearson was still in charge (and being spiky towards the media) then I don't think we'd have the same support. I think opposition fans have also appreciated the way we have gone about things, always looking to attack and win matches regardless of the opposition. I'm all for cheering on the underdog but I guess it would depend on a lot of factors other than just the team itself.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 If we were looking safe (32+ points right now) and another small-ish club (Palace, Swansea etc) were top, I'd be rooting for them all the way - definitely. If it was Villa, I'd probably be physically sick every day they were top. If it was Bournemouth, I'd be so sure match-fixing was involved I'd probably stop following football altogether. If it was Spurs or Liverpool I couldn't care less - I'm loving the traditional top 4 being broken apart but their fanbases are so chock full of meatheads I have no love for either team
NewEnglandFox Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I'd love it if Stoke, West Ham, or Southampton did it. I can't imagine West Brom, Palace, or Everton being able to pull it off. I'd hate it if it was a newly promoted side or the Northeast.
Sir Shep Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I was routing for Southampton last season, Swansea a while back. Yeah any team like us without the glory supporting muppets who cry when it doesn't no their way, who's fans know what its like playing outside of the top flight.
Benguin Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Villa - No Sunderland - No Watford - No Norwich - No Would struggle with Bournemouth, West Brom Swansea, West Ham, Southampton, Newcastle, Stoke, Palace would all get backing from me in a "I don't really want you to win but would rather that then one of the big 4" kind of way
Bluetintedspecs Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I would be watching on Sky and MOTD then I'd make my mind up
Great Boos Up Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 if we were heading to safety ourselves I suppose it would be like watching Stoke at the top.
Foxxed Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 I have no grudges against the mid and lower teams. I'd be happy for any of them, providing their fans don't get too tedious, which I admit may happen in a few cases.
CosbehFox Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 When Southampton were threatening it, I was fully behind them
Hammered Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Humbled by the number of "West Ham" i've seen here. Most of our lot are rooting for you, either because there isn't much to hate about you (is there anything really?) / two fingers to the status quo / screw up the Scum masterplan... I'm wondering however, should you win this indeed, if such support would occur again next season?
Foxxed Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 West Ham supporters have always been sound. How you can be so physically close to Spurs but lightyears away from their conceited tedium astonishes me.
Izzy Posted 29 February 2016 Posted 29 February 2016 Humbled by the number of "West Ham" i've seen here. Most of our lot are rooting for you, either because there isn't much to hate about you (is there anything really?) / two fingers to the status quo / screw up the Scum masterplan... I like you. It's refreshing to have a fan of another club on here who's complementary of us and also talks sense.
