Mapping - I have been thinking of doing this to my e320. From what I have seen of the options fuel economy will increase as well as the bhp (already at 224 0-60 7.3).

What about insurers? Have you enquired or are you not telling them?

Has anyone else mapped theirs and what was the increase in their insurance?

Looking at whether it is cost effective. If the fuel saving covers the premium increase I would probably  do it.

Friend of mine literally had a stage 1 ECU remapping at the weekend. He has the exact same model as @JR99

It set him back the best part of £450, bumped the BHP up to 360-odd.

It added £60 to his annual insurance, so he says.

At a v conservative estimate it would be about £200 a year saved in fuel with a further 30+bhp with what I have seen online with the map for mine.

With 3 years (i tend to keep cars a while and its a v low mileage - 66,000 for an 09 diesel) and with those costs (£450 with £60 a year insurance) comes to a grand outlay of £30. £30 for extra bhp plus better response/acceleration.

It is certainly worth considering.

A bit of shameless plugging...if anyone is in the market for a new motor, let me know!

Recently changed jobs to sell cars at a car supermarket,  a decent one as well, very competitive prices!

Can usually find something suitable.

Wanna buy mine off me?

Nah!

Don't go to we buy any car though.

One of my handover team worked for them. They give you a great quote online, then the assessors job is to pick your car apart and get it for basically nothing.

It's run by British car auctions, they want maximum profit at auction, obviously.

She's told me a few stories...once, a car was perfect, she couldn't find a fault, they matched the online quote, she got a bollocking!

Another one was a car valued at 4 grand online, was bought for 75 quid after the assessment lol

Second day of having my GTI i was driving down the M1 and a ****ing deer was standing in the slow lane. Luckily i had switched lanes a minute or so earlier because i would probably have written it off.... and the car.

You'd have to be seriously desperate for 75 quid to accept that price if they originally said 4 grand.

Got to sell my mum's motor soon.

Tempted to get a WeBuyAnyCar quote and then walk away when they take the piiss with the price when they see it.

Keep us updated, if you get 50% of your online quote, you've done well.

They are effectively the payday loans company of buying cars.

Mpg will slightly increase with the greater low down torque, but I'm more interested in smiles per gallon than miles per gallon... I declare all my mods to insurers, not worth the risk otherwise, I just want a decent custom map rather than a stock job, someone who knows what they're doing with injection timing etc

My HID bulb decided to go at the same time... :( pink eye and half a bumper but luckily I'm getting it sorted now, God only know what damage a deer could do Screenshot_20190721-215447_Photos.thumb.jpg.a1b229aa8fa1123cafd691101464516a.jpg

I guess this was a shot before the badger? I hit one once. It's like hitting a breeze block. The car took off. Amazingly the car did not appear to be damaged although you could see the skid mark on the road where it touched down again. In the eight years I had that car it sometimes seemed it led a charmed life. Damaged and repaired after a caravan caught on fire at Glastonbury festival. Graffiti sprayed all down the left hand side. Two rear enders. The second rear-ender was terminal, a Turkish taxi driver ran into the back at the end of the M69.

Yep pre badger gate :sweating: shot above shows some of the damage... luckily mines been alright other than the badger, but in the last couple of days cracked an alloy on a huge pothole, 19 inch alloys and super low profile pirellis don't go well

I went with them when I needed a quick sale and they only knocked about £50 off on the day, and to be fair there was some window trim missing which I hadn't filled in online.

Ah right I can imagine the insurance being a lot! Still a nice car mind. Getting them brand new you’re looking at roughly 30k anyway lol

If you're willing to come to Burton there's a great guy who I used on my Audi A1 called CC Tuning. He took it from 185bhp A1 to just over 200bhp, and tuned the DSG box for lower/faster changes in both Auto and Sport modes. He said that BHP was the maximum he could get out of mine before the temps started getting too high.

https://cctuning.co.uk/

https://m.facebook.com/CCTuningLtd

He writes all his own maps custom for each vehicle and depending on what you want out of it (mpg/power/a mixture). I know a couple of lads who've had theirs done and they were all impressed with his work.

That sounds awesome, I'm currently working in derby, hazelwood for an engineering company so burton is nice and easy just off Toyota roundabout. I've been quoted 215 BHP by a couple of companys so my car should respond quite nicely,  a custom DSG map would be ideal the lag from my box does my head in

It's really easy to get to from the A38 (Branston turn-off).

He showed me the settings on the laptop for the DSG box. He can do specific revs/change points in every single gear. And in both Auto and Sport modes. The lag on mine is almost nonexistent. Just goes constantly up the revs when you floor it now.
