It is crazy money, but I'd say that's about what it costs......especially when you consider what they actually do.

You could probably do it yourself for about £100.  I've got an Audi (an older A3) and I service it myself.  A few filters, a bit of oil & that's about it.

People are obsessed with service records when it comes to re-sale & that's what you're paying for.  I just stamp my book with a potato

2 years old and 20000 miles and not had a service yet. I take this for that money it's a major service so just do it this time.

Thanks both, appreciated! I'll go get a potato now

Looking for some genuine advice here....

I own a Vauxhall Insignia, 67 plate with less than 10,000 mls on the clock.

Early last December, the sensor went on the accelerator pedal and the dreaded light came on to tell me the car was in ‘limp mode’

An hour later, I was being hauled down to Drive Vauxhall on the back of a wagon.

Here comes the weird bit.... I’ve been told a faulty sensor necessitates a whole new accelerator pedal and that these are on ‘back order’ from Vauxhall, in Germany.

They have now had my car in for repair for....wait for it, 2 and a half months, still waiting for the part!

Thank God the car is still under warrantee because I’ve been issued with a lease car for all this time.

The garage have been very pleasant and apologetic but I want my own car back!......

Anything I can do here?

Would contacting Vauxhall directly help?

I would have thought going directly to Vauxhall wouldn’t do you any harm.

I ordered a Golf from the VW garage in Leicester (avoid) and I cancelled it after they ripped me off and lied repeatedly and I only got my deposit back after going direct to VW.

Yep - customer services. Think first about what you want from them... (not just the new part) maybe it’s a better/more suitable replacement vehicle or a free service and MOT when the warranty runs out.... Be nice but also say things about stress, your quality of life and how your trust in the brand and the car has diminished and now you are not sure if you even want the vehicle. You won’t be the first to get upset and say the words “Vauxhall have let me down” (NOW GIVE ME FREE STUFF)

I honestly think you’ll have more luck giving them a call. When BMW screwed up a part for my bike in 2012 on back order from Germany and in turn prevented me from going on a ‘biking holiday....’ They offered me a car, which I didn’t want or need followed by all the work being done for free, followed by paying for my next service in full and sending me a load of BMW Motorrad clothes and bike wear and a free place on a track day....

Some advice please.

My Q3 is due its first service next week. 2 years old, 20,000 miles. I rang audi today and they booked me in. £360!!!

Am I going mad or is that not crazy money?? I did ask what it entailed but she gave me loads of car chat (not my specialist subject). A poly.. something? I dunno, but I'm being ripped off here right?!!! X

Standard price Im afraid....if you can afford the Q3 from new you need to stomach the prices. Audi Leicester have mixed reviews, I've found them ok, they will price match with a audi approved agarage within a certain radius. I got about £100 off my last service doing that, worth a shot.

If this is the right part at least you can tell them where to get one

Orange light came on for the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) on Thursday - when it's happened before, I've found an empty piece of road and put my foot down for a while until it clears it. Didn't have a chance to do that this time, and the red light came on. Car went into limp mode with a 'urgent, visit dealer' warning message on the dash.

I was only about 10 minutes from my local dealers so dropped it in - they looked at it and told me in needed a new exhaust system and DPF and it would cost £3,500!

I declined their kind offer, got a mobile DPF cleaner out to do the job and they charged me £300. He said it looked good as new and just about laughed his cock off when I told him what the dealer had said.

Great, innit. Robbing fvckers.

Fuch's me off when a warning light comes on and the car goes into limp cock mode. Just another way of dealerships making money out of their customers. I have a trusted independent workshop nearby. I'll always go to them first. Don't be scared by the instruction to "stop, contact your nearest (whatever your car manufacture is). It's bollox.

Main dealers are a scam. Alfa was back in the garage again this morning, new coolant housing in and done in a couple of hours, £200 with a headlight bulb done for peanuts. Dread to think what the dealer would have charged me.

I took my BMW back for a recall (it was about 8 years old). Was treat like dirt by a guy in the service department before he had any idea what I was there for. Left me stood infront of his desk for a good 2 minutes before acknowledging me and offering me a seat. Told me I was in on the wrong date, which I wasn’t. He was a one of those ‘I’m wearing a suit to work so I’m important types’.

Spoke to someone about it on my way out at the main desk where there where plenty of potential customers knocking around. I said I was going to have a browse for a new car while I was there but wouldn’t dream of purchasing from there now.

Ended up with an upgraded courtesy car and they’d put me a new timing chain when I picked the car up a week later. Which I was pleased about given it was completely unrelated to the recall.

Unfortunately a bloke driving a G4S van (on his phone) drove into me a few weeks later and wrote the thing off.

Anyone into detailing at all? Given the free time on my hands I've done a decent tar/rust spot decontamination, wash, polish and wax that I don't usually get to do. Want to get the wheels off and get the arches done and the back of the alloys etc, but I've always had trouble getting the wheels off the Alfa for some reason.

Interior next up today/tomorrow.
