Gerard Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 I don't think Southampton is a must win. We have doused spurs with pressure this week and have a minimum 5 point head start going into next week. Southampton are in form and have a great squad. We have the advantage of being at home and it can't be stressed enough how important the "12th man" will be. A point will be a good result but with Tottenham away at Liverpool and Liverpool being an in form team (Picked up as many as us over the last ten) I fancy an upset for spurs. If spurs win on Saturday then a point is essential but a win preferable. If spurs lose then there is no pressure as we remain 5 ahead without kicking a ball. Hopefully we can calve out a decent win with spurs dropping and be closer to the finish line. I won't make my mind up about this game just yet though as next is some fun watching Drinky and Kante making their international debuts! Southampton is a MUST WIN, would any of the other title contenders see anything less than 3pts as a half decent result? Also it's irrelevant who Tottenham are playing that day, we have to do our job and hope our rivals fail to do their's. If Tottenham get a draw away at Liverpool we'll be quite happy with that as we'll see it as two points dropped. If we get a point against Southampton on the same weekend then they've managed to get through a very difficult away game and lose ground to us whilst we've played a good mid table side at home and took the same points. Advantage Spurs that weekend. Our last three games are very difficult we need to try and win the title or near as damn it before we go into them. If we have a 2pt lead or so we'll probably lose it. We need to keep winning, solitary points are not good enough in any of the next four fixtures.
Gerard Posted 20 March 2016 Posted 20 March 2016 I really don't this we'll be favourites for any of these games apart from Swansea. Southampton are an excellent side, Sunderland have only lost once at home (dodgy 1-0 to Man City) in 2016, and West Ham are also excellent. As long as we stay focused and continue to defend like we have, we could get seven or eight points from these matches. More would be a bonus. If you look at the bookies odds for any of these matches Leicester will be favourites. I can 100% guarantee you that.

I think the last 3 games will be a doddle they are likely to be more open and that's where we can counterattack, the likes of Sunderland lower fodder teams will sit in their own half and let us have possession of the ball aka what has happened these past couple of games and the one nil scorelines.

Using your logic West Brom and Bournemouth at home were must win games which we didnt and yet we are 5pts clear now.

I really can't think of any logic as to why you think we won't be favourites to beat all of those teams. We are top of the league and playing three teams at home. The team we are playing away is in the bottom three. Of course we will be favourites to win all four.

But that is what Leicester is good at; fighting.
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 the MNF when koeman was on... did suggest he thought one of the better ways newcastle could beat us was using the longer direct balls to mitrovic. so i think he will be looking to play on the counter to start off with, but will definately adapt his tactics as the game develops. Will be a very very hard game. But ranieri will get the boys clued up on what they need to do tactically.
moseeds Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 This is a must win game. We dropped points at home to Bournemouth and WBA - I really hope those games don't come back to haunt us.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 1-1 / 1-2, really rate the Saints. A team we may be able to counter effectively though... but they have more class about them in possession than us. Can see them grabbing the W.
AKCJ Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 If we win this and Spurs drop points then it's game over IMO. 7/8 points clear with 18 left.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 I can see this being another really tough game One we can win though hopefully Up the Foxes
kingcarr21 Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 People need to chill out. It isn't a MUST WIN game. That's the sort of pressure fans are putting on themselves which will translate onto the pitch come match day if we go behind. We have 7 games left. Don't fret about those last 3 games. We went Man City and ruined them and went to Arsenal who needed a red card just to get a shot on target. Don't get me wrong I want to win the earlier games to make life a little easier but get it out of your head that these next few games are must win. They most certainly are not. 3 more wins and I cant see us losing it. We have 7 games to find those 3 wins. We have only lost 3 all season so if we draw a couple its fine. Don't hit the panic button at the first sign of a wobble whether that is a defeat or draw.

Heisenberg Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Keep Mane and Ward-Prowse quiet and we've got this imo. They won't sit back against us
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Southampton are a good side. I like Koeman and for the job he has done there credit to him. Southampton have a very decent squad in fairness. I think the key for us is to try to keep calm in these remaining matches, keep winning ultimately. It's important for us to persist with the winning mentality following our recent results and to attempt to maintain our momentum and position at the top of the table. Really hope we can win this one as I do with all the others.
Kendal Fox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 This is a must win game. We dropped points at home to Bournemouth and WBA - I really hope those games don't come back to haunt us. Yeah, but both those bunch of sods adopted negative tactics in order to claim the moral victory of taking a point off of us, which they did of course. I very much doubt Saints will be such spoilers. I'd imagine they will take it to us as they'll want to get a foot in the Europa League door at the very least. Still, we need to be prepared for them to mix it up.

I guess we can get carried away and start fretting at the slightest thing, foregtting that we are still in a very good position! But it's hard not to live in the moment, especially when you get the feeling that this is a once in a 130 year opportunity!! Still, your points are well made. Excellent comment.
Gerard Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Beer and donuts pre match being handed out Hopefully the Southampton squad are given the courtesy that they can eat and drink as much as they want before the match.
Sunbury Fox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Will definitely need to watch these on set pieces. They are excellent in the air. Scored 2 off corners against us there and Koeman was pinpointing how Newcastle should hit long high diagonal balls to the big man last Monday. Need Kasper to do what he did well at Palace and give Big Wes and Huth some help.
biggs Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Just took a peak at the league table, the form table, the top goal scorers the everything table and all looks good. Stop your worrying.......the saints can go marching somewhere else.

It's still a tall order even from here and I do not go with the idea that our run in is so much easier than Spurs' either.
ARM1968 Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 It's quite possible that we will have essentially won the title before the last three games. Just as likely that we will still need points though. As others have said the team that deserves to win the league will be the one top after the last match. Hope it's us.
Dr The Singh Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Very tough game, a point will not be a bad result
