Guest Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 A ball playing CB. We can't go away to Benfica and have 34% possession. Huth and Morgan are great at that they do but they're not the greatest on the ball and they look uncomfortable with it if they have it for too long. Or maybe I'm off my head with this. I'm told John Stones fits this description
AKCJ Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 The weird thing for me is that yesterday, when it was confirmed that we'd get a top 4 place I simply said "Huh, cool". Absolutely mad, I'd have ripped your arm off for top 4 at the start of the season.
Dan Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Don't you get a 'baseline' coefficient due to the league you come from? So a Premier League or La Liga club gets X points as opposed to a Latvian club that gets Y by default? Wouldn't that figure likely see us in to 3 if we don't finish champions? I thought it was based entirely off European performance, so any newcomers, no matter how they did it will end up in pot four, unless they jump the queue like we could do.
kingcarr21 Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 People are arguing on facebook because of this 'what happens if Leicester finish 4th and Man City finish outside the top 4 but win the CL' Cant people do simple maths. Only 3 teams can catch us. If Man City fall out the top 4 what does that tell you? Morons
Captain... Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 People are arguing on facebook because of this 'what happens if Leicester finish 4th and Man City finish outside the top 4 but win the CL' Cant people do simple maths. Only 3 teams can catch us. If Man City fall out the top 4 what does that tell you? Morons Even the BBC are at it http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36011418 The Foxes cannot finish lower than fourth but could still miss out on a place in Europe's premier club competition. That would happen if: Leicester finished in fourth place; And Manchester City won the Champions League and finished outside of the top four. Which is also wrong because it would also require Liverpool to win the Europa League.
Dan Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Why not? What good is 66% possession if you can't score. When were English teams last dominating in Europe when we were trying to out pass and out dribble our European counter parts? Or when we were big strong fast and in their faces. You could argue we have been trying for too long now to imitate the European way, but we will never be able to out pass and out play Barcelona or Madrid. Stick to what we are good at solid defence, energetic midfield and pacy attack and a no nonsense approach to defending. Morgan and Huth are good enough on the ball to set attacks going, and experienced enough to know how to deal with most situations, but more importantly they are not going to Stones it up by overplaying in dangerous situations and give away cheap goals. I think this is the main reason we struggle in Europe and we struggle internationally. We try to adapt rather than make them adapt.
Fox92 Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Wonderful achievement. And that's an understatement. Never in my life did I ever think we'd qualify for the Champions League.
fuchsntf Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 First, I want this season to come to its completion, before rocking on this platform. CL positioning will depend, where we finish. Nobody yet has understood or got to grips to the way we play, and when they believe they've worked us out, they fall at the last moment. That in itself must mean something, and could again take us deep into next season. We will invest in players, plus some fringe players from this season will deserve and get their chance. Dont in your thoughts, make the same mistake as the misguided pundits you all are fond of criticising. There is a fine margin, and balances we can use well. We all, should be carefull what we wish for, the set up so far has served us well. Ranieri and his staff will know , how to handle the future, and what is needed. Wholesale changes, will change the whole ethos, plus we need to wait to see if this club and who Ranieri can persuade to stay.Lets see if Mahrez and Kante want to help build up their own new stories, by helping City create a new epoch, or grab at others coattails, by choosing the too obvious. Wages automatically will be increased for all 1st squad members, not to Barcelona or R.Madrid standards, but well above the european norm especially if the title is achieved.

Absolutely mad, I'd have ripped your arm off for top 4 at the start of the season. I agree! How crazy that if we don't win the league it will almost seem like a disappointing season! To lose it to the vile spuds will really hurt for me.

I can only assume that article was written in between us winning and Spurs winning but people even now are suggesting its not guaranteed.
Rincewind Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Barcelona fans crossing fingers for glamourous Leicester away day It is satire.
fuchsntf Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 We will finish at least in the top 2 , so no probs.!!!

Jace Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 The arguments are going to be endless when we win it next year and the Forest fans boast they have twice
Bamba's Babes Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 I barely gave it a second glance when it was confirmed we had qualified for the Champions League. Chap on BBC5Live was saying we would want Tottenham to win because a Man Utd loss would guarantee Champions League... I want the league title, that's it. Bonkers.

Spudulike Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 The arguments are going to be endless when we win it next year and the Forest fans boast they have twice. Notts Forest have never qualified for the Champions League let alone won it. The competition they won bears little resemblance.

OUFCTony Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Hope I've read it wrong but I thought an earlier thread said England could only have a maximum of four clubs, and if Liverpool and Man. City won the cups and finished outside the top four, it would only be the top two? UEFA increased it to five when they decided to give the Europa League winners a place in the Champions League (to make people take that competition seriously). Spain had five teams this season after Sevilla won last season's Europa League but finished 5th in La Liga.

Was that the one with Stuart Pearce alongside him? We had that on coming out of Sunderland, he said something like 30,000 leicester fans want Spurs to win to gaurantee champions league football, er no, we wanted United to win to increase the gap more.
Bluefoxtim Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 As crazy as this sounds, I see myself hoping fixtures / results play out so that we can win the title on our terms, at home. Remember when we won the Championship when we weren't even playing and it was a bit of strange atmosphere.

We won the championship away at Bolton, we were promoted when we played before the Saturday fixtures.
