MC Prussian Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 It is quite a bizarre achievement. We've never been part of that competition and in some ways, I'm still oblivious to the fact that we'll be plying our trade amongst Europe's finest next season. Part of it is down to maintaining the focus on the last five league games and the index finger getting veeeery close to the PL trophy now, part of it because I still can't believe what we've actually achieved this campaign.
Gerard Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Fantastic achievement to qualify for the Champions League. Absolutely fantastic. Ironic when we finally confirmed CL qualification we were all gutted.
Gerard Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 I'm sure it's possible to find a no nonsense defender who doesn't take risks... but can also pass a little. This isn't just about champions league, but next season in the league. People are going to respect us like they are now and we need to improve all over the pitch if we want to stay near the top end of the league. Improving our ball retention and having better passing players, doesn't mean you have to take away from what we do now, it's about adding another string to our bow. At the moment we're struggling a little attack wise compared to what we did as we never release the full backs. That's to protect Morgan and especially Huth, they will get done for pace if isolated too much. A quicker CB who is better on the ball, gives the potential to release a full back a bit more if we want to. We just need a few tweaks, not an overhaul. 100% agree. How well we've done this season without sufficient possession is an anomaly in the top European leagues. In the vast majority of successful sides in Europe there is a direct correlation between possession and league position. Why we shouldn't be quick to sacrifice the style of play that got us this far we do need to find another way of breaking teams down who try to nullify our pace and direct play. Maybe signing someone like Musa wouldn't be a great idea as he is quicker than Vardy by all accounts and teams will just sit deep against us if we inject more pace into our side. I'm not saying having more pace is a negative because it certainly isn't but we may be better off getting a ball player as a No 10 or a creative wide player?
Gerard Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Ha ha same... at this moment my mentality is "Champions league, yeah great whatever" It's all about Pot 1 baby.
Guest Bilo Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Anybody else get the feeling that we're almost guaranteed either Atletico, just because, and/or Olympiacos because of the Cambiasso connection?
Harry - LCFC Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Anybody else get the feeling that we're almost guaranteed either Atletico, just because, and/or Olympiacos because of the Cambiasso connection? No because I know that's not how probability works.
FireFox Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Anybody else get the feeling that we're almost guaranteed either Atletico, just because, and/or Olympiacos because of the Cambiasso connection?And/or Monaco. If not in the group, then in a knockout round, which for Atletico would be more fitting.
Soar Fox Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Win the league we go into pot 1, finish anywhere else we will be in pot 4. So where do we want to go?
Phube Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 This Champion's League thing is great, but one thing we seem to have missed... We are guaranteed to finish, in the Premier League ABOVE Manchester United! Now I know they're not a proper Man U, but to me finishing above Man U in the Prem era! Just wow!
jim5000 Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 I think this is the main reason we struggle in Europe and we struggle internationally. We try to adapt rather than make them adapt. I think it's why Leicester are winning so much at the moment. The opposition is setting out to stop us playing. As soon as they do that, they are accepting our game plan rather than playing to their own strengths and with the tight margins of the Premier League, the team playing to their strengths rather than focusing on stopping the opposition is more likely to win.
Dan Posted 11 April 2016 Posted 11 April 2016 Anybody else get the feeling that we're almost guaranteed either Atletico, just because, and/or Olympiacos because of the Cambiasso connection? I've said this ages. Those two and Monaco. And/or Monaco. If not in the group, then in a knockout round, which for Atletico would be more fitting. sake
AyewJoking Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 I think this is the main reason we struggle in Europe and we struggle internationally. We try to adapt rather than make them adapt. internationally perhaps but the english teams that play in europe are chock full of foreign talent, many of whom are accustomed to the continental style.
Sharpe's Foxes Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 Well no, it's if Man City drop out of the top 4 and win CL. Then they win CL, so they get Pot 1. If Liverpool and Man City are both out of the top 4 and win their European competitions, then only top 3 are in. EDIT: I can't do maths. We can't finish worse than 3rd if Man City drop in form, so regardless, we're in Champions League qualifying rounds. I can't see man city beat Barcelona. Ma. City's defense is horrid.
Master Fox Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 Imagine if we get Atheltico Madrid and Red Star Belgrade
AKCJ Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 I've said this ages. Those two and Monaco. sake What a ****ing group that'd be though... Monaco, Madrid and Piraeus.
Captain... Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 100% agree. How well we've done this season without sufficient possession is an anomaly in the top European leagues. In the vast majority of successful sides in Europe there is a direct correlation between possession and league position. I'm not saying having more pace is a negative because it certainly isn't but we may be better off getting a ball player as a No 10 or a creative wide player? Atletico Madrid have less than 50% possession in la liga this season, they are doing alright, and that is in a league with some very weak teams where they will be able to dominate possession. Why change what works to be more like the teams we have been beating all season. We are where we are because we have gone against the grain and done it a different way. Last season we started out brightly took teams on, partly due to injuries giving us few options. As soon as everyone was fit Pearson decided we should be more of a possession team started buggering about with a diamond and one up front and trying to be something we were not and we plummeted. We are a team that defends as a unit, throws bodies on the line and if we can get in to our shape they won't score. We do not have the 4 best defenders in the league but we have the best back 4 because of how they are organised and how they know each others' game. The greatest risk to our defensive organisation is making a mistake and losing possession in a dangerous area while our defence is out of position. If we lump it out of play and lose possession we have time to regain our shape. Also we don't have players good enough to play possession football, even our best passers, Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater play really sloppy balls and give away possession way too cheaply. If we want to be a possession side we would need to completely over haul the team. We need to make sensible signings to improve the overall quality of the squad Musa or someone similar should be signed to play the Vardy role, not to play with Vardy, we need a better number 10, that is a given for me. Okazaki is our weak link, love his effort but again gives away possession too easily, a more creative wide man would be nice, but to play the Mahrez role, not the Albrighton role, he is the work horse and that makes the team function. As for defenders I'm not saying we don't look for an upgrade on Huth or Morgan or any of the back 4, but they have to be players that defend with the same passion commitment and discipline I don't want a ball playing defender, but an equal defender that can pass a bit better would be an improvement.
foxy boxing Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 players will now want 2 come 2 leicester because where in the champions league
americanfox Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 How well we've done this season without sufficient possession is an anomaly in the top European leagues. In the vast majority of successful sides in Europe there is a direct correlation between possession and league position. There is a bigger and more founded correlation between wage bill and league position. So this summer, let's recruit more of those players at Vardy's wage packet who fit in our system. This is a rare opportunity I hope we take.

martyn Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 Appreciate it's tough to answer, but does anyone have any inkling based on past European trips, or arrangements other Premier League teams have, the likelihood of getting tickets for CL away games if you arent a P1 or P2 ST holder? Would absolutely love to go to any away we have but no idea if demand will be as high as it is now for away Premier League tickets where P3 down have no chance

Surely if you do they wont be going every away game it'll just wont be financially viable for a lot of our fan base to go to every single one
Jonezy Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 We are in the Champions League!!!! This is flippin insane.... It is slowly sinking in...
le4foxforever Posted 12 April 2016 Posted 12 April 2016 I want either the madrid clubs or roma, who are in third place. A homecoming for claudio would be immense. I'll be getting time of work and easyjetting from east mids. for either of these.
