Speak to Football Supporters Federation if you feel you've been wronged.

This.

I have known the club to use the tactic of people getting on with whatever "wrong" they feel the person is committing then taking action after before, so not that surprising - which begs the question, how dangerous is that "crime" in the first place.

If the claim about the stewards trying to get him nicked is true, that's beyond ridiculous. Sad as I've generally found stewards to be more tolerant of stuff in general over the past couple of years.

This may be unpopular but rules are rules.

I used to smoke, now I use an e cig.  There are signs everywhere that you can't do either in the ground.  They open up the doors at half time to allow you to go outside and smoke.  If you can't go 45 minutes to an hour without smoking then there is a problem.

The rules are there for everyone to see, and it's not like these rules just apply to our stadium, they are the rules for pretty much every public building in the entire country.  I turn my e cig off as I enter the ground, swith it back on at halftime, outside, and then turn it off again until the end of the match.

If rules are there, whether we agree with them or not, then the rules have to be followed.

Honest question to those saying "rules are rules", does the notice at the ground specify a 2 game ban will be the penalty for smoking e-cigs? Some of you seem to be confusing knowledge of the rule with knowledge of the penalty for breaking it. I think most reasonable people would expect something like a warning or at the very worst ejection for repeat offending. But can anyone honestly say the punishment fits the crime here?

Thanks for the comments guys.  Yes I am an idiot and I was warned before in the concourse and since have refrained from using it there.  I was not fully aware of the policy and foolishly thought I would be OK in an outdoor area, where I see many people using the devices and them being advertised on the pitch side boards.  I have apologised to the club and assured them it will not happen again.  I have asked them to suspend the ban til next season, no beans.  Yes they did physically restrain me after some initial resistance on my part but they refused to let me go once outside the stadium.  They asked the police to arrest me, search me for my season ticket and take my details.  The police declined all three requests as it is not a criminal matter and released me much to the stewards disappointment.  When asked to release the grip on my arm they refused and only let me go once the police actually had to ask them to do so.

The letter states im banned from home games which ridiculously means I am allowed to the away game beam backs at the stadium.  They have a supporter charter that states if ejected you will receive a letter posted the next working day.  I got mine 5 working days later on the Saturday leaving no time for an appeal before Sundays game.  I think the appeal process involves flipping a coin.

The letter also states they will not tolerate any breach of their ground regulations.  The ground regulations also state you cannot stand up.  I'm waiting to hear back how I can meet these regulations going forward when everyone around me stands and the only way to see the game, is to stand...

unfortunately you took the risk, you paid the price.  They are less likely to remove the ban and based on what you've said they might just say you were aggressive. You could try asking to speak to someone face to face at the club

Bit harsh being banned for the last home game. However the rules are in place for everyone's safety and respect.

I'm a smoker but I don't do it around others so they have to breath in my fumes. I know E-cigs is only steam but still not pleasant for others who don't use them.

Not being able to go a couple of hours with out one I'd hate to see how you cope on a plane.

Makes you wonder what would happen if there was a full-scale pitch invasion after Everton, "the club will not tolerate any breach of their ground regulations" - seems to me that if you've been told that then they'll have to ban a lot of people that day - my point being of course that they wouldn't do that, they would use common sense and say, "we won the league it's okay....we'll get away with this one" etc - common sense here is yes you broke the rules, it didn't endanger anyones life - you're more than sorry, that we can tell - what else do people want? I can tell you'd never do it again just from reading what you gotta say, get a petition up pal and i'll spread it around as well. When the hell did the world become about destroying people over stupid things and ramming them home? Crazy

They should start banning people for eating in the ground as well or drinking bovril as that shit is nasty. I reckon my life expectancy takes a hammering more from kiffing that than a few puffs of cherry magic in the air.

Some of the snap they serve at the ground is nauseating too.

The standing analogy doesn't work though, there are ~5000 people stood up in the ground on any given match day when the away end is full, so they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they tried to throw you out for standing, plus everyone knows that L1 and SK1 stand anyway and the club don't seem bothered.

"I'd hate to see how you cope on a plane."

Ironically, I am a pilot.  And there are no laws or regulations about using them on the flight deck!

Yes it was in SK1, and yes there are no laws restricting their use.  Just a ground regulation, which I acknowledge, I broke.

I love all the people who are outraged and disgusted by ecig steam, seriously if you live anywhere near Leicester the proximity of the M1 means you're smoking 4-5 cigs a day anyhow.

who is this kev bishop?

also smoking them inside is only illegal i believe in wales. people see what looks like smoke coming out of peoples mouths and believe its dangerous and say its not properly been long term tested. i vape and take mine the football but i take a drag and hold it in so long that when i breathe out no steam comes out my mouth. this to me is not a problem and no one has ever told me other wise.

i have been told off for having it in my mouth in the club shop.

I'm sorry I get fed up of people smoking in the away ends at games e Sig or not I have a heart condition and don't want to breath that shit in smoking is banned in all areas of the ground you can wait and have one after the game like everyone else

I'm really trying to have sympathy for you, but to be honest I'm struggling.

You had been previously warned about doing it in the ground (yeah, concourse, but you should know there's no difference), your mate had been chucked out for doing the same thing? Whether you agree with them or not, their rules are theirs to enforce as they see fit. Obviously as fans we hope they do it fairly and without hypocrisy - but that won't always be the case.

And to be honest, you're a pilot so you're obviously a smart bloke - surely you should have know better than to even risk getting in trouble?

who is this kev bishop?

Someone, who told me this exact same story, the day after the west ham game, I assume from putting 2 and 2 together that the OP is the guy he was telling me about, if that's the case then I can vouch that his story is correct.

All though the way Kev told it, it took about 12 stewards to take the OP down  just seen the 2nd post he made 12 is the magic number it seems.

My mates had the same years back when the KP wasn't so busy, we have always stood at the back of SK1 since we moved from Filbo, just to the left of UFS now.

2 off them went for a half time piss and got dragged out for persistant standing, they picked on the littlest one 1st. Never came and spoke to any of the other 30 odd of us, just binned them out the ground, took season tickets and issued a 3 match ban, at the time the follwed england away as well, so nearly cost them their memberships, they fought it and only missed 1 or 2 games and got an apology in the end.

I have not posted this for sympathy to be fair.  I am posting to make people aware of how the club are addressing issues such as this so other people, of which there are 100's ive observed dont get in the same bother.  I have acknowledge I did wrong and guaranteed the club it will not happen again.  That should be enough in my opinion.

I feel for you OP, not sure the punishment fits the matter.

On the other side of the spectrum, it's pretty ballsy doing something like that, not something i'd try to do anywhere that says "no smoking". Rather not find out what would happen.

I do feel for you though.

I got caught in B1 v West Ham. (one off ticket) Hospitality opened at 11 and by the time Vards was sent off I'd been stressing for hours, and they don't let you out of that area at any time. so tried a discrete sneaky puff.

I was told "you know the rules!" at given a stern warning.

I think the general practice now is; if you want to watch the football DON'T SMOKE. Especially because of the increased TV global coverage and sport cameras are sweeping the crowds for reactions and don't want to see these bad habits.

I'll take gum next time, although I'm sure King Power make a tidy sum on selling cigarettes in their duty free.
