Koke Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 King also has 3 goals this season and started far fewer games than Drinkwater. If only King's overall game was better he'd be the ultimate midfielder for us. A goal scoring CM is a rarity these days.
Koke Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 Drinkwater's been excellent for our particular team and way of playing. However, in a different team with different tactics his lack of goals may be be a significant handicap. Because normally a team would need more goals from central midfield and we've only got away with it because of the brilliance of Vardy/Mahrez and the effect of having three of our four midfield players plus Shinji offering massive defensive assistance. I don't say such an aproach couldn't work elsewhere but Drinkwater wouldn't necessarily shine in a plan B and Leicester's massive strengths in employing such an approach would be easily replicated and anything less than outstanding and the system would be vulnerable. I fully agree with your assessment there.
artursteppe Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 We've got to be careful though haven't we? 80k a week for four separate players. Seems a bit much or is that normal, like can we actually afford that? I mean, say we go out of the European Cup and don't win the League again (say we finished 10th next season) would we still make enough to sustain paying players that amount? I read somewhere that our wages bill last year was about 17th highest in the Premier League, so room to raise the wages bill and still keep it all in proportion.
dylanlegend Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 Kasper 70k Simpson 40k Fuchs 50k Morgan 50k Huth 50k Mahrez 100k Kante 100k Drinky 80k Albrighton 50k Okazaki 50k Vardy 100k I think that's pretty fair wages for our champions. Also ensure nobody is that annoyed others are earning so much more.
UPinCarolina Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 A lot of Liverpool fans don't want him and don't rate him. I understand their fears. They bought Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen after they had impressive campaigns with Sunderland and Swansea respectively, and both of them are now deemed not good enough. Granted, Joe Allen was was signed by Rodgers who used to manage him at Swansea. And yes I get it, neither Sunderland nor Swansea actually won the league. Drinkwater has been good for us this season but until he does it for for 2-3 seasons in the PL people will have doubts over him. Understandably so. I really like Joe Allen as a player. Is he for sale?
Dan Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 I find it really weird how under-rated our players are in terms of their fees in papers yet whenever we're linked with someone it's ridiculously inflated.
Dan Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 Highest scoring central midfielders from last season: Noble 7 Davis 5 Kouyate 5 Drinkwater 3 Considering he's a defensive midfielder who rarely gets in the box that's reasonable and only 3 of his piers managed more. Alose he managed 7 assists and of the 13 players in the league who managed more are either forwards or attacking midfielders. Just me or is that ridiculously low? Only three midfielders scored more than Drinkwater?
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 So am I the only one who has enjoyed watching Drinkwater improve over the years despite his knockers?

I don't think he was played too much as an CAM.

I don't think he was played too much as an CAM. I only counted players who are CM's and not players like Fabregas who sometimes play as attacking mids.
Wonk_V71 Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 Fine by me. That's the game. They've just completed the most amazing accomplishment in recent footballing history. They deserve it. If we've got all of our best players signed up on nice big fat tight contracts in September I'll be applauding our management team.

This. Hopefully this is why none of our best players will be sold. We're champions of England and if any of our top players were to leave it should be for top money in line with their top performances. Look at some of the fees that Southampton have received for their players that they probably didn't want to leave. I don't remember Southampton being Premier League champions.

Might be because we have allowed our players release clauses whilst other clubs are more clever at negotiating with there own players.
foxfanazer Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 Really hope there's nothing in this. He's developed so much with us and has been written off on a few occasions only to come back stronger. His partnership with Kante and his understanding with Vardy was pivotal to our title win. Honestly wouldn't put a value on him
Thracian Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 King also has 3 goals this season and started far fewer games than Drinkwater. If only King's overall game was better he'd be the ultimate midfielder for us. A goal scoring CM is a rarity these days. King's footballing talent would stand compare with most any Premiership midfielder in terms of his fast passing accuracy, ability to find a little space under pressure, calmness in every situation, defensive heading, ability to sniff out a goal and so on. He's also durable in that he doesn't get injured much and temporarily reliable and therefore not prone to giving away daft free kicks or penalties. Where he seems to struggle a bit is as an athlete in that he's a bit one paced and that pace is never much more than medium. and, while perfectly capable of playing longer, riskier passes, his instinct is usually to take the quickest, simplest option and make it work. I also feel he struggles a bit if he plays too many games in quick succession because he does cover a lot of ground (steadily) and that might end up putting pressure on the achilles which has given him bother in the past. But game for game I'd always back him to score more often than Drinky. King is quite a ruthless finisher, hitting the target quite regularly from a given number of opportunities and steering shots into the net if that's all it takes. Drinkwater tends to hammer the ball, rather than placing his strikes and consequently too many efforts fly a bit wide or a bit high. If Drinky can improve his shots-on-target ratio - and there's no technical reason why he shouldn't, then he could end up an even better player whereas don't think Kingy can change a lot unless he can slot into a role which means a little less running and allows him to be a bit sharper as a finisher in which case he could return to his days of collecting 10-goals plus per season.
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 24 May 2016 Posted 24 May 2016 Are you getting him confused with GTF? What a pairing that was
sphericalfox Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 http://news.sky.com/story/drinkwater-keen-on-a-future-with-leicester-10503336 "I am not going chasing the club," said Drinkwater. "It is up to them to approach me. I would love to commit but I just want to play football. "I still have two years left on my contract so it is not a be all and end all if I don't sign a new one in the next few weeks. "I'm still under contract so I can't really say too much but I'm a Leicester City player at the minute. It's up to them how they handle it. "Arsenal are a massive club and a club a lot of people would love to play for so 'Vards' committing his future to Leicester must put the club in a good light." Cheeky
MPH Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 http://news.sky.com/story/drinkwater-keen-on-a-future-with-leicester-10503336 Cheeky Can't blame him. When you give someone a huge deal like vardy, it's going to cause sideways glances from the others...
Ashley Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Posted about Arsenal the other day on here. Been sniffing around Drinkwater for a while now.
dylanlegend Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 This is the major problem now for LCFC. Potentially we could give DD, Morgan, kasper, Vardy all new big contract, but to be fair without Kante and Mahrez we don't really know how we are gonna perform. Imagine having to pay all those wages in the championship, it would **** us up. What we need to do is insert some relegation clauses which include reduced wages of we go down
lgfualol Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Next one to leave after we offer him 2k a week extra
