I think Hodgson is being misinterpreted on the 'systems win you nothing quote'.

Think what he is trying to say is that you can have the best system in the world and still win nothing if your players are shite.

Conversely I'd cite Pep Guardiola. Everyone raves about him but with the players he's had in the league's he's won I reckon he could flip a coin on what formation to play then use a random number generator to pick his side and it wouldn't really matter. Looking forward to seeing how he copes over here.

I'd say it's to cover up for the way he hasn't actually got a clue what he's going to do in France.

To say that after Leicester City have just won the Premier League is also baffling.

And after Greece won the Euros. And Denmark.

And Turkey and South Korea could make the latter stages of World Cups.

A system, and people knowing their jobs can go a LONG way.

crikey let's hope you're even half right. it reads to me that he is going to play rooney, his 3 favourite centre mids, kane and probably milner and not give a shit about a formation because systems don't matter, if we have 11 good players playing anywhere we've won the World Cup.

His other contradictions as well all seem to conveniently fall into line of the big clubs time and time again.

Scott Dann could have the two seasons of his life in the next two years, if he stays at Palace he won't be going to Russia.

Absolutely convinced it's political. Hodgson's churning out this bullshit as the face of the ugly system. The FA would never have the balls to go with an innovator or someone who wants to make a positive difference.

How the **** is Henderson got better qualitys than Drinkwater, every time I hear the clown the more I think he generally has lost it.

What exactly as he lost? As far as i can see,he never had it to begin with, shit manager.

I genuinely believe if football fans voted in a manager every 3 years we'd get the politics out of it and the FA would have some credibility.

Managers put their names forward for a five million salary and we see where the chips fall.

I'd genuinely rather have Steve Bruce or Big Sam.

There, I said it..

But the risk is sponsors might pull out of supporting England.

Not looking forward to euros now.... honestly think he has blew it by that selection. I reckon he only took vards incase of backlash.

What's the betting he put his arm round Danny to tell him the bad news and said

"Now if you pwayed for wone of the big 4 I'd have took you, see if you can get a move in the summer,"

"Or I'll carrying on picking players who finished 8th in the league and played less than 90mins all season. They are a big club son.. i dont give a shit if leicester win the league by 10pts, go play for spurs, then youre nailed on son.. even though they somehow managed to come 3rd in a 2 horse race, big club you see, that young big black lad.... only played a few games, but he's man u u? Well you ain't son. Try the bench at arsenal, play 30odd mins all season win **** all, the plane tickets you're lad, but leicester? Nah chance"

You've not been given the credit you deserve for this.

England were an embarrassing shambles in the last World Cup and Woy didn't get sacked.

People now have such low expectations regarding England that getting out of the group is deemed fairly successful!

I feel for the fans who pay good money to support such shambles.

I'd love to see this happen, sadly we won't. But still its a wonderful idea. England need an expert tactician to coach the national side which means we need a foreign manager, I'd vote for Marcelo Bielsa.

Vardy's involvement is literally the only reason I have an interest in England.

If it wasn't for Vardy's involvement I wouldn't really give a fuck.

I can't support England with that prick in charge, i'm almost done with them while he's the manager.

Thing is even with Vardy playing we all know he's gonna be played out of position anyway, so what's the point?!

When the tournament starts I might change my tune (When it's an excuse to go to the pub, the beer might start talking) but I have as much interest in England as I do Wales, France, Austria - The link, Leicester players. My passion for England is currently 0.

Part of me wouldn't mind England being knocked out in the group stages, on Vardy's part i'd be disappointed for him, but hopefully a dismal, embarrasing group KO would be a huge nail in Woy's coffin. :fc:

Pretty much exactly how I feel buddy

Always patriotic about my country but that said this shambles of an England manager is making me question any support for a team full of "big club players" I have no affinity with

Eddie Howe for England manager please or someone at least who will not do the same old same old routine

When Hodgson said "it's last in first out" or words to that effect re Drinky it really loses him any credibility whatsoever

He is a fvcking moron

Him or Sampaoli. Given up on having an English manager. The choices aren't good enough. We need someone who'll come in and really stamp their mark on the side, someone with a vision for the future, but we just wouldn't ever do it.

Agreed. England, are well off my radar. Hodgson is like those before him, with no foresight, imagination, or faith, with players in form. The total opposite of our Claudio.

Was chatting with our kid last night.

If you look on paper, probably only France, Germany and Belgium have stronger squads than we do. Therefore, we should be looking at making the semis. We agreed that anything less than this should be seen as us failing again.

You somehow know it's not going to go like that though. Some nation will surprise and do really well (I have a sneaky feeling for Republic of Ireland personally). And it will be no shock if we somehow contrive to fook it up again. I wish I did but I have so little faith in Hodgson motivating them and getting the tactical side of things right.

Srsly?

Spain have a great defence quality in midfield I am admittedly a little surprised at their forward line but it's a gamble that could pay off, defo better xi and 23 than us.

New manager would probably mean some moron like Gary Neville or Southgate anyway

Hi Fellas

I'm a Manchester City fan, and just thought I'd put a view across, as this thread feels like Deja Vu.

Firstly, while I'm in no way defending him, I don't think it's Hodgson who's the problem, it's the whole England set up. Sure he's the manager and should be picking players on merit, but successive England managers over the years have done the same. They seem to be under orders to pick players from MU Liverpool and Arse, then just fill in the gaps afterwards.

If you had Pele, Maradonna, both Ronaldos and Messi playing for you, and they were all English and in their prime, Wooney, Wilshere and Henderson would still be picked in preference.

It's like jobs for the boys, much as Eton and Oxbridge gets you a job as a tory.

This has been going on as long as I can remember, and TBH, I just can't be arsed with international football anymore, as it just never seems to change.

I imagine WH are feeling pretty much the same about Noble.

Anyway, congrats on the title, and good luck in the CL.

(mind you, even if you beat barca 10-0 in the final, they'll still pick Wooney and co)

So lets say for arguments sake, Leicester won the league next season, say West Ham finished 4th,Spurs somewhere in top 4,Man Utd 5th again, Liverpool 6th or 7th just for the purpose of illustration.

When does the so called "big team" cease being a "big team" and the smaller teams recognised for their good players?
