bridport007 Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 I don't get the people who are saying Drinkwater hasn't done enough to be picked. He's played 2 games for England, 1 of which he was man of the match. And the other played out of position.
Heymister2015 Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Looking at the criteria I think Marty James fits into England better then Danny! He's done as much as Henderson and wilshere
filbertway Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 To not take a single recognised winger in the 23 is an astonishing decision IMHO. I'm gutted for DD but you could argue the decision to leave out an in-form Andros Townsend is a bigger decision. Genuinely hope Roy makes us doubters look like absolute twats though. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Sterling is in the squad right? I agree though, considering he seems to love 4 2 3 1 you would expect a minimum of 2 wingers. Like real wingers. Not rashford/vardy/milner/lallana. Players that he seems to think are wingers but end being pretty ineffective.
1972 Fox Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Am I the only one who doesn't get the Dier bumming? I don't see anything he does that Drinkwater doesn't? Other than cover centre back, which quite frankly shouldn't be a reason for selection. No you are definitely not the only one.No he's only in because he's a Spurs player, if drinkwater played for them and dier for us drinkwater would be going instead of him.And this is the main worry for me. The bias towards the players that play for the so called 'big clubs' is shocking. The team that wins the Premier League by 10 points and has the best English central midfield player during the season only has one player picked for the squad. Whereas the 'bigger clubs' that couldn't live with us have their half fit or out of form players picked. My concern is that players such as Drinkwater and others at Leicester might want to move to one of these 'big clubs' to enhance their chances of being picked for England.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Just reading around on what people think to the selection and it seems a lot even none Leicester fans aren't too pleased with drinkwater not being there. Especially giving the form and injuries of the other midfielders
Carl the Llama Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Legit thought he'd made himself undroppable with this season just gone. How naive I was.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Legit thought he'd made himself undroppable with this season just gone. How naive I was. I'm surprised he was dropped but then I realised it is Hodgson who is the manager and I'm no longer surprised. Roy just consistently unsurprises me with his bonkers decisions...
Socks Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 even if Woy had to push Sturridge out in France on a wheelchair he would, rather than take someone who could walk themselves, that's his mentality. Its not just us he's pissed of, I'm reading a lot of similar comments from other footie bods too

Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk It's a very unbalanced squad, and while dropping dd is a poor choice, only having 3 CB's and leaving out the only genuine winger could prove more costly.
AjcW Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Whilst this has calmed down a bit people might have missed my post earlier but the BBC had a quote from Roy saying Drinky missed out to Rashford... Because Rooney can play midfield. That's the sort of decisions were talking about here, not Wilshere or Henderson, but Drinkwater being left out for a striker that the squad didn't actually need it's just laughable, and that should be the end of the debate to be honest.
Babylon Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 I think the biggest problem is were basically rubbish. Whoevers in charge, whatever formation we play. Eriksson- Yeah hes rubbish McLaren- Yeah hes rubbish Capello- Yeah hes rubbish Hodgson- Yeah hes rubbish In short, everything associated with England has been rubbish pretty much forever. The issue is, we are incapable of admitting we're a second rate nation. If we put someone in charge who accepted we are, and actually came up with a game plan that played to our strengths and minimised our weaknesses, the we might stand a chance. Rather than thinking "we're england, we'll outplay you" with Llalana showing a few nice foreign like touches and then losing it for the 500th time. It's clear as day the defence is shite, so what do we do. Overload the team with attacking players and half a dozen who want to play 10, but barely anyone to protect the defence and a formation that's going to leave more holes at the back than a really bloody holey thing.
sdb Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Had a hunch this would happen. Disgraceful really. Rank those 26 players in order over the last year and Drinky is probably top 5...yet he can't get in the final 23?! Such a shame but no surprise. Hard to care about this side, it is a complete joke. No other national side would do it. France saw Kante couldn't be left, and look who they have in that position! We have Barkley, Wilshere, Lallana and Rooney. Shambles.
easilee Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 I bet Inler wishes he had a Twát of a manager like we do! Edit: International manager (Sorry Don Ranieri)
steflcfc Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Everyone pretty much sums up the same feelings for the selection of the England squad. God knows what Roy and his backroom staff judge the players on but FORM is certainly NOT one of them. We are miles away from the leading nations, and always will be whilst we continue to pick players On name rather than how they have played for their club. The only 2 MF worthy of their place is Alli and Dier. Other than that the rest are a waste of a starting spot. Most have failed at international level before and have had very average seasons to say the least!! Rashford....way too early for him, I hope the media hype on him doesn't ruin the early starting of a promising career. Sturridge....embarrassing,not fit and says it all about our current set up. The physios will be busy this summer with him hendo and wilshere!! The FA and Roy need a massive overhaul as somethings deffo going on behind the scenes of our FA to allow some of these decisions to happen. It's all about the £££.

So DD doesn't go because we are taking a young kid to cover a striker who we don't need and is a crock ??? But we don't need 5 strikers in the first place???? and we have no recognised specialised holding midfielder cover for our only holding midfielder who is only cover for 3 centre backs. Now I'm confused ...........
Vlad the Fox Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Not suprised by the selection, you just knew Roy was doing his best to get his favourites in regardless of fitness or form. Again in a tournament we'll look lacklustre and short of ideas, something a few new faces could have shook up. As for rashford, the lad as potential but he's barely played and looked out of his depth against asutralia. They'll end up ruining him.

wokinghamfox Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Sorry but i think DD would have gone had he been either Man U, Arsenal or Man City player. For fecks sake why does he not pick on form. This has angered me so much I want to ring Hodgsons neck.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Rather Danny didn't go than warmed the bench for a month, tbh. We look light on DMC's tho, if he plays Wheelchair there we will get ripped to pieces by the better sides. I'm supporting us more in hope than expectation, as usual.
katieakita Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Totally clueless, FA might as well dump Hodgson and let the Media pick the team as they have picked the squad for him. To go with so many players half fit or badly out of form is a massive gamble. We have full backs who cannot defend and only 3 central defenders with one having injections to play and one unable to play 90 minutes without gifting at least one clear cut chance to the opposition. Haven't a problem with Eric Dier but he needed to be going along with DD, defensively Dier is strong but he is not going to make a killer pass like DD. We have full backs who are better going forward than defending do logically you need 2 holding midfielders to cover and look after our weakness at the back. We have so many half fit and out of form players it is untrue, we need to play 6 games in around 3 weeks, some of these players haven't ,managed 6 games all season.
dylanlegend Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 If we managed to win the euros it would still be incredible, we need to support our boys! It's annoying they have picked players like Henderson and Wheelchair over DD but at the end of the day West Ham fans go through this every year ( Noble and Cresswell? Milner / Bertrand!?) just remember our Vards can fire us to glory!! Come on our lions!

None of this common sense stuff will ever happen while we are going unbeaten against Lithuania, Andorra and Narnia in the qualifiers. Sigh...
