dylanlegend Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 I still think DD will go. There is no way Wheelchair or Henderbore will come theough more than 2 training sessions without picking up a career threatening injury.

Tuna Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Shearer not impressed by Drinkwater snub. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3618633/England-squad-selected-reputation-fitness-form-says-former-captain-Alan-Shearer-criticises-Danny-Drinkwater-snub-ahead-Euro-2016.html
Dan Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 You know what, I'm normally well up for ranting about this, but I'm just gonna sit back and let scousefox do mine for now, I'm going to run out of rep points for him alone. I'm not actively going to want England to lose but I'm not going to pretend I'm gutted when we do, because I won't be, I'll feel a hint of karma about it. They deserve to fail. They fail, they don't change, they fail again - why does that mentality deserve to succeed?
katieakita Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 If we managed to win the euros it would still be incredible, we need to support our boys! It's annoying they have picked players like Henderson and Wheelchair over DD but at the end of the day West Ham fans go through this every year ( Noble and Cresswell? Milner / Bertrand!?) just remember our Vards can fire us to glory!! Come on our lions! You assuming Vardy will play, or will he play him out of position just so he can drop him for not performing. The balance of the squad is awful with us hoping that half the squad find form or fitness within a couple of weeks just madness, not brave but stupid.
Larry_LCFC Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Atleast Shearer talks some bloody sense. Even he'd do a better job.
Leicesterpool Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 In recent times when it comes to England call ups, we never get it right. We've not had a decent England squad since Euro 2004. As I've said before it's not the problem of having players it's just we're not taking our best players. Too many players get in the squad who are not physically fit or even good enough but play for the right club. I remember Hodgson for a while kept picking Cleverley yet as everyone was saying, he just was not good enough soon as he left Man Utd he never got a call up again. So what does that tell yer?

Saxondale Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Same old s hit basically. Why did I even hope for anything different? Proof that it's just about which faces fit. Or that the squad is actually picked by Nike or Vauxhall or some insurance company or whatever.
shailen Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Absolute joke. The fact that Henderson, Lallana, Dier and Wilshere go ahead of him is laughable. The stats prove how good he's been, and to leave him out is scandalous. He has played well in an England shirt and certainly should be seen as more of a definite selection than Henderson who is injured or has just come back.
smr Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Never in my life have I agreed with Alan Shearer more. Wow.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 I want a journalist with balls, who enjoys putting league managers under interview pressure, come up with some hard questions on why hes taking unproved not match fit players. Like Sturridge, Wilshere, Henderson. Why totally out of form players like Barkley and Sterling get the nod over players like Drinkwater a Pl title winner who can feed both Kane and Vardy, Townsend who when in an England shirt was the monkey you wanted to be fed, and has found his form. Why Noble never got a look in. How Sterling whos never turned up in an English shirt gets automatic choice. Why Milner jumps in front of good young players. Why try and play a proven central striker on the wing and not pair ,the 2 best English strikers automatically together... Then with our defence problems I just might of accepted Carrick (no I dont like him) in the squad for his experience and cover for CB.. Why have the PL champions been pushed to the side to accomodate others who couldnt manage even a top 4 place... Yes where are those arrogant 'do or dare journalists' now..!!! Where are plans ABC coming from, why cant a top international manager think any further than Rashford. Where are the naughty ' dog gnawing at a bone' press boys now.. Why no questions n answers interviews Fantastic post mate, couldn't agree more.
Buzzell Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Reputation over form. It's always been the problem when it comes to selecting an England side. It's the England way.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Same shit, different tournament... When will our managers learn from history? We have seen it time and time again. The earliest version I can remember was Bryan Robson, anyone else go further back?
foxile5 Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Unbelievable. I just can't see the thinking behind it. I would ask 'what does Danny have to do?' but the answer to that question is all too sadly obvious.
Jattdogg Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Unbelievable. I just can't see the thinking behind it. I would ask 'what does Danny have to do?' but the answer to that question is all too sadly obvious. Sadly even knee pads have to be associated with "stars" to be picked
foxile5 Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Vardy at 11 is indicative of his squad role, I fear. Kane up top Vardy out wide. Illusion of width and wasting a damned good striker.
Candidcamera Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Abysmal decision. Obviously only called him up to let him down and take unfit players who haven't proved their fitness. Same with Townsend. Danny could have been on his well deserved holidays sooner. Will regret it Roy. I agee about Vardy he won't get a place and no one will make the passes he needs.
st albans fox Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Same shit, different tournament... When will our managers learn from history? We have seen it time and time again. The earliest version I can remember was Bryan Robson, anyone else go further back? Brooking and Keegan in '82
MrLuke Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Same shit, different tournament... When will our managers learn from history? We have seen it time and time again. The earliest version I can remember was Bryan Robson, anyone else go further back? Exactly. I've no faith in the selection process, it'll always be a case of big club biase and I can't see that changing any time soon. I don't know whether it is the media or the sponsors who force hodgson's hand with some of these selections but to be honest I'm past caring. I can't help but feel that this is one of the down sides of the Premier League. Since its inception it seems to be that all other football tournaments are secondary, the FA cup isn't what it used to be, the league cup is a joke and people just expect England to make early exits from international tournaments (though to be fair I guess this has been going on for a LONG time). Sorry, I'm going off on one. To summarise, Hodgson is a dick for taking a team lacking any defensive quality and a lightweight, injury prone midfield. The plus side is Drinks gets a well earned rest and hopefully will be fired up for next season ready to prove a point.
Ric Flair Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Apparently him and Townsend aren't even on the standby list Hahahaa fcuk off, no way?
st albans fox Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Hahahaa fcuk off, no way? clearly Roy doesn't feel that midfield and out wide needs any extra cover and would rather take 22. Can be sure that there is a centre back somewhere who is on standby. As is a left back.
1972 Fox Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Apparently him and Townsend aren't even on the standby list Do you have a link to the standby list please? I can't find it.
kushiro Posted 1 June 2016 Posted 1 June 2016 Brooking and Keegan in '82 You beat me to it! Those two were so good (in combination especially) that it was probably worth having them in the squad for the later stages when they got fit. In the end, when they came on in the 5th match they missed the two big chances, right? Ah - here's the clip.
