StanSP Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 So Vardy had 9 touches. 'we played with split strikers....basically speaking their job is to split and come together' is it just me or does that make no bleeding sense at all?!
RowlattsFox Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 So basically vardy and Kane were supposed to play in two positions. If you're going to play the diamond you need to trust your full backs defend, and the cover should come from the wider midfielders. You don't have your strikers out wide and then 4 central midfielders. How many times were Ali and Vardy in the same position? We effectively played with no strikers yet has 3 in the pitch. I'd rather we just played Lallana and sterling out wide, at least they'd be relatively comfortable with their position.
Tuna Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Woy will be delighted that he sucked the life out of Vardy and delivered a bad performance because he'll be able to drop him in favour of Rooney for the Russia game despite the fact he is ruining the national side.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Woy will be delighted that he sucked the life out of Vardy and delivered a bad performance because he'll be able to drop him in favour of Rooney for the Russia game despite the fact he is ruining the national side. He's not just sucked the life out of Vardy, he's sucking the life out of the whole bloody nation! I don't want to dislike or "hate" anyone but I am really struggling when it comes to Woy. His squad selection, team selection and systems are confusing at best and bloody bizarre. I honestly believe we have a great pool of players to choose from and a system that appeared to work second half against Germany, yet for some reason he is reluctant to use it. Woy can hold on to the fact that he isn't the only manager to do this though. How many times did we have to watch Gerrard, Lampard of Scholes playing left wing? We (Leicester City) have proven this season that the best team can win things and not the best individuals. Woy seems to be following the LVG style of management and the sooner he goes the better. I genuinely believe Wales will finish above us in the group and that is because they will pick the best team and the best players in their respective positions. I'd honestly rather have Vardy on the bench than watch him run about aimlessly for 90 minutes because it won't take long before he becomes some kind of scapegoat....I mean he had 9 touches last night!! Usually I am buzzing for a tournament and I grasp onto slight hope that we could actually do something. Last night was an opportunity to grip a nation and instil some excitement pre-tournament, against a team higher ranked (I believe) and whom to non-football fans are a good scalp to take. Sadly, football won't be coming home this summer nor any summer with this dinosaur in charge. I really hope I am proven wrong..
Leicesterpool Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 I've been going across one or two other teams forums and a little give a bit of stick to Vardy, claiming he's not international quality! he's scored three out of his last four!. Vardy is being misused under this idiot and this why Vardy he isn't as dangerous as his for Leicester, though last night I think there were many others or were even worse on the field. I didn't think Kane was much good last night, everyone's favourite as it seems.
ClaphamFox Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Germany lost 3-1 at home to Slovakia the other night, so iI'm not sure we can even take much pride from beating them. We know Germany will turn up when it matters though, like they almost always do, and like we never do. On the formation, for me the fact that Rooney was so deep suggests a diamond. If it was 433 you'd have your central striker at least as advanced and usually more advanced than your two wide forwards. But whatever it was meant to be, it ended up as a shambles. I don't think Roy Hodgson knows. The man has lost his mind. He's in his 80's now isn't he? Well into his 80's now I think, and he's not all there anymore. We should do him and us a favour and let him go now. Can't tell whether you're joking or not, but he's 68
steflcfc Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 When I seen the initial line up I though, just what we needed Rooney in the hole and vardy and kane up front. How wrong was I. Tactics and formation were totally wrong by Roy. He should have seen this after 20 mins but no he carries on. Right players wrong system. Hoddle said when sterling to come on that we needed pace.....we had pace on the pitch but Roy wasn't utilising what he has to get the best out of our players. That formation was to accommodate Rooney, and it didn't work. Vardy and Kane upfront is So obvious, we can all see it but Roy can't. Even Rashford gets a start upfront. Playing a 50 goal strike force on the wings....tactical genius!! Sooner were put out our misery and Roy gets the chop the better.
foxy boxing Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 woy isn't interested in setting the team up for quick attacking football,he is a caution first manager who wants slow build up play and to stiffle the opposition.playing that way dosen't suit vardys strengths.but roy just wants rooney in the team even though he contributes very little nowadaysits dull tergid football but woy clearly believes that it will be effective for him.with roy its not about winning its about not losing

foxy boxing Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 roy wants players in the team that can play a number of different positions like dier for example who can also play centre back even though he is rubbish at it or rooney who can drop into midfield with vardy if he isn't playing upfront then he just won't be effective what woy wants is players who are good at all trades but a master at none of them
MrSpaM Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Absolutely scathing review of the match on the bbc web site this morning Basically saying Roy hasn't got a clue what he's doing http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36441260
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Hmmmm, Roy.... We played with split strikers," Hodgson said. "When you play with that system, you need your strikers to split. "If you play with them going down the middle and Rooney in behind them, you would never be able to defend the wide areas. "There were moments in the game where they were too wide, but basically speaking their job is to split and come together." That's not how you defend with a diamond, otherwise you lose all the point in having the diamond. The strikers are supposed to split at times when attacking to leave the defence with a problem with an on rushing - but when defending, the tip of the diamond moves back into the midfield to make it a 3, enabling it to shuffle across to wide areas - the strikers then can work as a pair across the back line. The formation is difficult to pull off as it is, without coaching it wrong - bloody hell Roy! Out of interest - when Sven played the diamond, did the strikers split like that when defending much?

I just can't fathom why Hodgson is the ONLY person who can't see what the problem is...

When Sven played the diamond, the strikers didn't have to defend. Very similar to when we played the diamond against Turkey and Germany, he strikers didn't defend then either. Last night was so obviously not a diamond. 4-3-3 with Rooney in the centre with a free role with Kane and Vardy either side of him.
Rincewind Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Never saw the game or the result but from the comments 0-0?
AKCJ Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Never saw the game or the result but from the comments 0-0? It was the poxiest 1-0 win of all time.
Rincewind Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 It was the poxiest 1-0 win of all time. Yeah just gone back a couple of pages. from what I am reading the TV channels will be fighting over the England games not to show.
Dodgy Bob Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 Absolutely scathing review of the match on the bbc web site this morning Basically saying Roy hasn't got a clue what he's doing http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36441260 It's about time as well. The media have been incredibly generous towards Hodgson throughout this farcical last few weeks. Maybe it's a case of once bitten twice shy and them not wanting to make bald statements after Leicester and Ranieri showed them all up as clueless, but the failure of Hodgson is so blindingly obvious now that they can't ignore it.
Parafox Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 My wife has given me permission (!) to go to the pub when England play in the competition. I'm gonna make sure it's a pub without a TV.
Footballwipe Posted 3 June 2016 Posted 3 June 2016 The last two pages have literally been an argument about whether it was a diamond or 4-3-3. What a way to ruin the thread. Can you set up a dedicated one in this forum so you don't repeat it next Saturday please

WigstonWanderer Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 We've been incredibly spoilt watching Leicester this season. Sure, City can be untidy at times, but almost every game has included periods of absolutely thrilling play. That was just a total snooze fest - a waste of time watching. There were times during the second half, with the ball moving like a pendulum, passed from side to side in the middle of the pitch, that I could easily have nodded off. All I could think was how good Claudio is compared to Hodgson.
