foxes161 Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Michael Keane isn't "Championship level talent". He's progressed into a very good centre half. until he proves he can do it in the premier league he is still championship level talent.
Stadt Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 until he proves he can do it in the premier league he is still championship level talent. Wrong
foxes161 Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Wrong how so? Many players have looked great in the championship but were trash when it came to the premier league.
Babylon Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 lets not use our season as the norm here. It's not that simple. Just because Leicester players did it doesn't mean other players will As I said with champions league to come you can't spend 12 million on championship level talent Yeah, let's totally ignore the facts. Let's pretend we haven't signed loads of players who were unfancied or from the lower leagues with talent and given them a platform to show it.Let's totally ignore our lauded scouting setup and its ability in finding rough diamonds, because foxes161 thinks you can only sign ready made players from big leagues. Since when does being in the chsmpions league mean you can only shop in certain places? Should we send Vardy back to non league. Should Spurs send Alli back to league two because they came from crappy leagues.
AKCJ Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 until he proves he can do it in the premier league he is still championship level talent. alright then.
foxes161 Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Yeah, let's totally ignore the facts. Sure you find players who are unknown who become great players but it is hardly the norm We have champions league this year. This isn't the year to find young talent who might become good. We need proven players added to the players we already have otherwise we will get embarrassed
Dr The Singh Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Yeah, let's totally ignore the facts. Stadt Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 how so? Many players have looked great in the championship but were trash when it came to the premier league. Plenty have but you can't say a player isn't premier league level because they've not proved themselves in it (apologies for being so flippant)
foxes161 Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Plenty have but you can't say a player isn't premier league level because they've not proved themselves in it (apologies for being so flippant) sure you can, until they prove it how do you know they can make that step up?He might well can but right now who knows
Webbo Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 You'd surely look at the basics of his game, pace, reading of the game, passing, athleticism and potential to improve and then decide if he could make the step up. They might prove to be wrong, but they're not idiots, they've got a fair idea of what they're doing.
Stadt Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 sure you can, until they prove it how do you know they can make that step up? He might well can but right now who knows Obviously this is a stretch but Messi isn't premier league quality because he's not proven himself in the league?
foxes161 Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Obviously this is a stretch but Messi isn't premier league quality because he's not proven himself in the league?what a stupid comparison.Does messi play in a lower league? The point wasn't just the PL but anytime you step up from lower league to a premier league.
Babylon Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 you need to stop thinking finding players like that is the norm in football these days. That simply isn't the case. Sure you find players who are unknown who become great players but it is hardly the norm We have champions league this year. This isn't the year to find young talent who might become good. We need proven players added to the players we already have otherwise we will get embarrassed Yeah soooo embarrassing being in the champions league and losing games. Well no it's not is it, it's expected. Man U getting beaten by crap teams and going out is embarrassing, not us.It has been the norm for us for years now. No it doesn't happen all the time, but it can still happen and he might be one of them. We aren't going to just buy him, we'll continue to follow exactly the same blueprint we have done for years. Some British, some foreign, some young, some experienced. We've just signed a World Cup winner as back up ffs. We're not just going to buy chsmpionship players. But we will continue to sign young talent... Like Gray, like Amertey, like Kramaric. Some will work, some won't... But just giving up buying young talent and sneering at the leagues they come from is ridiculous.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Looking positively, I know it's slightly different circumstances but Everton bought potential in John Stones from Barnsley, and now he's a regular CB in the Everton starting line up. If we sign either/both of Dunk or Keane, It'd be an excellent step in their careers because of the level of coaching they would get here. Having a calibre of manager in Ranieri talking to them, giving them tips, would be inspiring for them both listening to a man who has managed in the Champions League, won several titles in Europe and has now won a top level English title. I think Dunk and Keane would really progress here, they would be around a quality squad, learning off our current defenders. If we look at Gray for instance, he's young at the moment but you're buying potential, potential to become a future star in the top flight (in which he will be for me). Fair enough, there's no guarantee with any signings, but you'd be investing in two talented CB's who could establish themselves as proper good CB's at the PL level.

Aus Fox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Players need to be given a chance a t a higher level, it's seems to be now they have To come from some European league to be classed as good enough. Who thought Morgan, Simpson, Drinkwater and Vardy could be premier league winners? What about Smalling, Hart, Clyne, Walker, Alli etc. Most of England's Euro 2016 squad have experienced playing in the championship or below prior to being given a chance to step up and prove themselves as "premier League players"
Babylon Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Point is you can't just expect them to pan out certainly not when you are spending 12-15 million. And you can't just expect them not to either, you don't just stop signing young talent because they might not work out. That's exactly why we have a talented bunch of well paid scouts to pick them.., they aren't just sticking a pin in loads of names.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Point is you can't just expect them to pan out certainly not when you are spending 12-15 million. Sounds like the sort of player you want, with Champions League / top flight experience would be in the region of £15-20 million, with wages in a similar bracket and would be an almost mandatory starter. The thing with picking talent that you think that can step up a level is that you don't pay the 'proven premium'.
dylanlegend Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 One of the most promising young English centre backs. Keane is a future England international. (Or Scotland / Wales if he turns out to be sh*t)
Koke Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Point is you can't just expect them to pan out certainly not when you are spending 12-15 million. British players are way overpriced. Spending a combined £42m on Deeney and Keane is pure insanity. I get dizzy just thinking of these prices. I'll happily take Keane, Dunk, Deeney etc but these astronomical figures are making me uncomfortable. I can't wait for us to buy Lewis Dunk and then sell him to Chelsea for a £2.50 bus fare ticket release clause.
MPH Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 sure you can, until they prove it how do you know they can make that step up? He might well can but right now who knows And so if you turn the coin over, given OUR history in the transfer market, how can you be so sure he isn't good enough?
lancyclaret Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Stoke had a £7 million bid for Keane rejected in January (when Burnley were quite a way off the promotion pace)....according to Oatcake (Stoke forum) and they say Mark Hughes is still VERY keen on Kean, especially with Shawcross injury concerns. Everton have also been strongly linked if Stones is sold but they might be aiming higher now Koeman has replaced Martinez. It will be interesting to see if there is a bidding war. Anyway, Ben Mee was Burnley's best central defender last season - after we switched Mee from left-back, we went 23 undefeated (16 wins, 7 draws, just 12 goals conceded). Evidence was that Mee was voted "Players' Player of Year"...Barton won "Fans' Player of Year".
Perseus Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Was a decent threat from set pieces if I recall but that was about it. He should stay at Burnley for the time being, see if he can cut it in the Prem, at least he will be a guaranteed starter if he stays there and has a chance to progress more. Burnley fans are adamnant that Keane is better than Dunk. I don't think so, although Keane's temperament is more like expected of a defender. Dunk is more exciting to watch. He might be more prone to errors. I do not know if the draw of European football is enough for either of them to leave if a bid is made? A club has already made a firm bid for Dunk (club not revealed), but it falls below the Brighton valuation (release clause?) so it was automatically rejected.
