Agree sm1, Van Dijk was one of the best defenders we played against last season. But like you said not sure how much he would potentially cost.

It would probably make the Troy Deeney bid look like chump change.

And you've probably hit the nail on the head as to the problem with bidding near on 30 million for Deeney - the message it will send out to others for other players we are interested in..

Yeah I'd rather we went £25m on Van Dijk and £15m on a striker target, given we already have 3 (hopefully) good'uns.

Is this what happens now we're really rich? The PL should have done us a favour and given us half our Premier League earnings from last season.

Has Sven been reappointed or something? £30mil for Deeney? £10mil for Keane? £7mil for Dunk? I trust Walsh but seriously Wtf? This doesn't feel like usual Walsh at all.

He scouts them .. Someone else puts a price tag on.

Indeed... Makes you wonder if Pearson was the man who said "enough" when it can to player prices. He did preach value a lot, and we seem to be straying from that a bit.

Not many transfers gone through yet to know if it's going to be like this for everyone with the new cash around.

If we're bidding silly money for Deeney, we can't be too surprised that Burnley are holding out for more money.

I doubt Burnley are holding out for more money.  We have a good record of not selling players that we want to keep - eg. Danny Ings two years ago - in order to improve our chances of staying up.  If Keane stays at Burnley, and plays a full season in the Prmier League, and plays well, then (with the current shortage of quality centre halves) he'll be in the England squad.  Remember they haven't even got a fourth centre half in France.  So the plan is to keep Keane, stay up, and if it doesn't work, sell next year when he's worth more.  Come back then.

He's under contract for two more years.

I take your point as all clubs want to keep their best players, but you need to factor in the players wishes along with wage structures, etc. I'm sure Keane would find it very hard to turn down the potential opportunity to play Champions League football, and realistically do you think Dyche would be prepared to smash the wage structure at the club and potentially rock the boat amongst the group just to keep Keane? Also don't forget that the majority of the players were here when he was on loan with us in the Championship so I'm pretty sure he'll have friends within the City camp that will be sharing their experiences of the club with him so maybe he or his agent have already expressed a desire to move on and it's now a situation whereby it's damage limitation for Burnley.

Mate. We've just had 3 players win the league who couldn't get in the England squad. No chance in hell will Keane get in the England squad next year unless he moves to Liverpool or Spurs, it's the big clubs' Bullingdon Club under Hodgson.

You're living in a fantasy world if you think any Burnley players are getting in the England squad any time soon. I'm not knocking Burnley - I'm saying Hodgson and/or the FA pick from no-one but the big clubs until they would look like cretins not to, as in the case of Vardy. If the PL champs, and clubs as big as West Ham have their players overlooked, then you've got to say it doesn't look good unless something changes drastically.

Errrrm.... anyone want to point out the glaring issue here. :D

(You might want to take a look at the current England squad). :cap:

Two years left on the contract is about the tipping point when the whip hand belongs to the player. If the player wants a move and is refused it he generally won't sign another contract and this time next season they have 12 months left and his club are left with a decision of:

1) Offering him really big wages so he signs

2) Seling him on the cheap to recoup some money

3) Letting his contract run out
