tom27111 Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 With the English FA? Probably. Ah shit. I forgot about that. Fair point!
Oxfordfox83 Posted 27 June 2016 Author Posted 27 June 2016 We qualified from the easiest qualification group in history. We were drawn in a fabulously easy finals group which we didn't win. We never dominated a team, we never created chances at will, we relied on mistakes and scraps. It was horrible. McLaren at least lost to Croatia who were a half decent team. This was horrific. We weren't unlucky-Iceland deserved it, and that's a terrible badge of shame.
ScouseFox Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 i mean obviously cos it was literlly an hour ago you all think this but steve mcclaren didnt even qualify and took us to andorra and we only just scraped a win. capello struggled against andorra then struggled in a pathetic world cup group then got battered too. deffo better than both them
Donut Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 McLaren was worse Hodgson has achieved the worst result though
Vacamion Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 He took Ross Barkley, Jack Wilshere, Jordan Henderson, Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling to the tournament. They were all either horribly out of form or injured, or not proven in their positions. He left behind Antoinio, Drinkwater, Noble, Townsend, Albrighton and Ward-Prowse. Jeebus.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 Looking at the past England managers for 50 years, I have honestly got to say that they have been pretty terrible appointments even at the time. Get Pellegrini in... I think he could do a job He took Ross Barkley, Jack Wilshere, Jordan Henderson, Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling to the tournament. They were all either horribly out of form or injured, or not proven in their positions. He left behind Antoinio, Drinkwater, Noble, Townsend, Albrighton and Ward-Prowse. Jeebus. You look at that list he left behind and say wow...
Kitchandro Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 If he's not already handed in his resignation then he's a coward. He's actually still a coward for refusing to face questions. It was insulting enough when he didn't resign 2 years ago. And yes, he is the worst. Everything about him is a total disgrace, from the fact he has no tactics whatsoever and telling Vardy he's lucky to be picked despite him earning it on merit, to him picking players because they play for traditionally big clubs and not currently successful ones, to leaving far better players at home who looked the dogs bollocks all season and delivering our 2 most humiliating tournament exits ever. No respect for him as a manager or a person.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 27 June 2016 Author Posted 27 June 2016 Graham Taylor? God awful teams ft. the likes of Dennis Wise. Failed to get to USA 94 and subbed of Saint Gary in Sweede head 92 That was bad, but everyone in the country, every single person, knows Kane can't take set pieces. Sterling was ok and he went off, Rooney and Kane were terrible and stayed on. Vardy and Sturridge couldn't get a sniff because Slackjaw was occupying the centre. Rashford got 5 minutes! Iceland, might fvcking Iceland, waltzed through our midfield twice, and even had we scored they looked like they'd do it again. They had far the better chances all game. We were played off the pitch by a team ranked lower than NI. Absolute disgrace. Starts with Roy's squad, continued with his tactics, ended with his subs. That's why he's worst for me.

They were all either horribly out of form or injured, or not proven in their positions. He left behind Antoinio, Drinkwater, Noble, Townsend, Albrighton and Ward-Prowse. Jeebus. Couldn't have put it better. This is the biggest crime of all. Although you could have added Defoe to that list who scored 16(?) goals in an awful team.
Tuna Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 If you look back on his career, I don't see anything remarkable. He had success in the Swedish league and did a good job with Switzerland but there have been massive, massive failures throughout - Blackburn, Liverpool, Udinese - and not a great deal of success since 2000. I genuinely think that after Capello left they looked at Hodgson and thought ' he's managed internationally before, lets get him'. The fact he's an unashamed yes man would not have been unnoticed by the FA either.

Parafox Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 South Africa. Yet still he got a contract. The FA are the ones to blame for England's demise. They couldn't pick a decent bogey if they had a cold
Stadt Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 We've qualified for every tournament and made it out of the group stage out of all of them bar Brazil, I f ucking hate him but McLaren was worse
foxes_rule1978 Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 Anyone who takes no wingers or even a target man to a tournament and brings unfit players with not even really a game under their belt , and then sticks Kane on set piece duty has lost it!
Carl the Llama Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 Like others have said; not quite McLaren levels of game and squad management shitness but he really outshines McLaren for his utterly retarded squad selection. And surely somebody can find a worse result; Iceland aren't even that bad a team last time I checked... Edit: Here's one - we lost 2-0 to the USA in 1993 - the USA hadn't even heard of football back then.
iamafox Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 Hodgson can have absolutely no excuses for his embarrassing, horrendous mistakes. Utterly, utterly dreadful manager.
jayfox26 Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 Steve Mcclaren was worse. As annoyed as I am after this atrocious euro campaign, I will never forgive us not qualifying in 2008
Kitchandro Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 i mean obviously cos it was literlly an hour ago you all think this but steve mcclaren didnt even qualify and took us to andorra and we only just scraped a win. capello struggled against andorra then struggled in a pathetic world cup group then got battered too. deffo better than both them Wales struggled against Andorra in this qualifying campaign. Are they worse than us? Claudio lost to the Faroe Islands as well. But we didn't qualify because we finished behind Russia and Croatia, who were very good sides at that tournament. McClaren was and is a joke of a manager but with Roy's ineptitude we'd have surely not qualified either in what was a tougher group than we qualified from for this.
Guest Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 There's some managers you disagree with and you think they're being too conservative, or too bold, or maybe too clever-by-half. You disagree with their methods but at least you understand what they're doing and possibly even why. I've never seen a manager make so many baffling decisions within one tournament - English or otherwise. It was impossible to defend him as it was impossible to know what on earth he was doing. I think if we'd gotten past Iceland he'd have 2 left-backs and a striker in for keeper next match.
Manwell Pablo Posted 28 June 2016 Posted 28 June 2016 I mean the answer is obviously yes. But anyone care to give reasons why. I'll start: He left Harry Kane on the pitch for 95 minutes and he achieved nothing... Happily, Steve McLaren was far worse, the man couldn't even get us into tournament to begin with, and had players with much more ability at his disposal.Tonight was an utter embarrassment and tbh I've taken the whole tournament as a win win situation. Either we did well or Roy was on his bike. but the players should hold their hands up. I'm not stupid enough to suggest that they are not good enough or didn't care in general but they were not good enough or didn't care enough tonight. Fair play to Iceland, leicester like performance, we had the ball nearly all game, they had more shots on goal than us and beat us. Genuinely hope they win it although no doubt the French will give us a lesson in how to take care of the plucky under dog.
leicsmac Posted 28 June 2016 Posted 28 June 2016 I'm just about old enough to remember Turnip Taylor and Euro 92, as well as the WC94 qualifiers. A much more talented squad ruined by horrifying management. So I don't think Hodgson scales quite that level of incompetence...but it's pretty close.
