st albans fox Posted 25 July 2016 Posted 25 July 2016 he has some work to do - that's for sure. Claudio is quite ruthless and if he feels matty isn't up to speed fitness wise then he will make sure he knows what is required. im sure matty will put the hours in. that may be why he hasn't gone to the states or as someone said earlier - could just be a bit off colour.

He played damn well for us until his injury and I thought he looked very good in the second half against Oxford. As below, I was probably harsh with the term "injury prone". I didn't go to the Oxford game so cannot comment but yeah he was decent enough for us. Don't think he'd get in front of Drinkwater now though. Lets see how good Mendy turns out. 3 hours ago, Sol thewall Bamba said: I think 'injury prone' is a bit harsh, the knee ligament thing was he only major injury wasn't it? I'd want to keep him for sure but I think a loan to fast track him back to match fitness would be good for all involved. Send him to NP for a few months. Agree I was a bit harsh there but he has picked up more injuries than most of our squad over time, especially when you consider how good our sport science is. (Knee ligament injury is horrific, mind). Also agree send him on loan somewhere for fitness but I do stand by what I said in terms of getting better quality in.

That is not a dig at him as its to be expected as he's been out for long time, but bossed the midfield let's not get carried away watched the same game. We obviously see it in a totally different way.

Agree about him looking poor though - i think he's a lower to mid table prem player. Not sure about him getting any higher than that. Doesn't score many and isn't the most mobile of people. Both of these things hold him back imo. Isn't the most mobile? He's a machine. If and when he comes back, just watch him for 5 minutes and see the yards he puts in during a shift.
foxes21 Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Providing Mendy is injured for the Swansea game, Matty James is quite clearly next in line as the best partner for Drinkwater. Providing he's fit, he should play. Even 60mins on the pitch would do him a world of good. Give it a couple games and he'll be up to full match fitness. Unelss we sign another CM I'd like to see Drinkwater & James in the middle, it's a tried & tested partnership.
lgfualol Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I don't know if Ranieri rates him. Would prefer us to get someone new in and James go out on loan.

He could well sagVe us alot of money. If he isnt yet fit, nothing we can do but wait. If Mendy needs another week, I would go for Armatey. At home I would make Gray my LWB. For our 2nd stringers or bench waiters, this season I would Like more involvement, across games.Yes the odd tinkering, might help to see who are our valuable and quality members of the squad.Who can help with Plans B and C. Just my short opinion, I would prefer not to wait for cup games, or injuries. I dont mean wholesale exchanges, just the odd one, to see who slots in. Was and Hernandez, Ulloa might accept they will be called upon when needed. I would like to see, if and when fit James, Armatey, Chilwell, Schlupp get the odd starting roll, before middle of October. I wouldnt mind seeing a midfield of.... Armatey..Drinkwater...James. Another thought, starting with Musa ,Vardy Mahrez, with Ozaki sitting behind. I am not looking for any major changes, for change sake, I would just like to see a choice of permatations, with a couple of different names on the sheet. To see a couple more players embedded within Ranieri's Plans, not plan... This season is and will be different, the internal challenges will be different. I dont look to Chase negatives, but ask what ifs, based on what we have experienced and seen from within or other teams, involved in more competitions... So what happens if we see King, Drinkwater, Mendy, take regular injuries, the squad has to deliver. Prudency for me, is giving others some game time, it wont weaken the team.

RastaDog Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I like the idea of Okazaki behind the strikers (given who we have to shuffle the pack with). He's industrious, combative, can hold the ball up if needs be, can play people in. He's not an out-and-out striker imho but can get up in support. We're missing that snap into attack and I reckon Shinji could be the link.
Gazza M Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 I think for Matty's sake, he needs to just get some games. In my opinion a 4 month loan initially to a championship club. I would then assess how he is doing. If is firing then get him back, if not I would look to sell on. I think we don't want to hold on to too long like Liam Moore.
Buzzell Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Would love to see him in the side once he's fully fit.

I think we would all love to see Matty back to his best as he proved a great foil for Esteban but sadly that is quite a while ago. He knows Danny's game better than anyone but since they last played together Drinky has gone up 2 or 3 levels......can Matty do similar? We don't know but I sense that he may need a loan to get some competitive action but we have no room to let emotion be part of the decisions and I don't think Claudio will for one minute!
sm1 Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 James played for the under 21s a few days ago and looked way out of shape. He made Conrad Logan look like Vardy. I can't see him getting into the team anytime soon. Needs competitive football week in and week out, possibly a loan deal.
Clever Fox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 When we were promoted I thought Matty was the one premiership quality player we had in the squad. Unfortunate that he got such a bad injury. However we have moved on considerably, The telling point for me is the fact that Pearson, the man who knows him so well, has not come in for him, even on a loan. It's naive to think that we can afford him game time to recover his Match fitness. A loan somewhere is his best option.

Maybe he not allowed to come in for our players even on loan as part of the termination agreement.
weller54 Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 We've got ONE senior, quality, premier league proven midfield player.. Drinky! That's it!.. We need two big signings to strenghen this area, (especially after Mendy's injury.) It's going to be an interesting final few days of the transfer window.

Sharpe's Fox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 If Matty could get his fitness back could we see a return of the dynamic duo in midfield? I've not given up on him and would hope for my fellow foxes that they haven't either. Unfortunately it looks the case here.

As since NP was sacked our Transfer Department couldn't hold water. We've known about Moore to Reading for roughly 2 months now. Pearson was Sacked, He didn't leave by mutual consent. Which means no such agreement would be in place. Unless we paid up all of his Contract which I doubt very much we did.

Pearson was subject to an initial gagging order, from the clubs point of view im not sure they would want a player that could be back with the first team squad going out on loan with a Ex manager who was sacked, why would they risk negative input on that player and then return him to the first team squad?
