LanguedocFox Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 On paper, we should beat the crap out of them. However, football isn't played on paper. One reason why City became champions is that we treated every side with respect. Hull have experience in the Premier League, and while Bruce has gone, there are still players and backroom staff who know how to set up for games. I doubt that Ranieri, Shakespeare and the rest will think that this game is a gimmee, but if do, Hull will swiftly disabuse them. I'll take 1-0 to us - anything else is a bonus.
Mezeker Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 I just hope we play a very open game. If we don't beat them by a couple goals I will be disappointed; We have yet to show any ability to play well and effectively with most of the possession, something that we are going to have to learn how to do this year. Atletico are so good because they can adapt, i don't think we can play 50+ games with the same tactics as last year. It's not sustainable from a mental and physical stand point. Thus the need for a creative midfielder.
TrentFox Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 The first game of any season is huge. But this pre-season has been particularly complicated and a good result would ease the small degree of apprehension that is starting to creep into some quarters. If it was anyone other than Hull, I'd be tempted to go with three in the middle and for Amartey to be one of that three. But given the dissaray Hull are in, 4-4-2 again, but I'd seriously consider giving Gray and Schluppp starts in the wide positions. I'll now retreat to the trenches whilst those tied to last season tell me why that is wrong and I'll leave it to Riyad to make me look even more stupid than usual
kingfox Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 Schmeichel Simpson - Morgan - Hernandez - Fuchs Mahrez - Amartey - Drinkwater - Gray Vardy - Musa Subs - Zieler, Chilwell, Mendy, King, Albrighton, Kapustka, Okazaki Simpson lucky to get in, new RB possibly needed if he doesn't start performing. Would go with Amartey in midfield, jury is still out on Mendy and King this pre season has been doing his disappearing act, Amartey has looked more mobile plus he has a few interceptions in him. Gray instead of Albrighton, Albrighton doesn't deserve to start after today's showing. The other positions pretty much fill themselves.
Brooksy Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 I think we'll be too good for them. Comfortable 2/3 nil away win
foxes21 Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 Albrighton is vital to the way we play... Can't believe people are leaving him out

lcfcben76 Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 These have had a shambles of a pre season, 4-1 city
Russell sprout Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 I fancy 3-0 city,I think our there's a massive overeaction to our pre season, bare in mind the opposition, distant travelled etc,as long as we win the league games and couldn't care less about pre season defeats
Dan Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 I think we'll slap them personally. We're still a tidy side and they're a complete and utter shambles. We've gotten lucky with the fixture list here. Couldn't have had a better first game and couldn't have had Hull away at a better time either.

Can't believe people are leaving him out Before pre-season, I'd have agreed with you but he really hasn't been at the races in pre-season and was poor again today. Looks like the unfit v1.0 Albrighton that first signed, not the greatescape/title winner v2.0 that kicked on afterwards. Gray has done well every time I've seen him and isn't just here to sit on the bench. Similarly Kaputska will be up to speed in no time so he's got work to do.
TJB-fox Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 Big game and this will be a real tough test, especially as everyone expects us to beat them. They've got nothing to lose. Kasper Simpson Wes Hernandez Fuchs Mahrez King Drinkwater gray Okazaki Vardy Zieler, Was, Amartey, Musa, Mendy, Ulloa, Schlupp i get the point about Albrighton but based on what I've seen pre season Gray really does deserve a shot. Bit of games n confidence and he'll fly imo. Mendy still not really I don't think. Musa should really deserve to start based on how he's played pre season but I still think Shinji has a lot to offer this team and has looked sharp pre season. 1-1 draw. Hernandez for them and Mahrez for us
NewEnglandFox Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 I wouldn't be surprised if Hull put 10 bodies in their box leaving no space for our pace.

If he can't bang a decent cross in, (and defend properly), he doesn't deserve to be on the pitch, IMO, since that's what he offers above Gray, and his crosses earlier were ****.
EnglishOxide Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 ------------------------Kasper----------------------- -Simpson-Morgan-Hernandez-Fuchs- --Marc-Drinkwater-Mendy-Mahrez-- ----------------Vardy-----Musa-------------- Albrighton deserves a couple of league games to play himself into form, and he can supply Vardy aswell as Drinkwater and Mahrez. Mahrez should not be dropped. This could be a good confidence builder for him.

Bazly Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 After the scenes yesterday I think we may well see Musa, Mendy and Hernandez start in place of Okazaki, King and Simpson with possibly also Grey for Abrighton against Hull. Worryingly Captain Morgan had a pretty poor game so lets hope he gets it together for the new season. I think we may well have seen the last start for Simpson for a while. All the MU attacks came down the right until he was subbed, then they came on down the left when Fuchs was subbed.

I don't think we can play Mahrez & Gray at the same time. Neither of them are very good defensively. Having one attack minded winger and one defensive minded winger, gives our midfield a good balance. Gray should compete with Mahrez for the attack minded winger role, then albrighton/schlupp and possibly kaputska for the defensive minded role.
