Has anybody experienced this?

 

I was having a conversation with a few strangers online, and i mentioned that i'm a Leicester fan. I have found in the last 6 months that if you tell strangers that you're a City fan they just automatically assume you're a glory supporter. they quickly went quiet when i showed them a picture of my matchday programme collection that dates back to my very first Leicester game, The FA Cup match with Enfield in 1995.

 

I guess it's just another thing that happens when you support the Champions...

Ha what a game that was, We were dogo, they turned up with their record crowd, away  and they had the worst banner ever which looked like a bed sheet with "MaRk McGEE iS an IdIoT" scrawled across it in spray paint, we were so shit I think I actually wanted them to score towards the end, think we won 2-0.

 

I tend to avoid telling strangers who I support unless I get dragged into telling them. It's going to result in a lengthy conversation I've more than likely already had 50 times one way or another.

yes it did finish 2-0, as it was my first game and i was only 7 at the time my memory is a bit hazy but i THINK the goalscorers were Lee Philpott and either David Oldfield or Ian Ormondryd?

 

EDIT: Just looked it up - Iwan Robers and David Oldfield got the goals

I got unnecessarily aggressive with the first person to jokingly suggest I might be a bit of a JCL. Doesn't bode well for the future.

 

Feel really sorry for the lads I know who don't have local accents and are going to have to put up with this shit on a daily basis now.

Who cares what people think? If you're true blue you've got no reason to get defensive or worry if some Man United fan from Guildford reckons you're plastic.

I was in Rome for the Man United game when we could have won it, I asked the bar man if he was showing the Leicester game and he quipped something about another one with the ink only just dry on my Leicester tattoo, I just said that I had to get my Arsenal tattoo covered up. He laughed.

 

Anyone getting wound up by it is taking life too seriously, he was having a joke so I took it as a joke, you let someone see that it winds you up or if you get defensive and start trying to prove your credentials, then they will just wind you up more. Only a glory supporter would get wound up by being called a glory supporter.

If you've supported us since forever then you'll know that all you need say is something like "I saw us lose 1-0 to Plymouth at home when Ian Holloway was our manager".

I took it as a massive compliment at first but now it's really irritating me. I used to keep a photo album on Facebook when I was a teenager during the relegation season / League One campaign of all the aways we went on so can at least refer to that to add some substance.

so many people have jumped on our bandwagon over the last year it is getting really overcrowded, i just hope genuine supporters don't go overboard and get drowned out in our success.the glory supporters will soon leave for the liferafts once the seas get a bit choppy but we true supporters will make it through to eldorado and the pot of gold

If memory serves me well it took until the 60th minute until we had a shot on target.

 

Talking to an Enfield fan years later he said he like Leicester as we gave them loads of abuse and didn't patronise them by clapping them which previous PL teams have done.

A couple months back I was in the pub and I saw some lads I went to school with. They introduced me to their friends as "He was a Leicester fan in year 7 when we first met"

or went to plymouth on a tuesday night for it to be called off at half time 1 down, only to travel for the re arranged game and still lose 1-0  

 

Anyway, this Enfield game still pisses me off to this day, as they knocked Torquay out in the round before, losing me my only chance to see us play them at Filbert St. Maybe i should let it go  

 

And on the original point, it shouldn't really bother you, but i find myself getting annoyed, even just at shitty messages on fifa, it's as if we didn't exist before and no one supported us before Dec 2105.

I find it quite amusing when I tell people I'm a Leicester fan and then they ask me how long I've been a Leicester fan like I'm 8 years old. I've never been asked that question in my life up until this last six months. 

 

Talking of 8 year olds I feel a bit sorry for mate's son who is born and bred in Sheffield but has been a season ticket holder since he was 5. When he wears his Leicester shirt in Sheffield with his Yorkshire accent you already know what the locals are assuming but he was a fan in the Championship days. My mate spoke to a couple of lifelong Leicester fans from Barnsley and Huddersfield at Wembley with Yorkshire accents, I bet they're sick of the assumptions when people find out who they support and hear their accents.

Since winning the league and people find out I'm a Leicester fan I'm always greeted with the same question "what a proper one" which is easily answered with the mention of Barry Hayles & Harry Worley

In Tenerife in May I was walking along in my Leicester shirt (how many chances do you get to brag you're from Leicester?) We walked by a table and we got a little cheer  so I just smiled at them, as soon as I was by them I heard one of then say "I bet he weren't there when they were crap." I shouted back at him him "oh yes I was" the rest of the table cheered and he went a bit red.

Sounds like Leicester. We give dogs' abuse to our own programme sellers, and if we won, go home and jeer at our Mum till she's got our tea ready.
