So much negativity already. At least the plastic fans won't be too worried about not getting tickets. For goodness sake this is the first match.

in my opinion pre season was disastrous. Los Angeles and Europe.  Too much travel,

Pleae let's stay positive and get behind the boys.

For God Sake don't boo if we lose next week to arsenal.

KEEPTHE FAITH

The problem is that the travel is going to continue this season with the European matches.

We haven't experienced such a result for a long time so it is normal to feel apprehensive. We have got into the mentality of the so called elite with some of the comments today.

Today showed for me a lack of pre-season, we lacked the match sharpness we had last season. We will be fine, and just because Kante has gone doesn't mean we moved from champions to relegation fodder.

I put a thread up about Ranieri not doing enough pre season and my apprehension.  For some reason that thread was taken down.  We are not ready or good enough to defend our title.  Today we were shite beyond belief

Everyone is so binary on this forum. We lost, but to a team that at least put in a shift.  It happens, we just forgot about how it feels. Observations:

Morgan and Huth have to go together.  Without Huth, we got the pre Great-Escape Wes. If Huth goes down injured we will struggle.

When we switched formations in the Great Escape we were able to add width with wingbacks and win in midfield.  Before, Pearson had struggled all season to find the formula.  We can't have that again. Last season Kante made the 4-4-2 possible. This year without Kante, Ranieri will need to either replace him with similar skills or adjust tactics.

We had pace but lacked enough width in the attack. We didn't have Albrighton crossing, instead relying too much on long-throws. That being said, we did create chances, but weren't clinical. Again like most of 2014-15.  You could see the frustration on Vardy's face.  He still has something to prove.  He will get his goals. As will Musa.

The good news is that for every under-performer except CDM, we have depth to push/replace them. Now Ranieri must show his man-management prowess as well. A dose of the Tinkerman may be in order. With some time left in the window we can still address shortfalls also.

It is nice to hear the announcer say "the Champions" over and over.  Won't grow tired of that!

Now that I've had time to digest that result, their some things we can take from it.

1. In each of our key positions (Central defence, midfield and up front) we had ne partnerships. These take time to develop and quite a few in each of those key positions their was confusions and mistakes. Huth back next week and Amartey in for King will hopefully make us look sharper against Arsenal.

2. Even though it's part of the modern game. This world wide pre-season tours are a hinderance on teams that partake. Most of the teams which are invited in these tournaments start slow (think Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool last year). It's not easy to fly around the world to play in four different locations in the space of four to six weeks. Unfortunately, preseason is no longer hard graft that gets you well prepared for a tough and brutal league and cup campaign. It's a marketing ploy to help build profile. If we want to stay amongst the elite, slow starts is what we will have to accept. The jet lag hasn't even got out the system yet

3. While we didn't look great it was clearly an off day. I'd rather us have this at the start of the year than towards the middle. Plenty of games to get stronger and find our perfect partnerships throughout the pitch.

basically, Kante is a loss but we are not dead and buried. We need to adapt and fast!

Problem is the huth/morgan combo seems to have vanished. Morgan has gone right off the boil and hernandez really is dire.

King cannot be in that midfield for me he is simply not good enough with out a defensive minded midfielder.

Musa/Vardy combo looks great though and i think once they click they will bang them in.

The show pony, i mean Mahrez needs to buck his ideas up, he takes too much on with little end product.

And finally the most important thing we need to learn the pass the ball properly, literally 2-3 passes then its straight back to the opposition. That played into Jose's plans last weekend and we will get demolished in the champions league if we carry on like that.

All good points, but that fact we've been shite pre season, and we are supposedly only 70℅ fit, those tactical things you mention leads me to think Claudio dropped a bomb and really fooked up.  For me, we are defending champions , the team looks far from tit

Perhaps the biggest sin was starting the game so slowly. Letting Hull ease into the game and build some belief.

Absolutely, why did we not go for the win from the off.  We were too deep, drive my was playing, well too deep.  Hull were never coming at us, tactically we were poor

Seen a few comments about the international champions cup - totally agree that this has harmed our preparation - travelling etc. I also think there was a little nervousness today. For the first time in a good while we went into a game as firm favourites. But despite being poor I thought we still the better team - but there was some careless performances - a CM is the priority as King was trying to perform exactly the same role as DD and didn't offer an option in the central area. Hopefully this will be a good kick up the back side

Well yeah, but the flip side of that preseason travelling is to be practice for the CL travelling later on.

I'm slightly disappointed I didn't put money on Hull getting some points, it was so blatantly going to happen. :( Things will be fine in the long run, though.

The "it's only the first game of the season" card is not applicable at all today.

We were gifted with Hull first game of the season, a team with one fit centre-back who were tipped by almost everyone to finish 20th. On paper we should've walked away with 3 points and a +4 goal difference. I can't believe people are actually acting like this result is no big deal, especially with the run of fixtures we've got coming up, if we continue to play like that we'll struggle for 15th.

You will have to explain that first line  to

most of them on here lollollol

Instead of blaming the champions cup, blame the management. Spurs played the kids mostly pre-season and got a good point at a buzzing Goodison.

The manner of the defeat was worrying. It's alright crying out for Huth's return but neither of them were exposed last season as much as Morgan and Hernandez were today. It's the midfield that we need to address, and work on doing what we did last season. This is now when we find out if Mr. Ranieri was a genius, or we were carried by a wonderful talent who enables us to play how we did last season.

A few are blaming ICC, but for me preseason is about experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn't. ICC and united games proved 442 without K doesn't work. king drinky partnership doesn't work.

So how do we start our first game......442 with king and drinky. The management didn't learn any lessons from preseason. Claudio's 14 month honeymoon is now over, time to earn the new contract.

Do you still think Hernandez is keeping the CB role lol

Maybe you'll finally accept that Huth is king (not the Andy variety).

Hull situation...was overrated on the negative hype.

The Leicester fans before the game, forgot their own band of brothers scenario..

Just because you have a lack of players available then doesnt mean those

who are available are poor players.

Hull have a good BBone of players  within their team.

The big but here is that if Leicester had took their chances, we would of took home the points.

A good point made by many on this forum...

Our pre-season preperation was well below par, a couple more English games wouldnt of gone amiss.

The Celtic, PSG, and Barcelona games didnt worry me so much but the travelling over the fortnight.

Training in the USA in the peak period , seemed wrong.

Today we seen small glimpses of what might be, but too many mistakes within our natural everyday movements.

I said I wouldnt opinionate before end of September/October....but

Morgan was well off the pace and movement of the game, the last 3 yrs without a good summer break, migh t be taking

its toll.

Fuchs was out of sorts, in his defensive duties.

I honestly couldnt understand the selection of King (love the guy).

Hernandez, I refuse to criticise him in his 1st serious game, where others in  defence were lacking.

Musa Vardy combination, just needs patience and a few games to click, there were some good moments.

Gray, just needs to collect experience as a starter, different ball game, when coming on for 15-20 minute cameos

again not helped by more experienced players misfiring.

Mahrez, always blows hot n cold, Hull played deeper, also cut off the 1st  1-2s before he normally goes on his runs.

His whole own routine was out of sync today.

Fans complaining of us not stringing passes together, Weird!!! We never have strung  passes together.

We also had too much possesion, and Hull took easy the center of the park.

We were off our own pace today, and for me that is down to below par pre-season preperation.

This coming full week should help to get things ticking again.

Normally I dont go for team suggestions, but I would be tempted, to leave Gray on the Bench, and go

for a midfield of....Mahrez Drinkwater Mendy Armatey, for this Arsenal game, Armatey playing infront of

the defence.

Everybody but everybody, underrated the 1st 11 of Hull, onfield they did the business, but could of imploded

if our 1st half chances had sat. All credit to their spirit, and set up for the day .

A blip in our new era, or a return to our  days of inconsistency..

Holy fa€king balls!  I have never seen such a meltdown this early.  Chances are it will take til the fifth game to get up to snuff (new players, and fitness).  We have a cracker manager and great footballers. Have a pint and relax.

I'm not bothered. I think what we achieved last season will sustain me forever.

The big issue today wasn't about individuals though. It was about a lack of balance. You can't play somebody as outright offensive as Mahrez on one flank without a couple of players to cover elsewhere in the midfield. Gray being on the opposite wing was a mistake, as was playing a central midfield two. We don't have the players to do that without somebody in the Kante role. We should be switching to three in the middle unless Mendy turns out to be something special. Perhaps he will, I know nothing about him.

Playing two outright attacking strikers was also daft. A forward like Vardy or Mendy needs somebody to do the hard yards deeper on the pitch to occupy defenders and defensive midfielders and we didn't have that until Okazaki came on.

The line up smacked a bit of expecting to go out and put a few goals past Hull, to be honest. I doubt that was the case though. It isn't Ranieri's style. Judging by the lack of pressing in the first half and the general lethargy on show there is an issue with fitness. It wouldn't surprise me if that were the case. The ICC was always a daft idea and more about the 'brand' than football. I was disappointed (but unsurprised) when we accepted the invitation.

No need to panic. We'll be comfortable in the middel of the table and will get through our CL group. Anybody who expects more is deluding themselves. Last season was a beautiful anomaly. Something to cherish, but not to expect to see again. Instead of fretting about that we should be enjoying what we have. We are Leicester City, the most remarkable champions of England for decades and are about to embark on a European Cup campaign. We have good owners and a wonderful manager.  We're going to be okay for some time to come. Even if we're not, look at what we've had. Fans of most clubs never get a sniff.

Agree with this but a lot of the individual displays simply weren't up to standard.

If even 1 of Mahrez, Vardy or Schmeichel play we anywhere near the level they're capable of we'd have won that game with room to spare.

I don't think that we learnt our lessons from the Man U defeat, last Sunday. Middle of the park is disgusting!! I cannot believe how poorly so many of the team played. Notable mention to Captain Morgan.

We definitely need a beast in the middle of the park to replace Kante, cos it certainly doesn't work with Kingy in a 442.

Lets hope we are more competitive next Saturday against the Gooners.

No need for knee jerk responses but let's call a spade a spade. That was dogger of the highest order.

We were champions. No way we will make top 10 with effort that lacking.

Need to to buck up, wake up and fast or this season will be a long and dreary one for us all.

Posted

Awful performance. Can't put it any other way. Didn't even want to stay in the ground to clap them off.

Hull wanted it more and their players were up for it. Certain players for us didn't look bothered at all.

Formation didn't work. Okazaki needs to start. Drinkwater is doing the work of two players and we kept getting overrun in midfield.
