Hull City Post Match Thread 2 - 1

Awful game. Totally killed the day for me.

Can't think who was actually good. Musa was my MOTM because he at least set up chances, one for Vardy to sky and to completely miss.

At least this is a wake up call, yeah you won the league, but we're not suddenly going to win games without maximum effort. Hull should be treated the same as any other team, but I feel the players thought it would be a walkover. Mahrez needs to sort his mind out, stay or go.

A few points

kante didn't become a regular starter until a half dozen games into last season. King and drinks did fine together

Kante's absence was not the reason we lost today

King missed at least first couple weeks pre season. Asking him to play in a midfield two was a bit unfair.

vardy should have started the game and musa should have finished it. That way we get the best from both of them until vardys fitness picks up.

in my opinion, we need two okazakis because that harrying position behind the front man and amongst the opposition holding midfield is vital for the way we want to play.

And we need to lose the arrogance - in this league, the difference between fighting for top six and bottom six isn't very big. The arrogance applies on here too. Astonished to read some of the pre match thread.

think we can all accept the defeat but excuse us for being angry and upset about it.

I'm angry and upset, but trying to balance it with the joy of last season. So many people have short memories.

I'm in the Clary on my fifth pint still rationalise the performance.

of course, with the shambles Hull are off the field I actually feared we'd do this because Football...

Wes Morgan and Robert huth have been absolutely shite all pre season but everyone will put the blame on Hernandez instead of Morgan, Mahrez was a waste of a shirt and watching him you could see that Vardy had only played a game and a half in pre season. As much as I admire him Andy King in a 2 man CM pairing just doesn't work and Kasper ... just don't, totally useless with a high areal ball and that throw perfectly set up the winner well done...

If his name wasn't Schmeichel then far more Leicester fans would agree that he needs replacing.

oh well, the joys of football ...

Hull needed it more than us..

We won by 10pts, so we thought lets make it a little closer this season..

So we are still on target..40pts we will get 1 week later.

All big clubs will struggle as well.

King Dick, needs to forget his wenches and wine, celebrating  has finished.

He needs to concentrate ln his spirits discipline . on the new season now.

New fields to conquer...

Ah man what a disappointing display! Hull were everything we weren't - hungry, passionate, resilient and totally deserving of their win.

We had enough chances in the match to win but poor defending cost us today. Hope we can improve next week!

I'm hoping that rather than a mass drop in morale, they'll just realise that all expenses paid trips abroad and free BMW's is over and it's time to play again.

Centre mid as feared before a ball was kicked is my biggest concern. Drinkwater and King doesn't and never will work.

Really hope Matty James is up to speed soon, him and Drinkwater are the only midfield pairing that we know works.

I don't think Ranieri rates him very much, he's training with the people the club want to get rid of.

I'm not sure why, but I'm not too worried.  This seems to be a reality check for all of us, which is good.  The players need to take everything seriously. I also think that with new players it takes time to learn each others style and habits.

Still feel shell-shocked to be honest.  We saw the signs in our horrific pre-season but to actually end up looking worse against Hull City has stunned me.

I mean what even team was that?  Certainly not the Leicester City from just three months ago that's for sure.

whoosh.

doesnt matter what happened last season, anger and upset are valid emotions after a piss poor defeat, doesnt mean we have forgotten anything.

So used to not losing games its a really hard one to take.  Its difficult to not be negative when there was absolutely no signs of everything that made us a success last year.

I dont accept it was all down to Kante not being there although he obviously leaves a gap.  Every player on that pitch looked a couple of yards short of where they need to be.  Bar the Musa run that ended with Vards blazing over, they looked slow.  Our game relies on pace and Vardy, Musa, Gray, Amartey, Mahrez looked in terms of pace, ordinary today.

On the evidence of today, Arsenal will tear us a new one next week.

Outnumbered whenever in possession, second best to nearly every ball. Strike area remains a worry for me. If the duo of Vardy and Mahrez doesn't work, it makes me wonder how we manage games and today proved that. Don't get me wrong we have a very good squad but we need a few more signings yet.

IMO our pre season has done absolutely nothing for us. For business reasons we've been all over the place, doing PR events, showing off the trophy, playing run around and getting our backsides kicked by PSG and Barcelona for a game and a half. That doesn't do much for our game to be totally outclassed and chasing shadows.

We should have stayed at Belvoir Drive played similar sides to last year and worked on our game and maintained our momentum.

I'm not singling out any one player today because not one of them looked on it.

It's difficult to see who can replace Kante. Hopefully Mendy will but we missed his energy. Also showed how Albrighton is underrated by many and crucial to our gameplay.

Hernandez just looks abit out of his depth to me

Everything about the way we approached that game was wrong.

Firstly, we're obviously going to suffer massively without Kante but you've got to give us a chance at least. King in a two away from home has never, ever worked. He doesn't really have a role or do anything. The thing about last season is every midfielder had a very specific role that they excelled at. King is the sort of player who gets the ball and passes it sideways and backwards. He's not a good tackler, he's not energetic and is far too afraid to take responsibility in possession. He may as well have not been there today.

The tempo was shocking. Our whole game is based around getting the ball forward quickly. We tried to play like everyone else today - like Tottenham or Man Utd and that's one of the reasons we looked awful. If we insist on doing that we will go back to being the struggling side we were under Pearson at this level. It was very reminiscent of one of those games in 2014/15.

Defensively we were all over the place, not only did we miss Kante but Huth as well. Simpson is exposed when he tries to do too much - why was he bombing forward? He almost never did that last season. I assume he was doing it because we were having no joy through the middle at all due to the aforementioned slow tempo and the fact that Drinkwater was trying to do both his own role and Kante's from last season - with King anonymous he was way too deep.

One of the most disappointing aspects was Vardy & Musa up front. Vardy had an off day. Musa looked like another Schlupp, capable of being a massive handful but tbh he looked like he had no idea what to do with a football most of the time. Considering he's our record signing some of the stuff has looked worrying. Amazing play once in a blue moon is not going to cut it, we need a striker who will core regularly and link up well with the rest of the team because if we play our normal game we cannot afford to have our attacks break down so easily. We actually missed Okazaki today, he was able to come deep and cause a few more problems than Musa and Vardy who both seemed to want to go wide for through balls all the time which was too easy to defend against. I was looking for an upgrade up front but Musa looks way too erratic to be a starter, he's an impact sub.

Three substitutions should have been made at half time but we didn't make one until the 67th minute (I think) and our last one wasn't until the last 10 minutes. Amartey (who looks a poor player to me) wasn't much of an upgrade on King. Okazaki did improve things and Ulloa came on too late to make a difference.

Albrghton not even making an appearance is extremely strange to me considering he was so pivotal for us last season. I can see why Gray started but I don't think he deserves to dislodge Marc yet.

Mahrez looked totally disinterested, head was down and he put in no effort. Not sure why he's taking penalties again either....but he scored. Needs to be dropped next game. Add to that everyone was below par and it made for a very embarrassing result.

All in all this is a wake up call, if we want to be successful we need to capture both the spirit and the style of play from last season. Today it was like watching a completely different team and I am shocked actually.

It's not an overreaction to say that was a pitiful performance and everyone at the club from the fans to the players to the coaching staff expect a lot more. Back to basics please. We have got to play the Leicester way.

Today was a different test.  Hull sat back and said "come on...lets see what you've got".  Unfortunately we didn't have much.  Our pace was nullified against a team that sat back and we didn't have the guile and craft to create any clear cut chances in the second half!  When playing against a team like Hull it is imperative not to concede....let alone concede sloppily....but we gave them 2 sloppy goals, and they duly obliged by defending with their lives.  What concerned me was the lack of creativity in the final 3rd.  Teams will sit back against us now and we have to find different ways to win these football matches.

We are now more likely now to get counter attacked, rather than us doing the counter attacking.

I think Morgan looks exposed without Huth/Was around him.

Early days, I guess.

What worried me was that Raneri kept saying we 60% match fit week before new season, doesnt inspire confidence does it and today it showed. Was Schlupp injured, odd wasn't even on the bench, as he good player to bring on with his speed and control
