Collymore Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 Ian Marshall! Bloody hell, what were you doing when this goal went in!? Anyone lucky enough to be there? I remember being rammed into the Galaxy in Burbage (pretty sure that's a Coop now?) barely old enough to buy a pint and the place was nearly set on fire when Rag Head scored! We were proper minnows back then, something I feel we won't find this year. The officials decisions over the two legs were beyond belief! We definitely deserved to progress over the two legs, especially after the farcical at Filbert Street.
Russell sprout Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 Remember watching on Eurosport round a friends house, never forget the commentator, "he would give a kings ransom for that goal"
Webbo Posted 18 August 2016 Posted 18 August 2016 I was on holiday in Paignton , luckily the owner of the hotel was from Leicester and set up Eurosport on the telly for us. I was at the home leg, what a night that was.

Biggest injustice I've witnessed,we had 4 stonewall penalties turned down,if I remember correctly they French ref got banned from Reffing euro games after that

Guest Basildon Fox Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I was there. Trip from hell. 3 days on a coach. No beer because we were not able to go out in Madrid before. Held in a compound for an hour like a piece of cattle. ****ing brilliant when Marshall scored though. Would do it all again for that moment alone. Robbed in the 2nd leg by a cheating twat of a ref.
Livid Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Just started a new job on the Monday so gave it a miss. Was at home screaming at Eurosport.
TiffToff88 Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I was 9 at the time and my mum wouldn't let me go as it was on a school night. Despite mine and my dads best efforts to convince her! i did get to Vienna for the Belgrade game though. That was an interesting experience with their fans!
Guest Col city fan Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Remember this game like it was yesterday. I was literally screaming at the tele that the ref was a cheating cnvt! Cos he was

I managed to get to Vienna as well, hope we don't have to go to Belgrade this time. Also when we bought tickets didn't you have to tell the club how you were getting there when you were travelling and where you were staying at in Vienna.

Would love to know an accurate figure of how many of us were in Madrid that night. I've heard about 4,000 but it felt like double that in the city centre that day. We were sat up in the gods and I think there were plenty of empty seats in the home stands. Not sure if we were given an official allocation or not but I don't think it was as organised back then as it is now. What a great experience though and so happy we flew and didn't take the bus like some poor sods!
Kegworthfox Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 The Vienna trip as a bit rough to say the least can remember the fire rockets being aimed at us and the pub we went to getting turned over. Madrid was not to good either we flew over escorted to a park and told tickets will be given to us on the coach when at the ground.
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 In bed, in a pitch black room, with the radio on, trying to work out if Ian Marshall had actually scored against Atletico Madrid at the Caludron or whether if things were getting that bad I should probably go to hospital. Got knocked out very badly playing Rugby about 2 hours before it happened, apparently I asked my Mum whether I'd hallucinated it about three times when she was bringing me various stuff to aid with the worst head ache I have ever had.
VLC86 Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Was too young to go to either of the away matches but went to both home ones. Gary Parker getting sent off for taking a free kick too soon was an insane decision and that Red Star goal where Tim Flowers couldn't see the ball due to the flair lol.

The club made out you would only be able to buy them through the club but in truth you could by them at on match day. The best thing was the guy checking tickets. No turnstile just a guy ripping ticket studs.Everytime he would turn to talk to his mate 5 or 6 City fans would just walk by him and into the ground
RastaDog Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 58 minutes ago, Marmite said: Were the tickets easy to get hold of? Yes. I simply strolled up to their ticket office on the morning of the match and bought a ticket. I'm not sure you could do the same in this era though.

I was in my first year of Sixth Form, me and 4 mates went expecting it to be amazing but we got treated like shit. Was quite scary as a naive teenager. Got wrapped on the back of my legs by a Spanish copper because we were singing. The game made it worthwhile, although we nearly got kicked out of Sixth Form when we got back. The home leg still gets me riled up, I can't even watch the highlights now. Simultaneously the best and worst game I've been too I think.
dan_fox Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Yes never forget this day - sat in the double decker in one of those 'restricted views' seats - which was basically behind a massive stanchion. Atmosphere was incredible!
dan_fox Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Just watched the highlights of the home tie and the reaction from Martin O'Neil after the game was so right, we were genuinely robbed in that game.
RowlattsFox Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I watched the away leg of the Atletico game at Spinney Hill WMC, place was rammed if I remember rightly. I think i watched the cup finals there too. Don't remember watching the home for some reason but would have definitely had Radio Leicester on. I remember watching the away leg of the Red Star game at home, so it must've been on normal telly? Channel 5 maybe? We are definitely going to screwed over by a shit referee again too, i just know it.
SemperEadem Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I'm sure I watched the Red Star game on channel 5.
Nalis Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Yeah the Red Star away game was definitely on Channel 5. Could you imagine the internet / social media being around when we THAT game v Atletico? Foxestalk server wouldn't have coped!
