Will we be disappointed with this Transfer Window?

Recommended Posts

We've broken the club record naturally and I would imagine it won't be long until we do so again. We've got a couple of players in but will you be disappointed? I think I will be if we don't make a couple more signings.

I still believe we require another CB, possibly a RB, CM and a Striker in order to have the strength and depth to compete. I do trust in our owners and CR though, so if they think we have what's required, I have to go along with that.

I just just think we are seeing targets coming and going etc.

Thoughts?

If we sign Nzonzi and a RB I will be delighted. Those 2 positions are the most important to me.

If we hadn't gone and won the league last year, i would have thought we'd have had a good window. Lost one player, gained a quick attacker, a decent midfielder and upgraded our backup keeper and a central defender. However, winning the league and qualifying for Europe has fvcked that right up.

The only ones left disappointed will be the ones who always want more players, one or two new players each transfer window.

We've got to accommodate the players that we've got, but it'd be great if we could sign another RB (although Amartey has played there before) and a striker just to be on the safe side on each position.

Not so sure about the need in central midfield right now, as Amartey or Kapustka could fill that role, as well. Plus, next to Drinkwater and King, we still have Inler on our books. And James doesn't seem to be too far away from the first team at the moment.

The January transfer window is the one for desperate attempts at bolstering the squad and prices spike also, so it'd be best if we had deals done and dusted by the end of August already.

If we sign a CM & RB, and possibly a ST then I'd be happy.

Maybe a little against the grain of the posts so far, but I'm delighted.

  1. We've kept all the key players bar one (all be it an incredible loss)
  2. We've not just kept those players but had all sign new extended contracts - for sure it doesn't guarantee them staying in the long run, but it does guarantee a reasonable fee.
  3. We've added some cracking additions - I think Musa will be terrific when he acclimatises fully.

Thought we would strengthen the 1st 11?

Now or never regarding our status.

Yes we renewed contracts but it was always on the cards.

Take one or two out and 'the machine' doesn't function as well.

Disapointed so far?

Feels like we should twist....:ranieri:

There is no right or wrong answer to the OP, so I'm not arguing against your overall point...and i would be equally delighted if we did twist for the right player......I just think that it most certainly wasn't always on the cards that top players would stay.

If we had finished mid table last year then yes I would have been happy with what we have done this summer but the reality is that we won the league last year and we are in the Champions League this year. We have failed to take advantage of our Champions title and are still financially competing as a mid table club which is very frustrating and the lack of ambition in the transfer market has left me scratching my head in amazement. Really Leicester? The one transfer window in the club's history that we have the same pulling power as some of Europe's elite clubs and we waste a vast majority of it attempting to get clubs to sell their best assets for low prices, it's bonkers. We could have really cemented ourselves as a powerhouse of English football with this brilliant opportunity that has been presented to us and we have failed thus far. This was the transfer window that I looked forward to with great optimism and excitement before it started and now that it's nearly over I'm left looking back at it as the disappointment it has been.

I'm disappointed but hey ho.

I think we're weaker than what we were at the end of last season. In the summer I was hoping we'd keep our superstars:

1. Mahrez

2. Vardy

3. Kante

Keep our top quality players:

4. Drinkwater

5. Schmeichel

6. Morgan

7. Huth

8. Fuchs

And I would like us to have found top quality upgrades on:

9. Albrighton

10. Okazaki

11. Simpson

If we could have done the above I believe we would have been a lot stronger and in a much better position to defend our title.

Of the players we've signed this summer Mendy is a downgrade on Kante and Musa looks quality on his day but hit and miss. Every other signing is either a squad player or one for the future. At the end of last season I would have been disappointed to be in this position a few days before the transfer window shuts.

There are too many angst-ridden teenagers populating this board. If last season taught us anything it's that spending huge amounts of cash on players in an attempt to win the league doesn't always work. You need the right combination and can achieve amazing things without buying the latest Nigerian, Brazilian or Korean one-season wonder for umpteen bazillion quid.  Those that clamour for "proven quality" are hopelessly naive in thinking that it's a given that "proven quality" in one place transfers to another. All you end up with sometimes is an expensive misfit, whereas the unproven quality turns out to be a gem (Kante, Mahrez, etc.)

Panic stricken demands for Top & Ranieri to "gerrimin" and "splash the cash" for every single name that some doofus floats in the transfer thread are laughable and the assertions of others that they "know" that a particular player is better than another (why aren't you a premier league manager, remind me?) are bordering on the pathetic.

How's about actually shutting up and letting the club get on with things rather than bickering endlessly about your pet players ("it's fun to speculate," you'll say - no it isn't, it's mind-numbingly tedious to see an endless succession of know-nothing wannabes proclaiming their supposed inside knowledge of the outer reaches of football transfers) and trust the manager that has delivered the most amazing thing that we'll ever see in our lifetimes?  Those claiming that the club is lacking ambition in cementing our position in the top 4 by spending £100 million quid per week on new talent are deluded twats, frankly, and should give it a rest.

This.

Desperate to to shore up midfield.

Amartey does not look confident with the ball at his feet which is hardly what you are looking for in a PL midfielder. That leaves us with James (not enough game time) or King (not strong enough). If we want to finish top half or higher I think NZonzi (whilst no Kante) would do the job. I was very impressed with his dominance the season before last when we were beaten at home by Stoke.

Yes the the fee looks high (we sold Kante far too cheap) but our net spend this season is virtually nil.

Get it done.

I'm ambivalent, but the positives outweigh the negatives for me at this point.

I think that Mendy and Musa will certainly add something to the squad, and Hernandez provides needed cover for our aging back line. Zieler seems to be a more than capable GK. Kaputska will develop into PL quality with time and is an appreciating asset. We even seem to have invested for the future, while resigning Chillwell, Mahrez, Vardy, Drinky, Kasper and Morgan.

It would be nice if we had added another pure striker, but I'm rather attached to Ulloa, Okazaki and Vardy. A ball-hawking CM would also be nice, and less of a luxury than a striker. That said, I don't believe that we are a weak side by any means, and have a great deal of optimism for the future of the club!

With demanding CL fixtures ahead, signing a decent CM wouldn't hurt. Even if the club won't sign anyone I'm pleased with the signings so far and remain very optimistic about LCFC's future. COYF!
