RowlattsFox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Whilst it would have been nice to have the extra midfielder, I don't think it's the end of the world. It was only a few days ago that we were convinced the problems had been solved because Amartey was brilliant. It's too early to right Mendy off, he's had one game. King will always do a job if required for a short while.
st albans fox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 I think this lack of an additional midfield signing and the way we play with two in the middle means we will definitely see Claudio accelerating a workable change in our formation. Many games we will still play 4-4-1-1 but whereas last season we only played a couple with five across the middle, I expect a lot more this time. Not fair to ask DD to play 45+ games in a 2 v 3 every week. Last season, we crapped ourselves with each international break. I am less concerned this time as we have better cover (DD apart). let's defend this title!!!!!!!

justfoxes Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Obviously Claudio thought we had enough cover what we have in those midfield positions and was probably as disappointed as most of us with Silva not signing last night,I'm sure with the squad we have now is stronger than ever and we can seriously keep our squad fit and playing well I can see no reason why we can't defend this title with passion pride and some bloody great players !! And after all the passion and comments of last nights race to sign players,Well we have this all to look forward to again the next time it opens in January !! Onwards and upwards In claudio we trust! Champions of England 2015/16
Happy Fox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Raul Meireles is available as a free agent he could be a good signing for us.
Ric Flair Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 My only worry is with only 3 central midfielders fit and no real replacement for Drinkwater should anything happen to him we are stuck playing 4-4-1-1 as going 3 in the middle with a relentless fixture list and no alternatives to the 3 available is brutal. Hopefully Mendy will be back in a couple of weeks and James continues to improve his fitness but I'd be all over Flamini this morning and get it done before the CL list is submitted later today.
Foxxed Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 I hope we get him in Jan. At the moment, Shinji, Jeff and Albrighton's defensive contributions, to name only three, are looking more valuable than our seemingly ridiculous attacking threat.

Guest WarehamFox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Seems a little silly to have let Inler go, hopefully the injuries we have clear up soon.
escos Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Why is everybody writing off King? I don't believe he works with Drinkwater but he's a capable replacement if DD has to sit out a game or two. Plus he has a goal in him which is more than any of our other midfielders seem to have.

Sometimes he is capable. Other times you don't even know he is on the pitch which could be bad if we're playing an important game. That's my concern with King anyway. Drinkwater scores about as much as King does nowadays too.
Jazzy_Jeff Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Anyone else think that the late interest in Silva could have been manufactured to help bring the Slimani price down? Just seems funny that they apparently wouldn't budge on £34m valuation but we then got him for £6m less

We all know he is not as good as Drinkwater but I still believe he has enough.

Are you including Kapustka in those 3 central midfielders? Or is he 'too attacking' to count? 11 minutes ago, lgfualol said: Drinkwater scores about as much as King does nowadays too. Yeah, but he also plays twice the amount of games that King does.

Eventually Kaputska could be deployed centrally but I'd be amazed if he is this season as Ranieri likes to blood his youngsters out of harms way.

In case of emergency (Drinkwater, Mendy, James all unavailable) he would be a potential stop-gap though. Surely we shouldn't be planning on having more than half our central midfielders out at the same time, that would mean a hugely inflated squad, especially as we only like to deploy two at a time.

Now old and looks like the Portuguese Gandalf. Flamini could be ok to play here and there though. The fact of the matter is we are probably done business wise though.

I no i cant believe we have let him go and got no 1 in to replace i think we have made a massive mistake here we just all need to pray drinkwater comes back from England ok and doesn't get injured till at least January
leicesterlad1989 Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 If possible I'd rather he never get injured.
