Adrien Silva

Anyone else think that the late interest in Silva could have been manufactured to help bring the Slimani price down?

Just seems funny that they apparently wouldn't budge on £34m valuation but we then got him for £6m less

Doesn't make sense.

It was promised to Slimani he could go for something close to 30 Million €.

Sporting CP received other offers for Slimani from another english Club and one coming from France.
They were willing to pay a fee of 26-27 Million €.
And if Slimani didn't come to LCFC he was going to one of those who offered 26/27 Million €.

If anything the interest in Adrien Silva only made things worst.
Sporting CP President doesn't like players and their PR's asking for a transfer in newspapers, and he was upset with Adrien position and maybe LCFC too.

It was said in Portugal that the Slimani tranfer was already agreed for 28 or 30M€ - it was a matter of few details about payments.
But Adrien Silva messed up talking about LCFC too, and than Sporting President raised Slimani transfer to 35 Million €.

Slimani transfer was 30+5..
Maybe those 5 million depending on performance is because of Adrien Silva interest.
And I believe Slimani signed with LCFC because it's what he wanted - compared with those other Clubs willing to pay a big fee - because Mahrez and (maybe) wage.
Otherwise I think Sporting were more willing to sell to a different Club because..that late interest in Adrien.

Any rumours about this ongoing talks happening, that if you go out of the champions league group stage then we can sign him in January?

Any news in general coming out of Portugal this morning?

Inler was one injury/suspension/3 games in a week away from game time.

Considering we're light on midfielders and James looks knackered you could see why some will have questions. Not to mention the Champions League experience and the fact we've lost a 'captain'.

CM's ahead of Inler:

Drinkwater

Mendy

Amartey

King

James (possibly)

Also Kapustka or Albrighton could do a job there. It was right to bin Inler as he wasn't earning his keep.

Currently two of them are injured and I'd definitely prefer Inler to Kapustka or Albrighton in the defensive midfielder spots we play with.

Am I missing something? I remain perplexed...why on earth was it 'daft' to let Inler go when he was earning zillions and wasn't anywhere near the first team anyway? Why?

lol

We WEREN'T PLAYING HIM.....

We have James out, we have Mendy out and STILL Inler wasn't featuring.

I'm scratching mi head here. Either it's nits, psoriasis or I get ever more concerned as to the views of our fans?

Yes Col, you are missing the point people are trying to make.

What we're saying is, the perception is that we are light on numbers for midfielders. So to  let one go and not replace him (regardless of perceived quality and wages) seems abit silly.

The debate on whether he is or isn't good enough, or whether or not you think he was given enough chance to prove this, is kinda irrelevant. As soon as we pick up injuries and/or suspensions, which will inevitably happen, during the extended schedule we now face, we may be forced to use a square peg in a round hole. This approach ain't good practice at this level.

Well in four months time we can buy another CM.

Drinkwater, Amartey and King are all fit and ahead of Inler.

Mendy is reportedly out for a short time.

James is a bit of an enigma at the moment.

Kapustka is highly talented and young and a current international so I'd rather see him given an opportunity than Inler.

Albrighton has the attributes to do a job in CM in a crisis.

I think Inler was just a drain on the wage bill and much better to get shot of him whilst we could than keep him just in case of an injury crisis.

Loan market closed last night for Premier League clubs.

There's no emergency loan market for lower league clubs anymore either, I think only youth loans are possible now

Sorry I still don't think he is missing the point.

Inler was pretty naff from what I saw (I'm trying not to say cr@p) and I'd rather have any shaped peg playing instead of him.     And we have lots of pegs to choose from as CR has brought in several players who can fill in in different positions ...

The debate on how naff he was is very relevant.   He was naff !

free agents we can sign and play now.

There was no point whatsoever in keeping Inler on massive wages. Your backup for 4 or 5 injuries should not be earning what he was!

Not a lot of people know that 'naff' is a Polari (underground gay slang) acronym which means Not Available For ****ing.

Inler certainly did not feature much in any way at all.

I was using it with this meaning more in mind ..

'really bad, unfashionable, or of very low quality.'

Ahh okay... in that case i'd certainly take Flamini and Caceres on very short term deals!

Well done mate, as usual. That's my whole point.

IF we pick up so many injuries that we cannot play (in order maybe?), Drinkwater, Mendy, Amartey, King, Kaputska, James then we are either very unlucky or doing something wrong. To keep an ageing midfielder, on up to 60k per week (allegedly) as a (let me count) SEVENTH choice CM is barmy!

lol

Well done City and I wish him all the best.

Sure. I was just talking about the original meaning of the word. It's quite at odds with current usage. And Inler being not available. Geddit.... Ah, never mind. I'll get my coat.

I almost expected to wake up this morning to the news that we'd submitted a deal sheet and were just ironing out the finer details. I guess we'd have heard about it by now.

You remind me of my missus ...    I haven't got a fookin clue what she's on about half the time.   :)

Never heard about that. But I wouldn't be surprised if you could get Adrien Silva in January for the same ammount you were offering.

Things will never be the same between the club and the player, we must recognize. The reason I always said you wouldn't get him wasn't only because we didn't have a back up option yet, but also because that back up option wouldn't be really an option, wouldn't be ready to get into our 11 with the same quality presented by Adrien.

We got Elias in the end. The manager can get him ready to assume the position till January and then I think it will be ok for you to get Adrien. It wasn't about the money, it would be an extremely bad management move for us to sell Adrien now.

Most recent news around here is an Adrien facebook post saying that after the national team challenges, he will keep playing for our team with the same focus, ambition and hard-work as usual.

Pretty sure as long as there is space in our 23 man registration limit, they can be registered instantly, probably wrong as I cant look it up and I'm going from my ever so reliable Football Manager knowledge.

Why should   we bother, there will be others coming up on the menu. Time tends to forget needs.

Sorry Col (agree with most of your posts over the years) I started the "it's silly to let him go while we have so many injuries" but we are in two extra comps this year (I know the new JPT thing is carp) but for me he would be ahead of Albrighton and the young Pole in midfield. Besides Albrighton will need a break as well. Money doesn't seem an issue, ie his wages for the next six months. Will see how it goes till Jan. I think we are a little short in the middle.

That new JPT thing sounds a bit fishy to me....
