We already have plenty of cover in that area, it's quality we need, not cover. We could be out of the champions league by then, if you don't rate him fair enough but your logic is flawed.

Flamini would be an ideal person to get in considering our defensive midfielder is currently injured and his replacement is about 20. Flamini would be ideal to play in cup games when we've got a depleted squad. 4 central midfielders isn't nearly enough. I don't rate him at all, he's finished at this level that's why it's September and he's still without a club. If we wanted a washed up old has been as cover we should have just kept Inler. I could name seven players in the Leicester squad that I'd pick in central MF before Flamini. People panic too much about cover, the same people who were crapping themselves if we sold Ulloa and Schlupp rather than cashing in for £20m+

We're currently an injury or suspension from having an academy lad on the bench. Not nearly good enough for the Premier League Champions. Especially considering we've just begun what's likely to be a 50/60 game season. I was definitely behind the idea of selling Schlupp. Ulloa not so much because we'd need him in January but the centre of midfield is entirely different. I like your optimism but I don't quite fancy playing Porto needing a win to qualify when our midfielders are absolutely knackers having already played 25 games without rest. The depth doesn't hurt at all. Flamini, like Inler, doesn't seem to be the one to kick up a fuss and i'm sure he'd help behind the scenes.

Flamini played quite regularly last season up until he was hit with a muscle injury, missing the last nine league matches for Arsenal. But he did play against Barcelona in March, his last game for the Gunners up to this day. He's certainly got more recent league match practice than Inler, that's for sure. Btw, Crystal Palace are sniffing around: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/02/mathieu-flamini-crystal-palace-free-transfer I'm sure he still has the qualities we need to be a "quality cover".

Maybe the odd league cup game if he's lucky. Hes been out for 18 months and keeps getting setback after setback. He went off on Tuesday again injured. You don't return the and player after being out for as long as he has been. To get into our team now he would have to show an improvement from the player he was before that's how far we have come while he has been out. Its simply never going to happen. I fear he will slip down the leagues hope I'm proved wrong. Tell me one player who has been out for as long as he has and come back the same player??? Gerrard!! You seem to be avoiding answering my question?
Wymsey Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Tad concerned over the bigger-than-normal amount of games for the current CM's expected to be in before January. I expect possibly a new CM like Silva to come in Jan and compliment those who could suffer from some burnout by then and is only fit to play around half or 3/4 of a game

Inler's been let go because he's clearly out of favour and had an offer on the table from the club he supports, who are also in the CL. He was always going.
bpfox Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 i think what everyone is missing is what a combination silva and islam could have been for us. they have played together and silva knows what he wanted and when he wanted it that sort of combination would have been great, it really would have been worth a extra 5 million euros, if that what it would taken to get it over the line.

Koke Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Flamini is a total liability. He isnt good enough at CL level. He hasnt got he legs anymore and he isnt the most disciplined guy.

The idea would be for other games so that the main players would be well rested and fully fit for the champions league games...
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Is it Schneiderlin or Schweinsteiger who aren't involved heavily in the Man Utd squad? They could be worth looking at if we feel we need another CM. Agree about Silva though, his partnership with Slimani could've been excellent, just like Drinkwater and Vardy. However, I reckon Mahrez-Slimani could work well as a pairing, we know that Riyad has the ability to pick out a pass or deliver, and they've both played together before for Algeria so they might have a decent understanding of each other's game already.

Agreed I'd like to see Schweinsteiger join us. Schneiderlin would be amazing but unlikely we'd get him. Carrick would have been worth a shout too!

Personally I'm content with the central options we've got, but wouldn't turn another one down.
ARM1968 Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 There's a thought. Wonder if we could tempt Gerrard.
