He's played no form of football for three months though, could really do with playing on Tuesday in the JPT otherwise I can't see him being ready.

He only had an op two weeks ago! CR said he may be available after the international break. I can't see him playing in a match before he has started full training again.

I would imagine he may be available for the bench  Middlesbrough home game but I doubt you will see him before that after such a troubled lay off

He had the op on 17th Oct .... 3 weeks ago. Claudio reported at the time that Mendy will be unavailable for 4-5 weeks.

I know it's the best we can hope for right now but those pinning their hopes on Mendy's return are going to be bitterly disappointed.

He won't be the difference in this team.

He might not make us the force we were last season, but he'll do a hell of a lot more than King or Amartey to get us towards that level. You don't have stats like he had last season by accident, he will be a class act when he's up to speed.

I think I've mentioned it before but I think Mendy could be really good for us. From what I gather, he's of a similar style to Drinkwater with his distribution, and added to that his energy, I feel he could suit our system well. Against Arsenal (H) I liked the look of him. He was energetic, tracked back defensively and looked overall up to the level to me.

Due to his supposed natural position (defensive mid), he could be ideal to sit in front of the defence as protection, and potentially allowing Drinkwater, King and James (?) to get forward more. Of course we also have Amartey who can slot in and do well, he is a good option for us I feel and we've got a good player there, who will progress with time especially with quality players around him.

In regards to this injury he has, I think to get the best from him we're going to have to introduce him gradually, not put straight in. To be fair Ranieri/management/medical team etc will know this.

Our biggest problem is we have stood still coaching wise. We play exactly the same way as last season even though the player who made that work has left and other teams have adapted and improved. I don't think Mendy or amartey are the issue, the system is, either we play 3 at the back or 3 in midfield. That is my biggest disappointment, that this wasn't addressed earlier in preseason. Claudio himself was quite vocal about the need to have different plans, yet nothing this season has shown that we have prepared for this. Arsenal last year changed Claudio's thinking and I'm hoping Liverpool will do that this season. I still think we're a good team who will climb the table and get to the knockout stages of the Champions League but that doesn't hide the fact that our recruitment and preseason has been poor.

We are playing very differently to last season.

Maybe this is the much talked about Plan B and we should be getting back to Plan A ffs!

I imagine when Mendy returns, Amartey in particular will know key CM positions will be up for grabs, and that's a good thing - especially as most current CMs are being inconsistent with their performances.

Bearing the fact that Mendy is still regarded as needed to address this CM issue, James will have a mountain to climb to even be considered when he returns himself.

Hernandez had a high number of interceptions last season and can pass. Why not try him alongside drinkwater

Because he's a centre back come right back Ffs. He had great passing stats because he probably just passed it from centre half to centre half all 90 minutes in la liga.

We looked more solid against Arsenal with Mendy on the pitch. And he was a captain with his previous side, so I'd imagine a full tilt he's some player. But unfortunately our problems lie with out style this season, it's just not working, something has got to change.

With James and Mendy picking up reoccurring/new injuries, I wonder whether training preparations are a factor in this in particular?

none at all. He had his operation three weeks ago, and Claudio said he would be back with us around 5 weeks after it, so that would mean he resumes training towards the end of next week. I dare say he will need at least a couple of weeks of training, a couple of under 23 games, before coming into the squad. My guess, being optimistic, is that he might be part of the match day squad by early December.

Mendy must be looking at how Nice are playing and have slight regrets about leaving.

Until he looks at his bank balance.

Strange how people think Hernandez is shit! Rarely gets skinned and can pass the ball! Why not give him a chance if no other option is working. Seems silly waiting till January when something new could be tried.

I'm yet to see this being able to pass a ball you keep mentioning.... he rarely picks out a blue shirt and is slower than Morgan or huth, he hasn't really shone when given the opportunity to play in his natural positions in defence so what you've seen of him to feel he'll be decent in cm I've personally not seen, he's looked average at best!!

He may come good I just don't see him as a better option to anyone we have at the back which says it all as we've looked pretty sloppy defensively so far this season, he looks like nothing more than a squad filler imo
