Nothing changes between him arriving at the ground and touching the ball for the first time. How can you slag people off for giving him grief if you're planning to do that? It is the Pantomime that is Football.
IrememberBobHazell Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I would be surprised to see a full strength Chelsea team out tonight so he might not even play. However if he did I hope the crowd show some class and treat him as the club hero he was, if only for a season. I think a genuine and heartfelt round of applause is required and then give him some good natured stick if he falls on his backside or misplaces a pass. Welcome back N'Golo, I wish you had stayed but you were part of something incredible and we will never forget it or you! Now do us a favour and score 6 own goals before you head off back to the big smoke!

Nod.E Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Lots of little men throwing tantrums here. No need for anything dramatic. He hasn't done anything wrong, simply made a career choice. He quite clearly didn't fit in with the group on a social level like the majority of the dressing room and now he's gone to a bigger club. It's a shame but it is what it is. No need for cheers, and any booer will only succeed in highlighting their stupidity which will make knowing who to avoid sharing a half time beer with easier than ever. The small men go home happy that they made themselves feel all Alpha. Everyone else gets on with the game and we beat them. Everybody wins.

Footballwipe Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I mean the reason a lot of us are all so bitter is because of what he did for this club, the impact he made, the level he helped us get to and ultimately the fact we loved him. That, by default, means we admire him. The nature in which he left was the most gutting thing for me, the fact he went to Chelsea, not in Europe. I've always said about this group of players. One more year. That's all I want from them, one more year. See us through defending the title, see us through our exciting UCL campaign, then you can disappear if they all so wished. If he'd gone to Real, Barca I'd have been happy for him. Chelsea, no, I can't bring myself to be happy for him. He's a bloody good player and he'll have one hell of a career, but I'll be completely indifferent tonight if he plays. No booing, no cheering, more a case of thinking what might have been.
Howard99 Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 It really doesn't matter that we are a champions league side this season and they aren't. They will be a champions league side again next season and probably forever more. They are a much bigger club. He made the right decision for his career
inckley fox Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Some of the reasons given for booing him really are spectacular. Here are my favourites: - That there should be more tribalism in football (which I assume excludes the warm applause Hazard will receive from many of the same people and, possibly, hooliganism). - That his cardinal sin was staying for only one season (a season in which, to a far greater extent than the still-adored Cambiasso, he achieved more than anyone else had achieved with us in a lifetime. And was crucial to that achievement). - That he didn't leave us for a superior club (since when did it become honourable to use a club as a stepping stone? Surely it's better to help make a side great, then leave? And, needless to say, Chelsea are a bigger club than we are). - That once a player leaves, he's dead to us (apart from all of the ones we warmly applaud when they return, including some who never even played for us). - That he erased all mention of us from his life (apart from the fact that this is massively over-emotional, and not entirely true, it's also unlikely that he personally has ever felt the need to delete pictures of himself in a City kit). It seems to boil down to people thinking that when a player, good or bad, serves a club and the club decide they no longer need him then this is right (interesting to see some of the same people saying Kante is 'disloyal' are also saying we should 'bin Ulloa'). But when the player decides they no longer need the club, this is wrong. Especially when we really like him. Personally, I know enough about the previous 130-odd years of our history to be very grateful for Kante. I wouldn't want to blacken the name of my club by being childish and bitter about his departure.
Alex_LCFC Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 Im sure cambiasso would get a great reception. He was only here for a season

They paid for the tickets and they are free to say what they want to say (as long as they keep it civilizid)
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I'm not going tonight but if I was I'd treat Kante like any other opposition player. Because that's now what he is. I wouldn't short and swear at him but I wouldn't applaud him either. To be honest, he's made his mind up, has chosen Chelsea and so be it. I'm pretty much indifferent to him now. I hope if he plays he has a stinker...I simply want us to win the game
jon1bc Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I won't be clapping but I also won't be booing him either. People need to move on... this is a non-thread

Nothing against Kante's individual decision but look at the once big clubs now languishing among football's also rans. I said decades ago that Leicester had massive potential and there's no reason to believe our title win was the football equivalent of a one-night stand. We can win things for years now if we continue to build on what we've already done.

Kante's statement was pretty poor, first talking about France, then a bit about thanking Leicester, Ranieri his former team mates and fans. Then goes on to talk up Chelsea. His other comments about joining Chelsea includes this gem: Quote “For me it's a new step. To stay at Leicester and play in the Champions League would have been a good step, but joining Chelsea is a good step too. “It was very difficult to leave Leicester. I spent a very good season there, but it was my chance to play for Chelsea, who are a big club. It's a new challenge and a new adventure starts. “Of course I hope it isn't only one year to wait. I have never played in the Champions League. But everyone knows that Chelsea are a big club and I hope I will be playing in it next year. “Playing in the Champions League is a big dream of mine. When you are a player and have a chance to play in it, it's a good thing. But I hope to play in it next season.” He delayed the fulfillment of a dream to play for bloody Chelsea. When it is your dream to play in the Champions league, don't bloody leave a club in the Champions League for one that isn't.

I would prefer if everyone was completely indifferent towards him but because of the subservient clappers I'll be forced to boo to neutralise it and make him aware that we don't think it's acceptable for him to leave the league champions for another English club not in Europe after one season and still on an upwards trajectory. Didn't give a damn? He cared when it mattered last season and put in as much if not more effort than almost anyone else on the pitch. For that he'll get a polite clap and people will just move on. Nobodies going to bow down to his feet. "Not acceptable to leave the league champs" Sorry that's just ridiculous. You just don't like the fact he left your team for another, that's your issue. 1 hour ago, Gerard said: You clap as hard as you like and think of people like me as childish all you like and I'll boo him and think people like you don't mind being shat on. Don't mind being shat on... who has shat on us exactly? Yeah winning the league and getting in the champions league, terrible. He didn't force a move, he didn't sulk, he didn't do anything wrong but take an offer he thought was better long term. It pissed me off, but that was my own disappointment at the weakening of our team.
FireFox Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I want them to finish 4th. Then we win the champions league. [emoji106]They would still get in... unless an English team (outside of the top 4, us also outside top 4) wins Europa too.
bluebeau Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 I can't be at the game, but if I was, I would not boo him at the start of it. I do consider him to be a traitor but he never was 'one of the boys'. He didn't seem to fit in with the other guys & maybe his head became too big to get through the door at the Walkers? The best answer we can give him is to knock Chelsea out of the cup & take 6 points off them in the Prem, oh & finish above them in the Prem. League! YES!!!
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 News to me that we are on an upwards trajectory, look a lot lower in the league for it!

As an SAS instructor once told me "You can smile at a man while plunging a dagger into his heart." Applauding Kante, then beating his team, would follow that philosophy perfectly.
gerrytaggart Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 After I had played a big part in delivering the best ever years performance at my old firm....I got offered a new job, better money and my signing on pay way unreal!! The only down side was some of the lads from my old place would boo me whenever I saw them. I tried explaining that I had given my all to their cause whilst I was there representing them...but they didnt seem to understand and just kept on booing me....shame really 'cos it made them look like a right bunch of dicks. Im not sure what this has got to do with Kante but Im sure that some of the more astute amongst you will be able to draw some parallels.
ealingfox Posted 20 September 2016 Posted 20 September 2016 If you can't see the difference between Cambiasso's departure and Kanté's you really need to just sit down and be quiet.

To qualify for the CL this season they need to finish ahead of at least 6 teams that finished ahead of them last season. 7 to avoid the play off. They have not made a lot of signings and one of them is David Luiz. They will have their work cut out to finish above Man City, Arsenal and United that is not even considering Spurs a strong looking Liverpool and Everton looking to do a Leicester. Far from certain that Chelsea will finish top 4, if they don't then Conte will be gone, and Kante could well be sold, dropped, injured or really unhappy having to share a dressing room with Diego Costa. He may never get to realise a dream that he had already achieved.
