Wasn't that bad today was he? Certainly worse out there.

Problem is he isn't ready yet and we really do need someone to properly assert themselves on games.

we bought a CB and have since played him at right back ior in central midfield, when he was at Copenhagen they used him as a sitting man in a 433. He's not cut out for a CM role in 442

An expensive Junior Lewis.

Poppycock.

Lewis was a 28 year old journeyman lower league player who had no business playing in the premier league.

Amartey is a 21 year old kid brought in for the future who is being played week in week out because we have no choice.

He's not yet developed into the player he can be. To put him in the same bracket as Lewis is ridiculous.

That Copenhagen side looked solid against us and I was thinking he must have had something to have held his place.

I hope you're right.

I think Amartey looked OK. He looks twice the player when he drives forward towards the box, it's exactly what the team needs to get forward by 10/15 yards. He could have had a goal too.

Drinky being out could help him grow and force him to take more control and drive the team forward.

I've been very underwhelmed by Amartey.

BUT your comments put things into perspective.

Have to agree with this. I think he's got a pretty terrible first touch personally but what he can do is to give and go quickly. He actually looks better almost in the final third than he does in his own half.

I hope people are right.l that he's gonna get much better. Personally...can't see it.

For about the tenth time though, I don't blame the kid himself. I blame the club for putting him in this position AND we have been unlucky with Mendy.

Thought he was our best player yesterday. Always hard to come in and do well straight away when you've not been playing much. Second half he made some great runs through midfield. If his shot went in nobody would be slagging him off.

He's just not good enough defensively and has lapses in concentration, which is costly when he plays the CDM role in the 4-4-2.

So until Drinkwater & Mendy are back..

What about playing him further forward charging opposition down in a high press similar to what Kante did. If he can start winning tackles/interceptions in the opponents half, then that's when we can be dangerous.

The unfortunate thing for Amartey is that he could really flourish in a team that's on form and full of confidence,  but with so many underperforming, it's not really cultivating a healthy environment for him to progress at the rate he is possibly capable of. Right now he is gaining a lot of experience but not really developing in the way we would want.. but he still doesn't look out of his depth in an underperforming prem team and for a teenager in his first season in English football and particularly the prem so to me that's a promising sign...

He was THAT bad yesterday, other that heading he has nothing, he's had enough appearances for the nerves and neievity to have warn off by now, we've seen an odd glimpse of something okay from him, other than that he has been pretty shit in all honesty.

You can only nurse people for so long until they need to step up, I don't think he is capable, maybe dropping to the championship may help him.

He was easily our MOTM yesterday. He has a lot of talent and is still very young. He will get better especially when we sign a quality midfielder to go with him. He would have shined along with Cambiaso. His confidence is growing,  even getting into the box and shooting. Now that he's had games in the toughest league in the world he will continue to develop as is Demari Gray.

He was also excellent when he came on and must be pushing for a start soon.

He looks like he plays with the hand break on most of the time. When he's more aggressive in the tackle and drives with the ball he looks twice the player. Just doesn't happen often enough.

Exactly what I was about to say, he's too cautious but that can come from playing in a massively underperforming team.

When he lets go and ups his tempo he looks far far better. He just rarely does it.

Sort of reminds me of Savage when he first signed. He didn't look up to the job until was it the Sunderland cup semi, where he just let loose, threw off the shackles and worked his socks off.

To get anywhere I think I think Dan needs to have that moment.
