brisfox Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 This might sound like a bit of a whine but the atmosphere last night, while good in parts, was not as loud as it could be. I wonder if anybody had some suggestions to improve it. One thought was that the stadium fills up quite late before kick off. Perhaps if more people came early ( I accept that many can't for a variety of reasons), then the noise would build earlier. Sheffield Wednesday have a band, might that be a way forward? Thoughts?
Karljohn Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 Atmosphere has been amplified by those bloody clappers for too long. Also can't believe we still play goal music. I agree 15 free bottles of Singha should assist.
foxile5 Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 Didn't we have a fans group that attempted to raise the atmosphere? And didn't the club make them take down their flags over some trumped up reasoning? Probably to be expected that the atmosphere was flatter than usual.
yorkie1999 Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 Just seems there is a certain apathy towards the games at the mo. We turn up, sing a couple of songs, if we win we win, if we don't, who's cared. I think last season has a lot to do with it. We lifted the holy grail of football, the thing that every fan in the country wants.
Finnegan Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 It's been crap for weeks. It's got nothing to do with... well, anything. It's not about fan groups, chants, clappers, tifos, drums or swapping the kop with the family stand. It's just psychological. We were good, amazing in fact, now we're shit. I'm well aware it's in the football fan credo to back your team regardless but the drastic swing in not just our results but our performance is quite obviously having a drastic effect on people's enthusiasm. I wouldn't say it's not understandable either tbh.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I think if we swapped the family stand with the kop this would help!
Captain... Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 Last night was odd it was brilliant at times, but very quiet at others, Bruges fans were similar, good pre game, they were there in numbers making noise, but the early goal knocked them back then they rallied before the second shut them up until the scored then they were great, although it did sound like they had nicked our song book and were singing it back louder than us. One thing I noticed the clappers yesterday were massive, too big to use when squashed in with people in big coats, and by holding them up when the players came out it meant nobody was clapping for the team and no chants got going. Full ground display for the remembrance fixture is fine, but when you want to get the players fired up a wall of noise is better than a sea of Blue and White.
Leamington Fox Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I sense a tension and nervousness amongst the fans, which partly translates into it being less boisterous than it has been. I wonder if this feeds into the players. Look how we went from totally cruising at half-time to a bunch of nervous nellies at 2-1 against a really poor side. I am also unsure what can be done about this collectively, other than return to winning ways. I also noticed the strange silent reception for the team, because we were all holding up the bloody clappers. I don't think that is a good idea.
lee7 Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I thought last night was awful. At times there was complete silence once we were 2-0 up. The people around me only really got going when it was 2-1 with 20 to go and it looked like Brugge might snatch an equaliser. Compare it to the first home champions league match and there really is no comparison.

Guest Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 Wait till all the glory hunters stop getting all the tickets and the normal fans will come back

Guest Lako42 Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I sang all game and had a good time. Most couldn't be arsed. One of the biggest achievements in the entire history of the club and people couldn't be arsed. Thought we played really well at times as well.
stripeyfox Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 The "atmosphere" is more or less proportional with the on field performances. So since the start of the "great escape" and through last season, it was great. Now we are not doing so well, people are less enthusastic. If you think it's crap now, wait until we're relegated
tyfox Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I must admit that it was very quiet last night. I tried and tried but no one around me would join in with any songs. My voice has gone today
HighPeakFox Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I think that overall there's just too much football now and we're at saturation point.

How do you explain that?

How do you explain that? I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. I don't mean minute by minute, game by game. We're two points above relegation in the league, we can't even beat WBA at home, we've played abysmally in our last couple of Champions League games and a lot of people are feeling very deflated about the club at the moment. It's very easy to say "we just won the league how can anyone be down!!?" but I think we all know that that's unrealistic.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 Start of the game we came out flying and the fans backed the team as such. Then we start this sitting back nonsense, playing the ball around the back four, Drinkwater and Zieler, not really offering any threat and it seemed to go quieter. Apart from Union FS who again I don't think fell silent once, many of the support last night was reacting to how we were playing.

How do you explain that? Oh and we weren't playing great. We played better. It was OK. It was still way below our own standards. A lot of very slow, very hesitant pausing on the ball with very little intensity.
