How much longer does Claudio get a pass?

It's really disappointing to read this thread. We are in undeniably poor form, however we have players missing through injury and suspension. We also have found that a couple of our signings or replacements haven't come close to replacing Kante. So our recruitment hasn't quite worked, we can not say the club didn't try. However we have had CL to contend with , and due to our League Title success a mistake in the pre season match scheduling did not help. You do not call time on a manager or his staff who have hit a run of poor form. It's absurd, ask yourself did we do it with Pearson? It's not the solution, to bring in what exactly?

Have some faith, he needs more  time, and we can get some stability, yesterday hopefully was a low point in terms of performance. Equally I must say that our loyal support is still there, remember you couldn't get a ticket for love nor money, yesterday I couldn't give my tickets away for free. As 'supporters' we need to get behind the team and the manager, our support and atmosphere has been poor and getting worse. We know it will be difficult to emulate the atmosphere of last season for obvious reason, but it does visibly lift players.

The owners will know the point at which Ranieri has lost the dressing room. It's nowhere near that time yet.

That is a worry. I think that is my main worry. But I think he isn't the kind of manager to give the players a public dressing down though. I guess it is fair that the fans want a bit of reassurance it is being acknowledged.

i think a lot of our problems come from the midfield, and to be fair we don't exactly have options there. That's why I'm hoping January will bring change.

That said i accept its a failing from summer to be so short there. And it's blindingly obvious that in the absence of better midfielders we might be better to occasionally line up with 3 in the middle.

It certainly isn't positives all round from me at the moment. But we aren't into sacking territory yet, not even close! Patience

Yeah I think a bit of public acknowledgement would do him and us wonders. My worry is that this is the first time he's had it tough here and he looks lost to me.

The players shouldn't get away with this either, too many look like they've downed tools. Even if some of them have lost confidence in CR (I'm not saying they have) it's unacceptable. They've come out in the past saying how much they love Ranieri,  time to fight to save his job

His post match interviews are really starting to annoy me now. As last season he really doesn't say anything of any value. While you're winning its endearing. Now it just pisses me off.

In in saying that he is unsackable and would have to step down. Not now though. I still believe we can turn this around and the penny will drop for our 'coaching staff'.

As for Pearson... Nothing to say about him and never will have anything to say about him. Ancient history and let him stay as someone in our history, like Wellens

I'll give him a lot more time. Though I won't ignore that he needs to make changes quick.

- formation: obvious but see injuries below.

-loyalty/sentiment: some of these lot are not all the same players as last season. Money and success has killed their desire. Ranieri needs to drop them, no matter their wage. Funny that Okazaki didn't get a new contract but still puts in a shift. Gray has posted a few things, but he is hungry as ****, get him starting.

These things aren't helping him though

- Injuries/suspensions: not his fault. He watches them train and obviously doesn't agree with playing Schlupp or Okazaki as a CM.

- Poor preseason which was more about money than preparation, Liverpool played about 9 preseason friendlies. We played 4 and flew around the world for them only to get smashed. Club and players having a poor 'we are a top club now' attitude which lead to us losing to Hull.

- Recruitment: think this another thing the club/Ranieri ****ed up on, not surprising given our players were great last year and now they're all letting us down/back to their true levels. Obv I don't know if they did try for players.

Can't be arsed to say anything else. But the club should see who he brings in in Jan at least.

Completely agree.  We look like a poor Championship side at the minute.  I honestly think that Claudio rode on the back of the good work put in by the previous regime.  When we escaped relegation in 14/15, our lack of quality was apparent in parts of the season, but our work rate never, ever waived which gave me hope.  This season however, the fight seems to have gone, the pressing is none existent, the quality is terrible and i can't see where the next win is coming from.

"Riding on the back of good work done by the previous regime" might have seen us finish in the top half, at a push.

Last season we became the first team other than Man City, Arsenal, Spurs, Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea to finish in the top 4 for over 10 years, and that in only our second season back at this level. That is absolutely incredible and something which gets lost by the absurdity of the title win.

Do you think Pearson could have had us in the top 6 even, let alone top 4? Never mind winning the whole thing by over 10 points. Never in a million years was Pearson tactically intelligent enough to change the width of the back 4 to make us harder to break through or get the best out of Mahrez.

Totally reductive to look at this year's results and use it as "proof" that our TITLE WIN last year was down to a man under whom we very nearly got relegated the previous season. I think NP's great and everything but what Ranieri did last year was totally incomparable to anything ever achieved before in the history of football.

Surprisingly enough, he's just done that:

Leicester City: Claudio Ranieri says 'everything wrong' with title defence

"Everything is wrong" with Leicester City's Premier League title defence and they are in a relegation battle after losing to Sunderland on Saturday, says manager Claudio Ranieri.

The Foxes are 15th and just two points above the relegation zone following a 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of the Light.

Their return of 13 points after 14 games is the worst record of any defending Premier League champions.

"It's difficult. We miss everything," Ranieri said.

"Everything last season was right, starting with luck; this season, everything is wrong.

"But we must continue to work hard and maintain the right balance in ourselves, believe in ourselves. The battle is long, but that's football, sport."

Leicester have not led away from home all season and fell behind midway through the second half against Sunderland when Robert Huth diverted a corner into his own net.

Jermain Defoe added a second for the hosts and although Shinji Okazaki pulled one back for the Foxes, they could not find an equaliser.

"We wanted to get points here but of course it was a relegation battle. They won, well done to them," Ranieri added.

"I said two, three weeks ago, always I look behind me. We are in the battle of relegation. For this reason we must stay calm, together and continue to work hard."

'I believe in Vardy'

Jamie Vardy's poor form in front of goal continued as the England striker failed to score for a 16th successive game in all competitions for Leicester.

"Look, for me, he works well, hard," Ranieri said.

"Of course the goals are important, but I believe in him and sooner or later, he will start to score goals."

Ranieri's earnt himself longer because of last season, can't completely dismiss it just because it was last season... Key players to come in and buy some decent players in Jan. However, if January and February continue to bring poor results, what other choice is there?

I like most , desperately want him to succeed and stay because sacking managers all the time results in a 'Leeds' situation with no stability. But... Us staying in the league is more important than a manager and unfortunately you can't sack some of the players, but he should be dropping them.

A few decent points to be fair but we simply can't get relegated and on current form it doesn't bode well plus his transfers in so far have been very questionable. ranieri has spent a fortune!

Ranieri has not spent a fortune - I wish he had.

Our net spend in the Summer was around £30m, which for a small squad, Champions of England with the extra games of the Champions League on the horizon was not enough.

Also consider Slimani, Musa and Amartey were organised with Walsh in charge of transfer business. Did he stitch us up? (!)

Having watched us yesterday then spurs on MOTD my god what a difference...more or less every spurs player wanted to run..attack..contribute...its obvious we are missing drinkwater but still he needs help as neither king or amartey are pl standard..also I feel we would benefit from 3-5-2 formation....roll on tranfer window

I don't think Slimani, Musa and Amartey are bad players, but it takes time for some to adapt to this league. Plus Amartey I understood was a centre back and he looks it, Slimani and Vardy service has been shite, especially from Mahrez this season. And Musa played upfront for CSKA last season but is being thrown on the wing.

Claudio hasn't got a clue what his best team is and to be honest neither do I. Last season that wasn't the case.

He shouldn't be sacked yet but he is showing very little to turn this around and that is worrying. The players don't even look bothered.

Nobody is safe from getting sacked. Ask Mourinho - the man who delivered a first league title in 50 years. Poor start in 2006 and he was gone.

RDM delivered Chelsea their first ever CL trophy and got sacked 5 months later. His replacement, Rafa Benitez, got Chelsea back into the top 4 and won the Europa League for them.

There's very little sentiment in football .

In the last transfer window he spent nearly 30m on slimani, 13m on mendy, 17m on musa, 7.5m on kaputska and not to mention amartey prior to that.... in comparison to Windows before that it's alot of money

Exactly. Owners have spent so much building us up they won't want us relegated otherwise it's back to square one.

But it is constructive. He's showing no signs of changing this and keeps saying we're playing well. It's poor management, simple as that

Would you chanel your tune if he got us relegated?

"Poor management"!!? So this has nothing at all to do with the players' performances? Virtually the same team but lacking in so many ways.

I think some of the players feel they have achieved the ultimate prize, winning the Premiership title, few will expect a repeat so why bother as I say the weight in their back pockets is clearly taking it's toll.

As for relegation, that's pure speculation and will need to be addressed in the unlikely prospect of it happening.

We also sold Kante, Kramaric, Moore etc for over £40m.

Our net spend in the last window was way too low for a title winning side.

Here here! I'm also sure there'd be dozens of far better world class managers tripping over themselves to get here to save us! Oh  wait a minute, I can't think of one available decent manager better than the one we've got at the moment.  There's always big bent Sam Alladyce I suppose, give me a break. We're hardly on death row. We're in the knock out stages of the Champions league and how many games before new year? Before you can blink we'll have a choice of Drinkwater , Mendy and James to chose from in midfield. Players like Marhez and Vardy need to have a good look at their superstar overpaid selves first,  neither of them are putting in the work, Shearers comment's on motd last night were bang on, the work rate isn't there.I think Ranieri s loyalty to some of them is coming to an end sharply. I'd drop Marhez full stop. Vardy too and replace him with Slimani in his favoured striker role with Albrighton on the right (his most effective position ) and Gray on the left. Ranieri has a long proven career as a good manager whereas some of our players are clearly transient one season wonder fly by nights. They should hang their heads in shame, Vardy and Marhez currently wouldn't need to take a shower after a game.

On what do you base that opinion? Blind faith?

Pretty much agree with this although would not single out Mahrez- he has be marked out of most games.

Slimani and Vardy need different support from midfield and as a combination they have not worked.Midfield still the main problem.

Time is one thing you don't get in this game people....and unfortunately Claudio is fast running out of it, and our relentless defending of him will be our undoing.

See your point but it doesn't hide the fact he's massively overspent on the players he's brought in. man utd have spent an insane amount but not done them much good..... we didn't need to sign tonnes of players in the summer just simply spent the money more wisely

Only 'some' people on here are defending him.. most are waking up and smelling the coffee!

I  worded that wrong. It isn't purely down to poor management but it is a factor. The players are letting him down massively and it's sad to see but he needs to make some big calls to halt the slide

The owners are now comfortably ahead. They don't seem the type to walk away with a wad in their back pocket but they could if they wanted to. By the end of next season they may not be much ahead (assuming we stay up and spend 30/40 mill nett in the next two windows)

Chop and changing managers is all too prevalent in football today. What staggers me is that hew we have a manager who has brought major success to this Club and all too quickly when the going gets tough folk jump on the 'get rid' bandwagon. Remember, Ranieri achieved more in one season than any manager before in the history of Leicester City.

I suppose some will soon be saying bring back O'Neill or even Pearson!!

Posted

I expected us to score very few points between now and Jan because our squad is awful, way worse than it should be for a team that won the league and had a tonne of money to spend.

He gets till February for me. If he wastes this transfer window and doesn't improve the areas of the team that so obviously need it then my patience will be gone. He's earned another crack after at a transfer window after last years heroics.

It feels like Sven is back in charge this season though, spunking away good money and still not being able to put out a side that can perform against the dregs of the league. Complete opposite to what we've been doing as a club for the past 4 or 5 years.

Very good point, this is often conveniently missed by people defending the summer spending.
