Demarai Gray - Everton

People talk about potential but he isn't going to become that much better than he already is. He had the potential when he was about 16. The difference between 20 and 24 is neither here nor there for him as he's played about 100 professional games, how long does he need to start showing this 'massive potential'?

I get that he's a young Englishman with bags of flair, but he's not the next Mahrez. I think that £20m is ripping Everton off.

I'm at crossroads with him. If he wants to go then i'd let him go but I think that he needs knocking down a peg or two and a big money move to a big team won't help that. He needs to knuckle down and prove his obvious ability week in week out here IMO.

Plenty of players improve after 20, just ask Vardy, Mahrez and Kante. Even Ronaldo was just a show pony at that age. Players regardless of talent improve by playing against the best. He's had a few minutes in the PL, no where near enough to make judgements like "he isn't going to get much better then he already is"

Honestly, I am not very impressed by him. he is not very good at tracking back, a bit selfish (forget about getting a pass from him if he found a chance to shoot from 25 yards), not the greatest passer and runs to blind alleys like there is no tomorrow. Did nothing special apart from the united goal, thinks that the club owed him a starting spot( judging by his social media's little fits). I will not be bothered about him leaving, judging by the price of young English players, we could get about 15-18M£. We could get a better player from outside England. Pick a player from the French/Netherlands/Portugal with the same price and he will have an immediate impact. For me, I have to say "get rid". I would've been totally O.K. with him staying if he had belief and trusted his coach orders.

Absolutely would not sell him.  The potential is there without question, he won't develop properly getting bit parts with the odd 20mins here and there. After he has had a run of 8-12 consecutive games, that's when it will become clearer if he can deliver

You only need 20 minutes here and there to show potential, and I have to say, he got more then one chance to show that he has great "potential". And honestly. He doesn't strike me as the kind of player with a high ceiling. I don't need for him to win us matchs now, I need him to show me that he has the right ability and the right attitude that allows him to be the main man. he did not show both, mahrez is going in the summer. And I would rather spend time preparing another player with better ability/attitude to lead the team in the future.

22m price tag on his head.

Thanks for the info. mate

Would be risky, with AFCON and finding a replacement in time. He also deserves a shot at starting a run of games.

I'd like him to stay for a bit longer but he's looking more likely to be effective at a club like Everton than us at this moment.

It's up to us to get the best out of him while he's still at Leicester.

He's played 100 professional games.

Probably more than Vardy, Mahrez and Kante combined before they all joined us.

Behave with Ronaldo. When Ronaldo was Demarai's age he was the most expensive teenager in history and was in one of the best United teams of all time week in week out.

Why would he not get much better based on the fact he's played 100 professional games?

My point is, when is he going to start showing his potential?

I'm not saying that he definitely will or definitely won't get a lot better, just that usually after 100 professional games you'd be seeing more consistent performances. Gray has 1 good one followed by 6/7 average to poor performances.

I see your point, but it's hard to be consistent when you're only playing the odd 10 minutes here and there and having the pressure to make something happen to stand a chance of being picked next week

Generally you'll only see consistancy when he's playing consistanly.

We ain't giving him his chance, when other players aren't performing, I don't like seeing players throw toys out their pram, show attitude, i'd normally say get him out of the club but on this occasion I can sympathise with him.

If the players who were keeping him out the team/from a starting place were playing well you could understand him not getting a chance but they're not.

Hopefully he gets a start today, why not?

Because he was gash on Wednesday?

Difficult as he could be really good but I'm not sure that'll happen here. At least with current staff. He seems pretty surly. I'd like to see him given a stretch of games during afcon before any decision.

honestly he's not that good, he'll become an inconsistent player

against a packed defence he is useless.

Wrong, he has ability and will develop , whether you think it's good or not, he will make the England senior squad in his career.

What do you expect against a packed defence

Gray is going nowhere. Mahrez on the other hand.... Do people see him staying with us for one more season? It's all Claudio asked of them, "Give me one more season". I'm not looking beyond that personally. At that point Gray takes over.

I don't think CR will sell him, at least not until January, for the same reason he didn't let Inler go last year. Afcon,  injuries, and suspensions... In any event, someone needs to sit Gray down and show him a calendar: He is getting plenty of playing time next month, unless he grates CR to the point he flips Albrighton, and plays Musa instead.

As for Mahrez, I'm not sure anyone would meet our price given the way he's played this season; that and Slimani could keep him here another year.
