He came along to my brother in laws scattering of ashes at the memorial garden. One of the most genuine blokes I've met. By all accounts a great player too.

He's such a genuine, sincere man and a fantastic club ambassador. Loved seeing him talk about last season. Hope he's up and about soon.

People have talk about legends at the club, birch is just that, the charity work every season, and he's gave his heart and soul to the club.

Think the torch thing is tacky, but anything to make birch feel the love of the fans.

And I think a big vocal chant of his name is needed, so wherever he's listening from, he hears what we feel about him.

I'm glad to hear the Birch's doing ok and I also hope he'll be able to stick around for as long as he can following the heart surgery.

He's genuinely funny, a very decent human being and one of the few to connect the Leicester City of today with the one from the past.

Birchenall has given the club, the community and so many people so much thanks to his annual run and other initiatives for a good cause.

Surely the club will mention something in the matchday programme or via the stadium speaker today and also come up with a dedicative move just before kick-off.

Don't forget that the Birch played for Chelsea for three seasons, before he moved to us. I'm sure the Chelsea fans will join in the chants when they hear what's happened.

GPF .Its the childrens heart unit at glenfield that is the issue.I don't think our Alan is in the childrens unit due to his advanced age.

Any chance of a an extra signature though eh.

Lets hope we get a rousing message before the match later.

Watched him play in my youth, and a great ambassador for the club, he is like a stick of rock if you cut him in half i'm sure he would have LCFC in there, wish him a speedy recovery.

When Filbert Street was replaced by the KP it provoked some thinking about what constitutes a football club. Players come and go, as do managers and coaching staff. There are many people associated with the running of the club but they're rarely ever in the 'limelight'. The fans of course - but they too are rarely indentifiable as separate to the blue-and-white crowd who flock to the ground on matchdays.

To me Filbert Street was the constant -  my home-from-home, so I was saddened to see it go. Yet hearing about this has caused me to re-think. He is, without a shadow of a doubt, Mr Leicester City. and, if anything other than winning a title makes City special, it's him. He was part of a special team and an excellent player yet his humour, affability, generosity and sheer hard work for all that centres around City and its adherents have turned him into a legend and a totem of our Club.

I'm not sure there can be many like him in football, or in life for that matter - because he is simply a good bloke...well, in truth, a great bloke.

Ditto!!!

Not necessarily, he may have just had an arrhythmia which is a problem with heart rhythm which a defib can treat. Fingers crossed.

I jumped to the conclusion he fully arrested.

Well said Gerby ! ...     And when I watched the match on tv the phone lights looked very impressive ...    I'm sure he would have appreciated it.

Among the visitors to his room today was former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson.

The Birch said: "I'm grateful to Nigel for coming down from Sheffield to see me, and I'm so grateful to everyone, players, fans and the general public, who have sent me messages of support - it has been overwhelming and emotional.
