Didn't we get him from a Malaysian team or somewhere obscure?

He wasn't first choice at the time. Everton wouldn't send their first choice striker on loan to Leicester.

Yeah but all he ever did was score goals !!

Ah you're right. I remember thinking it was a real coup though, and so did the rest of the division!

It was a real coup in terms of quality, he was/is a proven quality striker, but we paid a stupid loan fee for him so financially it wasn't a 'coup'.

He scored 11 goals in 20 games for us. Clearly a quality striker. I do remember at the time he'd get stick for being lazy and some people said "all Yakubu does is score goals". :D

It became a FT joke for a while. I actually feel it's creeping back in with Slimani. "He's poor, all he does is score goals".

Wasn't Danny Simpson first choice at QPR when we signed him? They were a Premier League club in August 2014 when we signed him..

If I remember correctly, QPR played 3 at the back so Simpson never played.

Yeah me too, because I was jealous of their "excellent business" and guess I was wrong about that.

Right can we limit the answer to players who started 7 out of the last 10 of their club's games (in the premiership) and weren't signed after relegation!

Callum Davidson?

I'm fairly sure he was starting left back at Blackburn. ****ing terrible distribution from him.

I think they were relegated prior to the summer we signed him, so yes and no.

I don't see the point of signing established premier players.

Some of our best ever players were signed from some lower league French club or Fleetwood Town.

I could very easily be wrong but I think only Andrew Impey of the names mentioned so far was signed by us for a fee from a PL club when we were also a PL club and the player was at the time a regular starter for the selling club.

And breathe...

Sorry OP what's it matter where a player comes from. If a player come from the City league and done a job that's all that counts.

Kante done a job n was not prem. Could we have bought better. At the time I say no.

I would have asked how many players have we bought that done the job from the start. ?

I think you have missed the point entirely.

Steve Howard and Matt Oakley were both first team regulars for Derby in the prem when we signed them.

Gee and ormondroyd, swapped for kitson, tragic swap

Robert Huth until the season we signed him where he fell behind Wollscheid in the pecking order at Stoke

Steffen Fruend played a lot of games for Spurs, not sure where his career was at when we got him

Where was Ben Thatcher playing? Steve Howey?

No my point is its a wider question. Why does it matter where a player comes from. If the club pays for a player they should do the job.

kids are different you buy hoping they will.
