Who's to say he wouldn't have got an England call up if he'd stayed fit? Just feel even lacking match fitness, he'd still be better than King. Yes I do know what you mean. He really was starting to look a top quality player and then he suffered his injury. I'm hoping a loan move to Barnsley or anywhere else for that matter might get him back on the road to where he was heading before the injury. But it will be very difficult for him to get back to the level he was at after being out for more than 18 months.
MC Prussian Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 Wish him well at Barnsley and it'd be a wonderful footballing story if he were to regain his full fitness and even manage to improve and come back a better player. Fairytale of the season.

Maybe was once upon a time but now way of telling now if he still has it till he plays games so it's a sweeping statement you make. Hes been out the game so long who knows how the injury has affected him. If he come back playing at championship level I think he would have done well.
fuchsntf Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 Shame ...We could of used him at CB, even injured he would of done better, than what we are doing at present...
LCFC hub Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 Good luck Matty if this goes ahead. Will do him good to play regularly again and get his career back on track.
foxes21 Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 do one month loans still exist? if so, loan him for a month see how he gets on. if he is back to his old best after the month, i'd start him alongside drinkwater. if he still needs time, extend the loan until the end of the season.
MPH Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 Just glad he is going out on loan and will be getting first team experience and feeling that match day experience again. Where he has gone is irrelevant.
Fox92 Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 He'll never play for us again. Too many central midfielders.

You do realise Barnsley are currently top 10 and four points from the play offs? Thankfully they are having a good season again. Sadly got no money hence all their best players go. If James was 'too good' then why doesn't anybody else want him.
Guest Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 Should have had a game for us this year given the number of games king has played
lgfualol Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 Probably his level after not playing for so long. Hope he does well.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 The bloke's been injured for the best part of two years - how do we still know he's 'too good for a team like Barnsley?' Good move for all parties IF he's half the player he was pre injury.
ScouseFox Posted 24 January 2017 Posted 24 January 2017 would be similar to when Ramsey went forest for 6 weeks or whatever it was after all of his legs fell off. big club sending someone to a poverty team to run around and then we'll have him back and see if he's good enough. as it stands it's doing neither the team or the player any good being here, is it?
HoustonFox Posted 25 January 2017 Posted 25 January 2017 Who will we sign as a Fox & Crop model replacement?!

A lad I went to school with plays centre half for them and he posts various bits and pieces online about how his approach differs from anything he's experienced before. End of the day they're only 13 league places below us and they'd probably give us a good game at the moment.
foxy boxing Posted 25 January 2017 Posted 25 January 2017 he really needs to go out on loan and see what he can do and is capable of, he needs regular first team football to get his match fitness and sharpness up. see what he does on loan and then reassess the situation once he is playing regularly
AjcW Posted 25 January 2017 Posted 25 January 2017 A lot of very good things going on at Barnsley at the minute from the top down... still one of my favourite away days! Hope Villa tearing them apart doesn't ruin their season as they've been excellent.
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 January 2017 Posted 25 January 2017 Too good for Barnsley I think some people need to do some research into anterior knee ligament ruptures. How good he was is irrelevant he could be a completely different player now. He's lucky he has a chance to play again full stop never mind be concerned about the level he starts getting back into at.

So true mate, did my ACL, MCL & smashed my meniscus in 1999!! Had 4 ops on one knee & 3 ops on the other & still popping pills!! Have to see the consultant again on Monday to see if they can do anything else as i can't even kick a ball on the park with my lad!! Even after surgeries it's still problematic. You do see some come back, but he'll never be the same imo.
