Weekend in London (on the cheap)

lollol this is so untrue.

You can do London 'on the cheap'. You'll only feel awkward if you go to a certain place where you know it's going to be upmarket and posh, all of which London is not.

What and how the hell did you spend £3000 in 2 nights?! You clearly went to one or more very high-profile places that not everyone would go to usually.

I guess everyone's perception of "on the cheap" is different. For me, i've booked a hotel for £180 for 2 nights, and theatre tickets in decent seats for £100 each. add the price of the west ham tickets to that, and it should come in at around £360ish. stick underground tickets, meals (the street food in Camden market will do us nicely) and petrol (or train travel) and a weekend in London for around £500 is not too bad!

God knows how he managed to spend £3k in 2 nights though!

You can't really do London on the cheap, you will feel awkward whenever you go anywhere as everything is expensive.

Get a train in, watch a matinee, go for a meal in Soho and get yourself back on the late train.

But if you think you can do it cheap, you won't enjoy it if you see money disappearing from your pocket.

The cheaper hotel rooms are like shoe boxes, and some expensive ones are too.

Have you got money mate? Just that you never seam to mention it.

I definitely don't think there is any such thing as London on the cheap.

Stayed in a hotel with my girlfriend near Paddington for one night which was £130, went to the theatre to see wicked and that was another £130.

Including 2/3 meals out over 2 days that cost another £150+ and then went to London dungeons which set me back 50 quid.

Do not get me wrong it was was an amazing couple of days but realistically something I'd want and afford to do once ever 3 or 4 months. I spent the best part of half a grand in 2 days :sweating: (not that I'd ever let my misses know that I'm complaining lol)

We've got a night in London in December before we get the Eurostar the next morning. We've booked a Premier Inn at King's Cross for about £70, I've got a voucher for 2 for 1 on the London eye, and I've found an Agatha Christie performance on the South Bank for a tenner each. It's in the chambers of County Hall, a courtroom drama, and we're really looking forward to it.

Completely disagree. It is entirely dependent upon your tastes and expectations, your knowledge of the City and what precisely it is you want to do. Last weekend I walked from Crouch End through to Highgate, then across Hampstead Heath and down to Baker Street. Cost? a strawberry cornetto from a shop by Swiss Cottage. Then went South of the river and streamed the match with a few tins.

Personally, I think if you want to go for a night in London, don't look to do it on a budget. Pick your hotel, near to your chosen location, spend the money, take the hit and just enjoy it. All this stay out of the West End and travel in, business....nah...it'll be too much of a faff. Stay near the theatre, walk everywhere and just accept it's expensive.

Any food/pub recommendations for Waterloo, Camden Town or Covent Garden sort of areas? Always like to try new places in The Smoke.

Barafina in Covent Garden, if you like tapas you really won’t regret it.

Just realised this is in a thread for doing london on the cheap, if that’s what you are after you probably will regret it.

For Camden Town, The World's End. Right near the tube station.

Probably the most popular one in that area.

**** sake lol.

Imagine dropping £3k on two nights in London when I'm going to Japan for 16 days for £4k.

Fair play if you're loaded Rob but it still seems like a tremendous misuse of money tbf.

3 grand!! He's either spunked it at a casino or giving it the big "I am"

FFS it's about a quid more expensive for a pint & maybe a tenner dearer for a meal than Leicester in a standard pub or restaurant.

Dishoom is amazing. There's one in Covent Garden as well.

Cantina Laredo near there is quality too.

The Dishoom breakfast is the stuff of legend.

The Brittania hotel in Hampstead will be less than £100 getting it for £50-60 at the mo. Bit dated but clean and 10 minute walk to Chalk Farm tube.

also only 15 minutes walk into camden where the market had lots street food vendors.

Also on camden lock you have the Ice Wharf which is a weatherspoons.

The Hawley Arms which is the pub Amy Whinehouse frequented is good food and superb music.

mentioned earlier but worlds end in Camden is an experience.
