Think we need to look at getting james back into our squad. Underrated in my opinion and better than mendy or king during our time in the prem. Get him back hungry for pre season

I akways thought he was the one premiership quality player we had in our squad when we came up. I hope he makes it back next season as he's better than King. But unless he's going to play then might prefer to move on.

I really hope, and in all likelihood we have, we have moved on and there is no place in our squad for James.  I wish him the best and I hope he does well at Barnsley and gets a good permanent move out of it.

If Amartey becomes a CB for us and Mendy continues to not impress over the next few months, then I can see a way back for James.

He has potential to be on par with Drinkwater and would like to see him back playing here if possible.

See how he finishes the season with Barnsley, and like Lawrence, would be stupid to sell either until the new manager has had a good look at them in pre-season.

Just hope he is fully over his injuries and back to his best and ready to prove he is a decent Premier League midfielder.

I''m so please for him. I really hate it when a talented player suffers a long term injury like he has. It's such a short career at the top that to lose a few years out makes it extremely difficult to come back.  He's obviously doing well at Barnsley and I really hope he makes it back.

Barnsley, I believe...

As good a player as he is, I don't think he'd get into our team at present so best leave him where he is and match fit ready for next season as I dares say they'll be quite the clear out.

Anyone remember the last time he scored a goal?

Always though this was his biggest weakness even in the Championship.

would love him to come in next season although he is certainly behind Drinky and Ndidi

The last time he played for us he was keeping Drinkwater out, fair and square, in the Premier League. Can't see how anyone can say we should ship him out. Shakespeare will know how to utilize him best next season. He deserves the opportunity to fight for a place if that's what he wants. But if he wants to goto Barnsley permanently, fair enough.

IF he has his full fitness back then he is more than good enough to play in the premier league and in the role he plays he could get into the England squad. Clearly that would take time as there is a difference between PL fitness and championship fitness as our game at derby illustrated.

He was a machine in our promotion season and I'm convinced hodgson was about to pick him for an England squad when he got injured.

It was clear from his shape in December that he had struggled to get back to where he was - clearly the club will be able to assess him now he has played for a few months. He will be a big asset next season if he can manage to get back to his best.

Would be very disappointed now if we were to let him go in the summer. A fully fit Matty James walks into our 18 every weekend no doubt.

Bin Mendy off, develop Amartey as a centre back and it's happy days.

For a start he'd be straight in ahead of Kingy so that's a place on the bench. Then he's in as soon as either Drinky or Ndidi get an injury. It's great he's getting game time at Barnsley but he could've got more here if Claudio had given him a chance.
