Leicester City have said social media reports that Claudio Ranieri has given £1.5m of a £3m pay off to the club's charity are not true.

The club says that rumours that the 65-year-old Italian - who was sacked last week as manager at the King Power Stadium - has given the money to the Foxes Foundation are not correct.

Bookmaker Coral had tweeted: "Claudio Ranieri has reportedly paid £1.5M of his £3M pay-off to the Foxes Foundation charity. What. A. Guy."

Meanwhile BigSport posted: "Claudio Ranieri has reportedly donated £1.5m of his £3m pay-off to the Foxes Foundation Charity! What a gentleman."

Fans from across football had reacted with amazement to the rumours - which surfaced on social media on Sunday and have refused to go away since.

But, asked about the donation, a spokesman at Leicester City said there was no truth in the rumours.

"It is not a credible source and there is nothing in it," he added.

The LCFC Foxes Foundation, which was launched five years ago and has collected in more than £1 million, helps out local charities. It launched its Second Million campaign last year.

The club launched its One in a Million campaign during the 2011/12 season with the aim of raising £150,000 - which took its total fund-raising to over £1 million. You can learn more about the charity and its work here.

What's the point in people making this sort of thing up?

Makes them and the Foundation feel like a fool.

Quite tempted to donate some £ to that charity now. Bet they feel awkward after this.

The amount of fake news being generated now for retweets and Facebook shares is deeply shocking.

really disappointed in @Wymeswold fox for bringing us this news. Totally out of order when it wasn't even true.

If I didn't understand sarcasm on an online forum, I would've took this another way.

Why do you feel the need to bring Benny into it?

And that my friend is what people do when they know they are wrong but don't want to admit it, they make stuff up to strengthen there flawed argument which in this case is that Claudio is a saint and Leicester are the scum of the earth for sacking him. Of course, both of which are completely and utterly inaccurate.
