GeorgeTheFox Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Think sky had to turn up the crowd for the game, hence why every word said could be heard King and Drinky are fine by themselves, but never together. Chilwell needs to work on his positioning, but looks composed on the ball. Benalouane as much as I like him got torn apart in the air. Amartey improved as the game went on but I still think his best position would probably be centre back... would love to see him tried there at some point, maybe when safety is confirmed. Imagine how bad Huth or Morgan would be at right back and give the lad a break. Ulloa unlucky not to score which I would have loved. Listening to Martin Tyler going on about that Davies lad was insufferable! Entertaining game that I think we had already written off due to shitty fixtures by the league, we dust ourselves off and get ready for a once in a lifetime game against Atletico. Come on lads!

Think we would have easily taken points with our strongest lineup
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Shows to me how our squad just isn't good enough. If we can't (or wont) play our 'first team' then we struggle. Chilwell, Amartey, King..none of them good enough at this level. And the CB pairing of Benny and Huth was terrible today. Not as bad as under Claudio this season..but not far off.
Hammo Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Happy we've stayed in 11th and that presumably we didn't pick up any injuries. Unhappy that our defending at corners was so wretched and that Drinkwater has lost his early-season strength and drive. Our central midfield was a joke in the first half. As were those entitled Everton fans. I expect us to be outclassed on Wednesday but can't help but feel excited. Bring it on!
The Guvnor Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Ulloa had a 15 min cameo unlucky not to score a brace, how is Slim an upgrade on Ulloa as Ulloa can match if not better all of Slims attributes? I would be piss*d off if I were Leonardo.
Redouane Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 It worries me how poor Benny and huth were. How will they stop Griezman who gets past Ramos and Pepe like its no biggie ???

UniFox21 Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Why is Barkley so raved about? genuinely confused, he didnt tear us apart, and is as inconsistent as hell
Foxhateram Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 We have no chance against madrid on Wednesday and a win today would have pretty much secured safety. A bit miffed to be honest. Momentum is everything for this team and you just chucked it away. I woukd have preffered to play the A team and keep the momentum for the Madrid game. More proof that the B team Ranieri assembled is no where near quality enough for this league.

jayfox26 Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Wasn't a great performance but we've got bigger fish to fry. Would take a defeat today and have a fully fit squad for wed than win today and lose 1 or 2 key players for wed. Defending was poor and midfield was over run with their 3 in midfield. We move on to Madrid. The chorus of "you'll never walk alone" was my personal highlight. Really got the backs up of the Everton fans. Possibly the worst fans in the prem by the way. No atmosphere again, just like the cup game back in Jan. Full credit to all the City fans at the game today, great atmosphere

Ulloa had more of an impact than Mahrez and Musa though. he wants out and so no point starting him over Slimani who will be here next season and needs game time and is a better goal scorer, Ulloa has always been a great impact striker, even from last season but he was always found out when he started and wasn't composed enough in front of goal. I do wish Slimani was able to win flick ons as well as Ulloa
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Not a surprising result, given the circumstances.
Aus Fox Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Said it in the match thread, but will add here too. Putting that result into context; Man City, Southampton, Hull, WBA and Bournemouth have all conceded 3+ goals at Goodison this year, without resting half their team. A couple of individual errors from us today and a couple of stand out performance from Everton players, I think it showed we are not a million miles from where we want to be. Bring on Athletico Madrid!!

Apart from achieving a narrower margin of defeat maybe. Those who didn't want a full reserve team because it would affect momentum.. Now we've lost momentum AND knackered out half our first team. Thank fvck there were no injuries. We've always come back from a loss eager to prove ourselves though. (I'm excluding Ranieri and Pearson's bad form of course... Our premier league winning humiliations only strengthen us)

I've been very critical of Slimani, now what I will say is Tuesday and today is the best i've seen from him, took his header well on Tuesday and took his goal well today (The cynic in me expected it to go anywhere but on target). However ever though i've just said Tuesday and today was the best i've seen from him, it's still not good enough, Ulloa was better, more impressive and offered more in those 15 minutes than i've seen from all of Slimani's minutes put together. Slimani is improving but not quick enough for my liking, I really do think we should cut our losses with him in the summer!

With N'didi back in, we are a different side. Shakey also said that there were players carrying knocks so made sense for some changes. Just a shame Benny had a mare and King was back to his invisible best! We can get a decent result against Atletico! Have faith
foxfanazer Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Can't really complain. Think we'd have beaten them with Ndidi, Fuchs and Simpson starting but understandable why we didn't play them. Can't wait for Wednesday!

Or the previous performance affected us against Brugge, Porto or Copenhagen? We are safe, there is no way all three of Swansea, Hull and Palace an catch us.
